Preacher Under Probe Lost Credentials In 2022
MAIS chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin said the individual was previously detained by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department in September 2024 for preaching without valid credentials.
'It is an offence under Section 119 of the Administration of the Religion of Islam (State of Selangor) Enactment 2003, and the case is still being heard at the Syariah Subordinate Court.
'A surau administrator is also under investigation in the same case for allegedly facilitating the unauthorised lecture,' he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the police were investigating an independent preacher for allegedly disseminating sex videos involving his wives and several other women.
Salehuddin said that since 2022, MAIS had revoked the accreditation of 35 individuals for breaching set conditions, including delivering teachings that deviated from the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah creed, committing criminal offences and holding political positions.
'Several others have had their teaching credentials suspended pending investigations in accordance with relevant laws,' he added.
He emphasised that all policies and decisions by the religious authorities are made with due diligence and have received the consent of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah as the Head of Islam in the state.
'These measures are intended to protect the interests of the Muslim community in Selangor,' he said.

Six men jailed five years for abducting Palestinian in KL
KUALA LUMPUR: Six men have been sentenced to five years in prison for abducting and wrongfully confining a Palestinian man three years ago. Policeman pleads not guilty to aiding murder suspect's escape
KUALA LUMPUR: A police officer with the rank of has corporal pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here to a charge of assisting a murder suspect to escape. Mohd Syhrulazlan Mohd Safri, 35, was charged with negligently and intentionally assisting Mohd Hafeez Ali, 45, who was involved in an offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code to escape arrest at a playground near a condominium in Gombak at 12.15am on June 29. The charge, read out before Magistrate Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim, is under Section 221 (a) of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail sentence of seven years or a fine, if convicted. The court allowed the accused bail of RM7,000 with one surety with the additional condition that he must report to the nearest police station once a month and set Sept 10 for mention. In the same court, Mohd Hafeez was charged with murdering Muhammad Umar Abdul Jalil, 38, at a premises near the same condominium at 11.45pm, June 28, under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries a death sentence or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years and 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted. No plea was recorded from the accused for the murder case as it comes under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Meanwhile, Noor Azzly Hisham Sabtu, 47, was charged with throwing away the knife used to stab the victim with the intention of protecting Mohd Hafeez from legal action and punishment at a premises near the same condominium at 11.45pm on June 28.
