In preparation for the May 7 mock drills, security has been stepped up in the national capital. As a part of its arrangements, Delhi Police prepares its LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Device) System for tomorrow's mock drill.
What Is LRAD?
An LRAD (Long-Range Acoustic Device) System has a range of more than one kilometre and can be used as a hooter to alert the public in case of a sudden attack or as a public announcement system to give a message to a large gathering.
Similar to the Long-Range Acoustic Device (LRAD), there are two more types of sonic weapons: the Mosquito and the infrasonic weapon.
According to an Indian Express report, loud noises by LRAD can cause a sensation of ringing ears, also called tinnitus, which can last for minutes after the exposure or for days.
Police have increased day and night patrolling across different areas in the city with a special focus on tourist and market places. Special patrol units have been mobilised to cover key areas, including Connaught Place, India Gate, Janpath, Yashwant Palace, Gole Market and other vital installations.
On Tuesday morning, a police team monitored the security arrangements at Connaught Place.
Relations between India and Pakistan have witnessed escalating tension following the terror attack in south Kashmir's Pahalgam in which 26 people, mostly tourists, lost their lives.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed to pursue the perpetrators and conspirators of the attack to the "ends of the Earth" to inflict punishment on them "beyond their imagination".

More than 20 lakh Assam farmers get ₹422 crore under PM-KISAN scheme
'More than 20 lakh farmers in Assam have received more than ₹422 crore under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme,' officials said on Sunday (August 3, 2025.) The amount was disbursed on Saturday (August 1, 2025) as part of a nationwide programme, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi,' a senior official of the Agriculture Department said. "Under the 20th instalment of the PM-Kisan scheme, more than 20.31 lakh eligible farmer families in Assam have received the benefit," he added. As per the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, eligible farming families receive ₹6,000 annually in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each. "Nearly 20.31 lakh farmers across our State have received ₹422.05 crore directly into their bank accounts under the PM-KISAN scheme. This timely support is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji towards ensuring dignity, security and prosperity for our Annadatas," Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora said in a post on X. PM-KISAN is one of the flagship schemes of the Central Government and is the world's largest direct benefit transfer (DBT) programme. With the aim of fulfilling the financial needs of farmers and enhancing the overall productivity of the agriculture sector, the Government of India launched this scheme on February 24, 2019 as a strategic initiative. Commenting on the scheme, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Over the years, this scheme has played a key role in empowering our farmers and giving them a token of recognition from a thankful nation. Gratitude to Adarniya Shri @narendramodi ji for consistently working for empowering the farmers of the nation."

Delhi Police ban drones, other aerial devices, for 2 weeks as security measure for Independence Day
Flying a drone, or any unmanned aerial vehicle, in Delhi between August 2 and August 16 could lead to a jail sentence of up to one year and a fine of Rs 5,000, as per an order by Police Commissioner S B K Singh in connection with preparations for Independence Day. The move came days after Singh officially took charge as the police commissioner at the Delhi Police headquarters on Ashoka Road. Singh's first order of business after taking over the commissioner's office was to hold a security review meeting on Friday to review preparations for Independence Day on August 15. According to the order, flying aerial devices such as paragliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVs unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), microlight aircraft, hot air balloons, small-sized powered aircraft, quadcopters, and remotely piloted aircraft has been banned under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. (BNNS). 'It has been reported that certain criminal, anti-social elements or terrorists inimical to India may pose a threat to the safety of the general public, dignitaries and vital installations by the use of sub- conventional aerial platforms over the jurisdiction of the NCT of Delhi on the occasion of Independence Day Celebrations- 2025 in the National Capital of Delhi and doing so shall be punishable under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023,' the order stated. The order has been forwarded to all deputy commissioners of police, additional DCPs, tehsil Offices, all police stations and offices of the New Delhi Municipal Council, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and Delhi Cantonment Board. The meeting lasted nearly two hours and included district deputy commissioners, range joint commissioners, and special commissioners. An officer said the meeting emphasised on surveillance measures to be intensified in sensitive areas, increased patrolling and vigilance. Senior officers were asked to personally supervise security drills and verify the deployment of quick reaction teams, bomb disposal squads, and sniffer dog units.
