BREAKING: SA star snubs overseas clubs for Kaizer Chiefs deal!
Chiefs have reportedly already added four new players to their pre-season plans, with many more set to follow.
Amakhosi have struggled in front of goal for about three to four seasons now with no solution in site. That has since seen coach Nasreddine Nabi become vocal throughout last season about a lack of striking options. Subsequently there have been quite a few attackers linked with Chiefs going into the next season. This as a sign of what they're trying to fix in the final third. Amakhosi, however, have seen the likes of Fiston Mayele, Etiosa Ighodaro, Robert Polievka mentioned as strikers. In the wingers department Oswin Appollis, Elias Mokwana, Mihlali Mayambela and Keletso Makgalwa have been touted.
Now with only Ighodaro reportedly having joined from the above list, the club seem to be chasing alternatives. According to FARPost , one of those alternatives is overseas-based South African winger Ethan Chislett. The publication reveals that he has penned a two-year deal with Chiefs after becoming a free agent!
'UK-based midfielder Ethan Chislett has opted to join Kaizer Chiefs, turning down offers from overseas clubs, FARPost has been informed. Following his departure from Port Vale, he reportedly attracted the interest of Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell and EFL League One team Wigan. However, this publication can confirm that the Durban-born playmaker has opted to sign with Chiefs. Chislett has reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with the 2025 Nedbank Cup champions, Chiefs, with an option for extension. In a recent interview, the talented midfielder explained that a move back to South Africa aligns with his professional ambitions and personal goals.' wrote the publication.
Last season with Port Vale, Chislett scored four goals and laid on three assists in 25 matches. Chiefs fans, are you happy the 26-year-old snubbed clubs abroad to become a Glamour Boy? Harris serves big to book Wimbledon second-round clash with Rublev
South African tennis ace Lloyd Harris had to rely heavily on his big serve as he booked his place in the second round at Wimbledon with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 victory over Belgium's Zizou Bergs in Monday's first round. The former world No 31, who is on the comeback trail after major injury setbacks, will renew his rivalry with Russia's Andrey Rublev in the second round of the prestigious grass-court Grand Slam on Wednesday. The two players last met in the first round of the French Open at Roland Garros in Paris last month, where Rublev beat Harris 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. On Monday, Wimbledon No 14 seed Rublev booked his place in the second round with a 6-0, 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (9-11), 7-6 (8-6) win over Serbia's Laslo Djere. Harris and Rublev have met three times on the ATP Tour. Rublev has won all three matches, dropping only one set in the process. Their only previous meeting on Wimbledon grass resulted in a straight-sets victory for the Russian in 2021. That was the same year the tall South African reached the US Open semi-final, before his career was derailed by serious wrist and back injuries that required surgery. He only returned to action earlier this year with mixed results. However, Capetonian Harris will feel he has a chance to exact revenge for the defeat at Roland Garros, should his main weapon — his serve — fire as it did in the first round on the Wimbledon grass against the 50th seed. He has shown the ability to step up on the biggest stages, and will feel he is building momentum after reaching the main draw at back-to-back Grand Slams. The fact that he was able to grind out a win in searing conditions at the All England Club on Monday will also ease fitness concerns. Harris also reached the second round at Wimbledon last year, where he pushed rising US star Ben Shelton before losing in five sets. He is the only South African player in the main draw at Wimbledon. Four-time wheelchair tennis Grand Slam doubles winner Kgothatso Montjane and quads tennis player Donald Ramphadi will fly the South African flag in the Wimbledon wheelchair tennis tournament later this month.

