AL Powerhouse Mentioned As Landing Spot For Red Sox $120 Million Star
Since the Boston Red Sox opted to trade Rafael Devers, there have been a lot of rumors swirling around the potential that they could completely sell at the trade deadline.
This could include a blockbuster deal to send free agency acquisition Alex Bregman to another powerhouse ahead of the trade deadline.
Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer recently mentioned the Detroit Tigers as a potential landing spot for Bregman this season. The Tigers reportedly pursued Bregman in free agency, but came up short.

Maddie Malhotra/Boston"Though the Tigers have risen to the top of the American League anyway, third base is one of several relative weaknesses in their everyday lineup. It has produced a .626 OPS and six homers," Rymer wrote. "Of course, adding more offense would be but one reason for the Tigers to circle back around on Bregman. The 2024 Gold Glover would also help their infield defense, which has been slightly below average for Outs Above Average.
"In reuniting with former Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch, Bregman could also further heighten the Tigers' credibility as a winner. Not that they need it at this point, but sometimes too much of a good thing is for the best."
Trading Bregman doesn't seem like the best idea for the Red Sox this season, but if the Tigers are willing to part ways with a few top prospects, Boston would have to consider a deal.
As far as a fit goes, the Tigers are one of the better Bregman landing spots in baseball. He would fit their team and their lineup very well. With Detroit playing so well this year, the front office is likely willing to take a shot on a huge trade like this. Again, the prospect return would need to be massive to move the needle for Boston.

Nick Kurtz Hits 4 Home Runs: Athletics' Rookie's Historic Night By The Numbers
Not 1. Not 2. Not 3. But, yes, FOUR freaking home runs were hit by Athletics rookie first baseman Nick Kurtz in the team's 15-3 win on the road over the American League-West rival Houston Astros on Friday night. Furthermore, Kurtz, who was the Athletics' designated hitter on Friday night, finished the game 6-for-6. Here's Kurtz's historic night by the numbers. 1A: Kurtz became the first rookie in MLB history to hit four home runs in a single game. 1B: As a result of his Friday night offensive barrage, Kurtz now leads the AL in, well, everything offensively in the month of July: home runs (11), RBIs (27), batting average (.425), on-base percentage (.494), slugging percentage (1.082), OPS (1.576), runs (22), doubles (13) and extra-base hits (25). 2A: Kurtz is just the second player since 1900 to total both four home runs and six hits in a single game, Shawn Green (2002) being the other. 2B: Kurtz is just the second player in Athletics history to total at least three home runs and five hits in a single game, Jimmie Foxx (1932) being the other. 2C: Two of Kurtz's four home runs came in the eighth inning or later. 2D: Two of his four home runs were on pitches outside the strike zone. 3: Of his four home runs, three were sent to the opposite field. 5: Of his six hits, five were extra-base hits: four home runs and one double. 6: In what was maybe the most overlooked six-hit performance in MLB history — that's what four long balls does to one's attention span — Kurtz became the 119th player to accomplish the feat. 8A: Kurtz became just the eighth MLB player in the 21st century to hit four home runs in a single game. 8B: It's the eighth time that an Athletics player has logged six hits in a single game. 8C: Kurtz drove in eight runs. 9: It's the ninth time that a player has scored six runs in a single game and the first time in Athletics history. 19: The number of total bases that Kurtz accumulated, which ties an MLB record since 2000. 20: Kurtz became the 20th player in MLB history to hit four home runs in a single game. 64: Kurtz entered Friday with a .622 slugging percentage and left the night with a .686 slugging percentage, an .064-jump. 2025 MLB betting: Nick Kurtz now a massive favorite to win AL Rookie of the Year
Coming off of a historic game on Friday night in which he became the first Major League Baseball rookie to hit four home runs, the general public has been introduced to Athletics rookie first baseman Nick Kurtz. This is coming off a week where the 22-year-old Kurtz was named the AL Player of the Week. The betting market has taken notice as well. Kurtz opened up far down the odds board to win American League Rookie of the Year at BetMGM with 80-1 odds. New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez opened as the favorite at +600. It wasn't all smooth sailing for Kurtz, as Yahoo's Jordan Shusterman detailed in this article, as he went through and 0-for-21 skid in May before breaking out and becoming the best hitter in baseball in July. On June 14, Kurtz was down to 14-1 odds (tied for the second-best odds), but still a massive underdog to his Athletics teammate Jacob Wilson, who was -1000 to win the AL ROY. That equates to roughly a 90.9% chance to win the award. Even five days ago on July 21, Wilson was the +100 favorite at BetMGM and Kurtz was second at +160. Wilson had second-most wagers (11%, behind the Royals' Jac Caglionone) and by far the most money of any player at 33%. Wilson also represented the sportsbook's biggest liability on the award. But after Friday night's offensive explosion, Kurtz became the odds-on favorite for the first time all season and now has -2000 odds to win, an implied probability of 95% to win the award. It's an astonishing baseball — and betting — story, and one we'll be sure to follow throughout the rest of the season.

LSU baseball star Daniel Dickinson officially decides to go pro, signs with Brewers
Former LSU baseball second baseman Daniel Dickinson officially inked a deal with the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday. Dickinson was selected in the sixth round, the No. 185th overall pick, in this year's MLB Draft. According to Bryan Lazare, Dickinson's deal is $325,00, which puts him $20,000 below slot value. There wasn't much doubt about Dickinson's plans and a return to LSU was always unlikely, but this makes it official. Dickinson spent one year with the Tigers after beginning his career at Utah Valley State. Dickinson posted an OPS over 1.000 in both of his seasons at Utah Valley, which made him sought-after when he entered the transfer portal ahead of the 2025 season. Dickinson was a key cog in the LSU lineup as the Tigers won the College World Series. Dickinson hit .315 with 12 home runs and 14 doubles. He nearly walked as much as he struck out with a 40/42 ratio. Dickinson finished his college career with a .351 batting average and 1.051 OPS. Here's what the scouting report had to say about Dickinson ahead of the draft: "Dickinson excels at making contact with a simple right-handed swing and outstanding hand-eye coordination. He controls the strike zone well, uses the entire field and has no obvious weaknesses at the plate. There are questions about how much impact he'll make with wood bats, however, because he has average raw power at best (mostly to his pull side) and slashed .182/.311/.222 between Team USA and the Cape Cod League last summer."
