The 25-year-old captivated the panel of judges with her grace and intellect, earning her the title along with a cash prize, jewellery and various exclusive packages. With this victory, the Iban lass will go on to represent Malaysia at the Miss Grand International (MGI) pageant, which is expected to be held in Bangkok in October. The first runner-up was Dr Nisha Thayananthan from Negeri Sembilan, while third place went to Rochil Sagarino from Sabah. Viviana, fondly known as Vivi, is the first Iban woman to win the Miss Grand Malaysia crown. "This achievement is not just a personal victory on a beauty pageant stage, but a chance to celebrate diversity and prove that the uniqueness of Iban culture also deserves a place on the global stage. "I hope this success inspires young people from all backgrounds to believe in themselves and keep striving,' said the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak student. Viviana added that this win also comes with a great responsibility, especially in representing Malaysia at the MGI stage and continuing the legacy of past Malaysian representatives who ranked among the world's best. "From now on, I want to focus on working with experienced individuals so I can elevate Malaysia's name even further. Winning (on the global stage) is not impossible with consistent training, proper guidance and teamwork,' she said. Meanwhile, MGM 2025 national director Melisha Lin said Viviana's win was the result of her hard work and strengths in all five core areas assessed at the international level, namely "beauty, body, brain, behaviour, and business'. She said the organisation hopes that Viviana will be placed among the Top 20 at this year's Miss Grand International, adding that Malaysia secured sixth place (fifth runner-up) in the previous edition. - BERNAMA More Like This

Park Bo-gum, Blackpink's Jennie named South Korea's tourism ambassadors for 2025

Actor Park Bo-gum (left) was named the honorary ambassador for 2025 Korea Tourism, while singer Jennie was tapped as the honorary ambassador to promote tourism in Seoul. Photos: Handout South Korean actor Park Bo-gum has been officially named the honorary ambassador for 2025 Korea Tourism at a ceremony in Seoul on July 29. Park, 32, who recently starred in the hit K-drama When Life Gives You Tangerines (2025), appears in three separate tourism videos, including a music video for On My Way . Performed by the actor himself, the original song is the result of a collaboration between the Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO), South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the K-pop industry. Park said at the event that one of his favourite places is the area surrounding Gwanghwamun and Gyeongbokgung. 'But I hope you'll also explore regions outside of Seoul. I'd especially recommend Busan, where I recently filmed (TV series) Good Boy ,' he added. He also recommended Seoul's public bike-sharing service, Seoul Bike, officially known as Ddareungi. 'I love riding a Ddareungi along the Han River,' the star said. 'If you haven't tried it yet, I'd really like to introduce you to it.' First launched in 2015, South Korea's tourism promotional videos, featuring celebrities such as boy band BTS, actor Lee Jung-jae and girl group NewJeans, have drawn increasing global attention, particularly following the breakout success of the Feel The Rhythm Of Korea series in 2020. It has since become a cultural phenomenon, with its videos collectively amassing more than 240 million views across multiple platforms. Meanwhile, Jennie of K-pop girl group Blackpink will lend her star power to Seoul, the Seoul Tourism Organisation announced on July 29. The South Korean singer was tapped as the honorary ambassador to promote tourism in the capital city in 2025, and a campaign video featuring the 29-year-old will be unveiled on July 31. Under the catchphrase 'Absolutely in Seoul', the first promotional video – Daltokki – will follow Jennie as she explores spots in Seoul, from Gyeongbokgung to Seongsu-dong. The second video will incorporate her song Seoul City (2025), from her first solo full-length album Ruby , released in March. In 2024, South Korea welcomed approximately 16.37 million overseas visitors, a 48.4% increase from the previous year and reaching 94% of the pre‑Covid‑19 peak of around 17.5 million in 2019, according to the KTO. The country aims to attract 18.5 million overseas visitors in 2025. – The Korea Herald/Asia News Network

Sean Combs' lawyers offer US$50m bail to move him to house arrest

Published on: Wednesday, July 30, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jul 30, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: Filepic by Reuters WASHINGTON: Lawyers for rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs ( pic ) filed a motion seeking his release from jail ahead of his sentencing in October, offering a US$50 million bail package that would place him under house arrest in Miami, reported German Press Agency (dpa). The attorneys argued that Combs poses neither a flight risk nor a danger to the public. Under the proposal, submitted on Tuesday, the 55-year-old would remain confined to his Miami residence and leave only for court appearances. Previous release requests have been denied by the presiding judge. Combs was arrested in New York in September 2024 on multiple sexual offence charges. In a high-profile trial earlier this month, a jury found him partially guilty, convicting him only on charges related to prostitution - the least severe among the five counts he faced. He now faces up to 20 years in prison. A full conviction could have led to a life sentence. Sentencing is scheduled for October 3. Combs remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in New York. Prosecutors accused Combs of abusing, coercing, and threatening multiple women over several years to fulfil his sexual demands. During the trial, which drew international attention, several witnesses testified about enduring years of sexual and physical abuse. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