Chiefs unveil new signings-but big guns still missing
KAIZER Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr. and football manager Bobby Motuang unveil Durban-born attacking midfielder Ethan Chislett. | Image: Kaizer Chiefs are all set to take on their European pre-season tour, with the Netherlands confirmed as their trusted destination—a trip they hope will spark the beginning of a turnaround after two difficult seasons and a tough past decade. While neighbors Orlando Pirates continue to enjoy their limited success, the footballing rivalry between the two Soweto giants has become unbalanced. Pirates have followed up an impressive showing last season with a couple of top-class signings, showing clear ambition. Chiefs, on the other hand, continue to tread carefully, as usual—avoiding panic, even though their recent results suggest that a little urgency may be long overdue. On Tuesday the Glamour Boys unveiled former AFC Wimbledon and Port Vale midfielder Ethan Chislett, Potugese striker Flavio Silva and left back Nkanyiso Shinga ahead of their tour. Amakhosi have uncharacteristically missed out on a top-eight finish in each of the last two seasons, making them fully guilty of failing to add intensity to the fierce battle that Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates brought last season. As one of South Africa's "Big Three", they have fallen behind the pace. Both Soweto clubs have allowed the Pretoria powerhouse to dominate unchallenged, with Sundowns having claimed the league title for the past eight consecutive seasons. It's hard to see how they'll be stopped—especially as Pirates seem to be building something solid with youth and quality new recruits. As for the Glamour Boys, it's not quite clear where they are headed but the hope will be that the new signings will bring a fresh new energy into the squad. But with that said, It has become increasingly evident that to compete with the best, they will need a lot more quality on the pitch, and here we will outline three other top players Amakhosi should go all out to sign to add to their new signings. Image: Supplied The former Orlando Pirates playmaker was deemed surplus to requirements by Sundowns, but fortunately for him, former boss Rhulani Mokwena still saw value in him and arranged a loan move to Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco. His quality is undeniable, and it didn't take him long to recapture some of his best form. Lorch has become a key figure for the North African giants and was one of their standout performers during the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup. This could be the ideal time for Chiefs to secure his services. He would bring not just technical ability, but also a big personality—something Amakhosi have sorely lacked in recent seasons. Peter Shalulile MAMELODI Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile. | BackpagePix Image: BACKPAGEPIX The Sundowns striker has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Miguel Cardoso and Iqraam Rayners. With his reputation as a deadly finisher, Shalulile would be a game-changer for a Chiefs side that scored only 25 goals in 28 matches last season. He has been South Africa's top striker over the last decade. While age may not be on his side, his numbers speak for themselves. He's never been one to sit on the bench, and his hunger for goals could breathe new energy into a Chiefs attack that has looked lifeless for far too long. Willemse relishes Loftus return as Springbok comeback nears
Springboks fullback Damian Willemse is back in the starting XV after a prolonged period on the sidelines due to injury and suspension. Photo: Timothy Barnard Independent Media Image: Timothy Barnard Independent Media Damian Willemse admits he is nervous ahead of his first match for the Springboks since the 2023 World Cup final, but as he returns to Loftus Versfeld, he carries the comforting memory of arguably his finest hour in a Bok jersey — at the same venue. It was in 2022, and a rusty South African side were on the verge of being upset by Wales. But when Willemse moved to flyhalf for Elton Jantjies in the second half, the game turned. With Handré Pollard-like composure, Willemse slotted the match-winning penalty. The Boks edged it 32-29. "That is a good memory," Willemse smiled. "It was a scary day for us at Loftus. We did well to come back in the second half." Video Player is loading. A recent suspension in the United Rugby Championship, shortly after recovering from a hand injury, added to his frustration. "I am very happy to be healthy and back in the Bok squad," Willemse told a press conference. "It has been a difficult two years — injuries and then, lately, the suspension. "I'm pleased to have another shot. I'm excited but a bit nervous. I have not played since the World Cup final. I need to get into the game and do my primary job at fullback. "I'm nervous, but the guys in the team and the coaching staff give me security," he added. "As soon as we sing the national anthem, I'll start feeling at home. I'll get my first touch and get into it. "You are playing for the national team, and that brings added pressure, but that's part of it, and you look forward to the challenge."
