Texas A&M HC Mike Elko is 'blessed' to have four talented running backs
During Thursday's SEC media days appearance, head coach Mike Elko was asked about his 2025 running back room, first praising Le'Veon Moss's 2024 performance before his injury, where he led the SEC in rushing with 765 yards, ten touchdowns, and 6.3 yards per carry. Moss's injury significantly altered A&M's offense, placing additional pressure on starting quarterback Marcel Reed to produce through the air, which was challenging given the team's limited reliable receiving options.
It's also important to note that sophomore RB Reuben Owens was also lost for the season, and despite his brief return against Texas and USC in the Las Vegas Bowl, the former five-star was not himself after tearing his ACL during fall practice. How OC Collin Klein will use Owens, who could become a hybrid receiver in certain packages, will determine just how successful the Aggie rushing attack will be.

However, Elko also noted EJ Smith is healthy and back to form, which is good news for those who remember his elite play and versatility during the bulk of his career at Stanford.

"I expect Dogs fans to be bigger and louder than our sobbing fans," Craine predicted. "Their fans are the most passionate and noisy in the game and will try to drown the Tigers fans out. But we won't back down and they won't back down. We'll both be doing what we can to give our side an edge. It's all set up for a really feisty afternoon with plenty at stake for both teams." Canterbury has kept Galvin out of the firing line this week, refusing to offer him up to media outlets for fear of heightening tensions. It's been left to teammates to speculate on how the rookie half will handle playing against the club he rejected two months ago. Halves partner Matt Burton said: "He'll just go to another level and get better from that (scrutiny). That won't faze him at all. "There's going to be a lot of talk, but whatever's in these four walls, we just stick together and we don't worry about that. It's like he's a 26-year-old in a 20-year-old's body. He's got that maturity about him."

Head coach Jonathan Smith provides an injury update on the Spartans on the first day of fall camp In the words of Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith, the Spartans are starting fall preseason camp in a "solid" spot on the injury front. Michigan State opened up fall preseason camp on Tuesday, with the Spartans holding their first practice of the 2025 season. As part of fall camp opening, media was able to attend a brief portion of practice and have availability to ask questions to a number of players and Smith. One of the typically asked questions during this time of year is the injury status of the team, which Smith was able to provide a positive response. "I'd say solid," Smith said when asked about the overall team health of the Spartans. "Knock on wood, but we haven't came across the season-ending injury (or anything) to that extent. We definitely are being, I'll call it, smart with some guys in camp and we will ease them into it. But currently, we are feeling pretty solid." Now, preseason camp has just started so, of course, we are only dipping our toes into the injury front at this time. But, this is certainly reassuring knowing there aren't any offseason injuries that Smith and the Spartans were ready to announce on opening day of fall camp. This is a notable development as we get going on the 2025 season. Throughout fall camp, injuries will be something to monitor so stick with Spartans Wire for the latest updates. Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith makes a major award watch list
Rejoice, college football fans! It's preseason watch list time, and one of the biggest ones announced its preseason watch list on Monday, and there is indeed an Ohio State football player on it. The Maxwell Award has been handed out annually since 1937 and goes to the players judged to be the best in college football. The award announced 80 names, and OSU wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was included (to nobody's surprise). Four Ohio State players have taken home the award that is handed out by the Maxwell Football Club since its inception. Howard "Hopalong" Cassidy won it in 1955, fullback Bob Ferguson took it home in 1961, Heisman winner Archie Griffin won in 1975, and Eddie George was the last to hold the Maxwell in 1995. Obviously, being on the preseason watch list means little because names can be added and culled down as the season goes on, but you have to be on the list at some point to win it, so Smith has that going for him. The superstar wide receiver hauled in 76 receptions for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns last season and had some of his biggest moments during the College Football Playoff national championship run. He should be poised to have another phenomenal year this fall as well as appointment television.
