Scientists found that this fault is gradually accumulating pressure. In the last 26 lakh years, its two sides have slipped 1,000 meters and in the last 1.36 lakh years, 75 meters. It moves a little every year. Now, there is so much pressure that an earthquake of 7.5 magnitude can occur. This earthquake can occur at any time, perhaps in our lifetime itself. This is an old weak spot, which accumulates the pressure of the earth and can burst suddenly, Theron Finlay, a scientist. How was this pressure detected?
Scientists used satellite and LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), which shows the ground by ignoring the forest. They saw high places on the ground, which are marks of old earthquakes. The marks on the ice showed that it had been shaped 12,000 years, 1.32 lakh years and 26 lakh years ago. Now, 6 meters of pressure has accumulated, which is enough for an earthquake. When will the earthquake strike?
No one can tell when it will occur. It may take many years, or it may happen suddenly. Scientists will have to find old earthquakes by digging pits in the fault. Finlay says that we do not even know whether 6 meters of pressure is too much or if more is yet to be accumulated.
If an earthquake occurs, it can damage small villages. There is also a danger of landslides in mines and hilly areas.

Indias Combat Readiness Enhanced: DRDO Successfully Tests UAV-Launched Precision-Guided Missile ULPGM-V3
India on Friday conducted successful flight trials of the UAV-Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 at the National Open Area Range (NOAR) in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh. This reflects the nation's focus on unmanned precision strike capabilities, which is emerging as a key focus in modern warfare strategies. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in a post on X, informed that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out the successful flight trials of the ULPGM-V3. "In a major boost to India's defence capabilities, @DRDO_India has successfully carried out flight trials of UAV Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 in the National Open Area Range (NOAR), test range in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh," he wrote. "Congratulations to DRDO and the industry partners, DcPPs, MSMEs and Start-ups for the development and successful trials of the ULPGM-V3 system. This success proves that the Indian industry is now ready to absorb and produce critical Defence Technologies," he added. Why Trials In NOAR? The choice of NOAR in Kurnool for the trial is consistent with DRDO's strategy of using the facility to validate cutting-edge technologies. India's ULPGM-V2 Earlier, ULPGM-V2 was developed by DRDO's Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), featuring multiple warhead configurations. The evolution toward UAV-launched, extended-range munitions, unveiled at Aero India 2025, includes sophisticated enhancements such as imaging infrared (IIR) seekers and dual-thrust propulsion systems, features likely present in the V3 variant. The ULPGM systems are designed to be lightweight, precise, and compatible with various aerial platforms. They provide strategic flexibility in combat environments. The successful trial marks a significant boost in the nation's push for self-reliance in critical defence technologies.

Oral health key for cancer care, boosting survival rates: AIIMS
Oral health plays a significant role in cancer care, and increasing survival rate, according to researchers from the All India Medical Science (AIIMS). The presence of pathogenic oral bacteria such as Porphyromonas gingivalis and Prevotella intermedia has been shown to elevate cancer incidence and adversely affect overall cancer-specific and disease-free survival. In a comment published in the journal, The Lancet Regional Health - Southeast Asia, oncologists Dr. Abhishek Shankar, and Dr. Vaibhav Sahni from AIIMS stated that urged the need to boost public health initiatives as oral health can significantly influence cancer outcomes and survivorship. 'It is abundantly clear that oral healthcare plays a significant role in enhancing health-related outcomes, including those related to cancer survivorship. This evidence underscores the necessity of integrating oral health practices not only at the primary care level but throughout all healthcare settings,' the researchers said in the paper. The oncologists also cited several global studies that cited the link between oral health and cancer, particularly in head and neck cancers (HNC). The studies showed that routine dental visits over the past 10 years were associated with reduced cancer mortality. They urged for initiatives such as the toothbrushing programmes for boosting oral care and implementing oral mouthrinse- based point-of-care 3 (PoC) testing for early diagnosis of periodontal disease. 'We tried to emphasise the importance of oral health in cancer care particularly for the Southeast Asia region to promote awareness and policy-level decision-making,' Dr Shankar, Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at AIIMS, Delhi, told IANS. 'We want public health initiatives to be structured around oral health such as school toothbrushing programmes stand to aid not only the population at large but the exchequer as well,' he added. Further, the paper suggests sensitising and incentivising teachers and families regarding the importance of oral health, alongside providing free toothbrush and toothpaste samples to help foster behavioural change. In addition, public health interventions like nutrition and sugar warning labels may assist consumers in making informed decisions. 'Prohibiting sugar-laden foods marketed using likable characters needs to be taken up seriously at a policy level,' Dr Sahni, Scientist of Radiation Oncologat, AIIMS Delhi, told IANS. He highlighted the systemic and public health importance of oral health in cancer-related outcomes as well as emphasise the need for relevant data. The expert also called for proper studies in Southeast Asia and not a simple translation of Western findings to the region's context.
