‘Pay us what you owe us': WNBA All-Stars make statement with warmup shirts
The shirts come after the players and the league failed to reach a new collective bargaining agreement at an in-person meeting Thursday. The league's players opted out of their last CBA in October, and are looking for a better revenue-sharing model, increased salaries, improved benefits and a softer salary cap.
'I'm just so inspired by the amount of players that showed up, the engagement that was there,' WNBPA president Nneka Ogwumike said. 'That's really what it's all about. Because the more that happens, the more that we're going to be able to get things done. I think today we're going to be able to use this conversation to start rolling the ball on things.'
After the failed negotiations, many players said there was a large discrepancy between what they wanted and what the league was offering. If a new CBA is not reached by October some players, including All-Stars Napheesa Collier and Angel Reese, have mentioned the potential of a walkout.

July 27 - Wyatt Langford drove in three runs with a first-inning double and Josh Smith and Josh Jung added two RBI each to back a solid start by rookie Jack Leiter as the soaring Texas Rangers waylaid the Atlanta Braves 8-1 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game interleague series in Arlington, Texas. The Rangers won their sixth straight game, earned their second consecutive series sweep and captured their fourth series in a row. Texas is 8-1 since the All-Star Break and pulled to within four games of Houston in the American League West standings while collecting 10 hits, three by Smith. Atlanta, mired in fourth place in the National League East, dropped its fifth straight game and seventh of nine contests after the break. The Braves managed just four hits on Sunday against three Texas pitchers and are season-worst 16 games under .500. Leiter was outstanding for the Rangers, allowing a run on two hits and three walks over six innings. He tied a season high with seven strikeouts and won his career-high third straight start. Brad Elder (4-7) was ineffective from the start for the Braves, allowing eight runs on six hits, four walks and a hit batter over 2 2/3 innings while pitching about 50 miles southeast of his hometown of Decatur, Texas. The Rangers set the pace early, taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out, three-run double by Langford that drove in Smith, Marcus Semien and Adolis Garcia, all of whom reached without a hit. Atlanta cut into its deficit in the second as Sean Murphy's bloop, ground-rule double scored Drake Baldwin, who had walked. But the Rangers swung back in the bottom of the frame, adding a pair of runs on Smith's two-run home run over the right field fence that scored Jonah Heim and made it 5-1. In the third, Texas loaded the bases off Elder with a single, a walk and a hit batsman before Josh Jung plated Garcia and Langford with a single. Heim then drove in Carter with a single that ended the Atlanta starter's stint. That was more than enough for the Rangers and way too much of a hole from which Atlanta to climb. --Field Level Media

Cubs hold on to lead for crosstown series win over White Sox
July 27 - Pete Crow-Armstrong went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Ben Brown pitched five strong innings to lift the visiting Chicago Cubs to a 5-4 victory against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. An early spurt staked the Cubs to a 2-1 lead before they held on to take two of three in the crosstown series. Daniel Palencia worked around a hit-by-pitch with two outs in the ninth inning to earn his 14th save. White Sox left fielder Andrew Benintendi reached reliever Ryan Brasier for a three-run home run in the eighth inning, his second homer of the game, to bring the White Sox within the final margin. Ian Happ scored the deciding run in the top half when White Sox third baseman Colson Montgomery was called for obstruction in a rundown between home and third. It was one of three White Sox errors in the game. The Cubs scored a pair of first-inning runs against opener Grant Taylor, who struck out Michael Busch to begin the game before encountering trouble. Crow-Armstrong punctuated the rally with a two-run double that followed a double and walk. Benintendi cut the deficit in half with a solo home run against Brown in the bottom of the inning. Brown (5-7) regrouped from a rough relief outing Tuesday, his first major league appearance since June 23. He spaced one run and three hits in five innings with zero walks and four strikeouts. Right-hander Sean Burke kept the White Sox afloat with 4 2/3 innings of two-run, five hit relief. CJ Abrams helps Nationals cruise past Twins
July 27 - CJ Abrams went 2-for-3 with a homer, and the Washington Nationals pulled away for a 7-2 win over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis. Alex Call drove in two runs for Washington, which completed back-to-back wins to secure a series victory. Daylen Lile tripled and drove in a run.
