'We thought that was it… but when this latest incident happened, we were quite shocked. We are now analysing its impact. 'I believe this will, to some extent, change the political landscape in the state,' he said, after chairing the party's state leadership council (Majlis Pimpinan Negeri) meeting Sunday. A news portal reported that a new video — allegedly involving leaders from GRS component parties Star and PBS — has been recorded but not yet made public. The footage is said to show discussions on political support and payments amounting to several million ringgit. Mustapha said party machinery across Sabah has been told to stay alert and prepare for any possibility. 'We need to be ready for any possibility that may happen because of this latest video incident,' he said. On possible cooperation with other parties, he said formal talks with GRS have not started, but PKR is open to it. 'GRS also wants to work with Pakatan Harapan and we welcome that. I think it's time for us to start discussions — maybe over coffee first,' he said. Meanwhile, negotiations with Barisan Nasional (BN) are almost complete. 'We've met with BN many times already and there's only about 5pc left to resolve,' he said. He also said culaan — ground-level voter profiling — is being carried out to understand the level of support in different areas. 'Through these culaan activities, at the very least, we'll know the level of voter support… and that will become our basis when negotiating with any party that wants to work with us.' During the meeting, Sabah PKR also announced its new state leadership line-up. Mustapha remains as chairman, with Datuk Peto Galim as deputy and state election director. Former Sabah PKR chief Datuk Christina Liew has been appointed party adviser, alongside Abdul Rahman Yakub. Vice-chairmen are Datuk Sangkar Rasam, Azmi Datu Tambuyung and Mohd Amin Mem. Datin Rupinah Pangeran and Zaidi Jatil continue as the heads of the women and youth wings respectively. Other appointments include Abdul Razak Jamil as secretary and co-election director, Stefly Said as treasurer, Ahmad Farid Sainuri as information chief, Mohd Guntur Sangkar as communications director, Grace Lee as organising secretary, and Ag. Husaini Ag. Sahari as political bureau member. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? STAR Kapayan chief: Sabahans won't be swayed by mining scandal
Published on: Tuesday, July 01, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 01, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: STAR Kapayan Division Chief Bernard Logijin has dismissed allegations linking party president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan to a mining scandal as a recycled smear tactic ahead of elections. He said Sabahans are wise enough to see through politically motivated attacks and will remain loyal to parties that defend state rights. 'No fabricated scandal will change the minds of Sabah voters. They will always vote for Sabah,' Bernard said, adding that the accusations are part of an old tactic that no longer works. Dr Jeffrey has denied receiving RM1.78 million linked to the mining deal, calling it a baseless political ploy. Bernard stressed that voters are choosing not just leaders, but Sabah's future. 'Anyone who goes against this betrays Sabah and its people," he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? MCMC probing racially charged post linked to army general's promotion
Published on: Tuesday, July 01, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 01, 2025 By: FMT Reporters Text Size: The individual's statement was recorded at Saujana Utama police station, Sungai Buloh, on June 28. (MCMC pic) PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded a statement from an individual suspected of uploading racially charged content on social media. MCMC said the post was believed to refer to the recent promotion of a new lieutenant-general in the Malaysian Armed Forces, and had a narrative that could provoke unrest and threaten national unity. 'The individual was called in to provide a statement and assist with the investigation. MCMC also seized one mobile phone and a SIM card to facilitate the probe,' it said in a statement today. The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, up to two years' imprisonment, or both, upon conviction. MCMC also reminded the public not to upload, share, or circulate content that touches on race, religion and royalty (3R), especially material that could divide the public or disturb societal harmony. Although MCMC did not name the individual, the probe comes after Sungai Buloh PAS chief Zaharudin Muhammad drew criticism over a Facebook post speculating on the emergence of a 'first Malaysian Chinese prime minister' in the next 30 to 40 years. The post included a screenshot of a news report on the promotion of lieutenant-general Johnny Lim, although Zaharudin later said that the image was only for illustration. He later deleted the post and claimed that his remarks were taken out of context. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Umno postpones general assembly to November to focus on Sabah election
Published on: Tuesday, July 01, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 01, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: KUALA LUMPUR: The 2025 Umno General Assembly, originally scheduled for August, has been postponed to Nov 26-29 in view of preparations for the upcoming Sabah state election. Umno Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, in a statement, said the decision was made during the Umno Supreme Council (MT) meeting held at Menara Dato' Onn, World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur on Monday (June 30) night. The meeting chaired by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and was also attended by vice presidents Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, along with other supreme council members. In March, the Umno supreme council had initially set this year's General Assembly for Aug 20 to 23. The five-year term of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly is scheduled to expire automatically on Nov 11 this year, paving the way for the 17th Sabah state election. Additionally, Asyraf Wajdi said Umno will conduct a mid-term review of the effectiveness and performance of the Malaysian unity government, including the achievements of the Umno leadership within the administration, and in government-linked and affiliated agencies. Meanwhile, he said Umno sees no justification for parties in the unity government to absorb members from other component parties, in order to prevent misunderstandings and disharmony within the government. He added that the meeting also decided that the supreme council may consider any appeal submitted by members subjected to disciplinary action, in line with Clause 20.12 of the Umno Constitution. Asyraf Wajdi also expressed Umno's appreciation to the Umno Liaison Bodies of Terengganu and Perak for assisting in the management and delivery of aid to the victims of the tragic bus accident in Gerik on June 10, which claimed the lives of 15 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
