Don't question achievements, work of Marathi people: BJP, MahaYuti govt snub Nishikant Dubey
Mumbai BJP president and Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, stated in the Assembly on Monday, 'The MP from Jharkhand must definitely present his argument that is within the law, but should not question the achievements and work of Marathi people. Marathi people do not live on anyone's pie.'
Shelar did not name Dubey citing the fact that he was not a member of the Maharashtra Assembly.
Shelar further said, 'Maharashtra is a testimony to the prowess of Marathi people all over the world. Marathi people's contribution to the GDP is quite substantial.'
He added, 'The government's role is to protect the interests of Marathi people and ensure that injustice is not done to them."
Shelar went on to add that, 'If the MP from Jharkhand does not know what the contribution of Marathi people is to the country's GDP, we will send him information about it.'
Shelar's bid to clarify the position of the BJP and the MahaYuti government came after Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray slammed Dubey saying that, 'In Mumbai, non-Marathi speaking people are living with Marathi people with dignity. This has set the BJP's base on fire, there are scoundrels like Dubey, who are trying to vitiate the atmosphere.'
Earlier, Dubey sparked controversy as in his fiery response to Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena founder Raj Thackeray, he said, 'You people are surviving on our money. What kind of industries do you have? If you are courageous enough and beat those who speak Hindi, then you should beat all those who speak Urdu, Tamil, and Telugu. If you are such a big 'boss', come out of Maharashtra, come to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu. Tumko patak, patak ke marenge.'
Dubey criticised the Thackeray brothers for targeting Hindi-speaking people in Mumbai.

HC dismisses ‘fake degree' plea against UP deputy CM Maurya
Prayagraj: The Allahabad high court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking registration of a criminal case against Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader Keshav Prasad Maurya over allegations of submitting fake educational degrees while contesting elections and obtaining a petrol pump dealership. Rejecting the revision petition filed by one Diwakar Nath Tripathi, a BJP leader and social activist from Prayagraj, Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh said, "The complainant-revisionist is not a person deceived by Keshav Prasad Maurya (second respondent in the petition). He had no locus to move an application under section 156 (3) of CrPC seeking direction to register FIR regarding the alleged offence of cheating and forgery, which are not covered under section 39 (public to give information of certain offences) of CrPC. " "The wheels of criminal justice system cannot be permitted to be clogged by frivolous complaints where a complainant himself is not aggrieved or victim in any manner," the court added. Passing the order, the bench said: "The proceedings appear to be prima facie initiated maliciously by the revisionist with oblique motives and an intention to gain some advantage or settle his score." Tripathi later challenged the ACJM's order before the high court. However, in Feb 2024, the court dismissed his revision on the ground of delay, noting that the petition was filed more than 300 days after the trial court's order. However, in Jan this year, the Supreme Court condoned the delay and directed the high court to consider the matter on the merits. Pursuant to the SC's directions, Tripathi again approached the Allahabad HC with a fresh revision petition taking the same allegations and grounds. The matter was admitted in Apr 2025, and judgment was reserved on May 23, 2025.

BMC polls made Uddhav team up with bro Raj. He may not recover politically if he fails UBT Sena's Uddhav Thackeray, a practitioner of fluid politics, joining hands with MNS boss cousin Raj, a far-right hardline Marathi-Maratha politician, is unsurprising – the bros want to win elections to India's richest civic body, BMC. Shiv Sena has won BMC polls since 1985, barring 1992-1996. Raj broke away in 2005 after Uddhav inherited the party. Shiv Sena split in 2022 – Eknath Shinde toppled Uddhav govt and walked away with CMship, sainiks, party and symbol. Cut to the present: MNS has zero electoral relevance, Uddhav is floundering. After Lok Sabha and state polls, elections to BMC – the jewel in Sena's crown – will be Uddhav's third test. He has struggled to articulate his idea of a more inclusive Sena within the secular camp. When he resigned his post ahead of a floor test, it was a principled stand for a politician. It however cost him a potential return to office in the Supreme Court case that followed. Uddhav won the people's sympathy, sweeping LS polls, only to come a cropper in state elections. Mahayuti (BJP+Shinde Sena) has held strong as a unit. UBT Sena long announced it wouldn't contest BMC polls as part of MVA. In tying up with MNS, Uddhav has turned another corner. Is there a meeting ground? If anything, it was Raj who raised eyebrows. He created an opening for a patch-up when he criticised Centre's reaction to Pahalgam attack. MNS brings sainiks, UBT Sena brings Uddhav. Will it be enough? In 2021-2022, OBC quota within BMC was a contentious issue – in 2021, under Uddhav, delimitation increased the number of wards from 227 to 236. Shinde scrapped that in Aug 2022. As the process for the election gets underway, it's such issues that will influence outcomes. The stakes are high for both Shinde Sena-BJP and UBT Sena-MNS. But for Uddhav personally, a loss can be hard to recover from. In the last BMC polls in 2017, undivided Shiv Sena won 84 seats, junior ally BJP 82. No one got a majority in the 227-seat BMC. Sena retained mayor's post. But eight years on, BJP's the Big Bro, and CM Fadnavis is aggressively if quietly calling the shots.
