Veteran Dzeko returns to Serie A with Fiorentina

ROME : Veteran striker Edin Dzeko has returned to Serie A after joining Fiorentina on a free transfer from Fenerbahce, the Italian club announced today.
The 39-year-old has signed a one-year deal with an automatic extension to stay for a second season 'if certain conditions are met'.
Dzeko previously played six seasons in Serie A with Roma and then enjoyed a two-year spell at Inter Milan, winning the Italian Cup in 2022 and 2023.
Bosnia and Herzegovina's all-time leading goalscorer, who won two Premier League titles with Manchester City, scored 21 goals in all competitions last season for Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce before his contract expired.
Fiorentina finished sixth in Serie A last term, qualifying for the Uefa Conference League.
Former AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli is expected to take over as coach following the surprise departure of Raffaele Palladino.

The Reds are trying to complete a deal for France international Ekitike by this weekend after he reportedly indicated he was willing to move to Anfield. Liverpool are set to offer over £70 million for Ekitike, who has also attracted interest from Newcastle and Manchester United. The 23-year-old scored 22 goals in all competitions for Frankfurt last season after joining the Bundesliga club from Paris St-Germain. Liverpool have an opening in their forward line after Diogo Jota's recent death in a car crash in Spain. The Reds are also believed to be willing to sell Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez, while Colombia forward Luis Diaz has been the target of a rejected bid from Bayern Munich. Liverpool have already splashed out £116 million on Germany playmaker Florian Wirtz, as well as signing defenders Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez from Bayer Leverkusen and Bournemouth respectively. Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has also linked up with Arne Slot's side since the end of last season after agreeing his move from Valencia in 2024.

Travers agreed a four-year contract with the Premier League club, who will open their new stadium at the start of the forthcoming season. The 26-year-old said: 'I'm extremely proud and excited to be an Everton player. Coming in, you can feel how big this club is and the history that comes with it. 'You really feel that with the fanbase, the new stadium now as well and the direction the club is going in. 'It's a really exciting time to be part of this massive football club and I just can't wait to get going.' Travers, who made 82 appearances for Bournemouth during his nine years with the club, will compete with England keeper Jordan Pickford for the starting place in David Moyes' team.

(EPA Images pic) LONDON : Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic joined Bournemouth in a deal worth a reported £25 million (US$33 million) on Wednesday. Petrovic agreed a contract that will keep him at the Vitality Stadium until June 2030. The 25-year-old had been at Chelsea since joining from MLS side New England Revolution in 2023. Petrovic, who spent last season on loan at French team Strasbourg, made 31 appearances for the west London club. 'I'm really happy to be here. I came to Bournemouth because I want to grow and I want to play at the best level,' the Serbia international said. 'Together with this club, with these facilities, I think we can achieve it. I want to help the team get the results, improve every day and be a better player.' Bournemouth had Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea last season. The Spain keeper has since joined Arsenal on a permanent basis, while Cherries back-up Mark Travers signed for Everton on Tuesday.
