Mercury star Kahleah Copper blasts Indiana Fever fans for booing DeWanna Bonner
Bonner played just nine games with the Fever in the early portion of the 2025 season before requesting a trade, feeling out of place within the franchise's young core. Indiana subsequently waived her on June 25 after the Fever were unable to find a suitable trade partner for the 14-year veteran forward.
To seemingly nobody's surprise, Bonner was serenaded continuously throughout the game with boos and jeers whenever the veteran forward was mentioned or touched the basketball. Adding to the torment, Bonner struggled during her 21 minutes of playing time off the bench by scoring just four points on 1-for-4 from the field and 2-for-3 from the free-throw line.
Cooper, who is one of the more energetic scoring threats for the Mercury, labeled the Indiana fans' actions as "disrespectful" and "unnecessary," considering the impact Bonner has had on the league during her career.
"I just don't understand. Like, she's a legend. All the things she's done for the league, and just then the disrespect, I just can't get down with it. They booed her. She didn't say a word to the crowd. People talked some trash to her, but we had her back," Copper said.
"It's just very distasteful what their fan base is doing when it comes to DB [DeWanna Bonner]. She is just the sweetest soul. The situation didn't work for her. It just wasn't what she wanted or whatever, but we don't need all of that. It's just unnecessary."
Despite a June 26 statement clarifying her abrupt decision to leave the Fever as "just not the right fit," Indiana fans did not buy into the veteran's explanation, especially after almost immediately rejoining a talented Phoenix squad that could be viewed as one of the top title contenders out of the WNBA's Western Conference.
Ironically, Bonner's departure allowed the Fever to recoup enough salary cap space to sign guard Aari McDonald for the remainder of the season.
In the ultimate karma moment for Fever fans, McDonald was seemingly unstoppable Wednesday night by posting a career-high 27 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field, including 3-for-4 from 3-point territory. The 5-foot-6 guard was also a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line during her 31 minutes of action.
The Fever and Mercury Will meet two more times this season, with both games taking place at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. With the first of those two remaining meetings occurring on Aug. 7, it will be very interesting to see how Mercury fans plan to get retribution on the Fever.

Sophie Cunningham fined $1,500 for blasting WNBA refs on first podcast episode
Fever's Sophie Cunningham has had her fair share of fines levied upon her by the WNBA. Tuesday was no different. After her first episode of her new podcast 'Show Me Something' aired on July 30, it was announced on Tuesday that the league fined her $ 1,500 for the comments against the referees. 'They're just so inconsistent, like that's one thing. If you're on the other team, and you're going to be fouling the f–k out of me, cool. But let me do it to you.' Cunningham said. 'I think players across the league, and new fans across the country are like, what is going on with the refs? And I'm like, 'I don't know.' And you fining me $500 is not going to do s–t.' Advertisement Cunningham even joked after saying these comments that the league would fine her again. She was proven right. But this was not the first time she had criticized the refs on social media of late. Advertisement Cunningham on TikTok lip-sang to Sabrina Carpenter's 'Manchild' and used references to call some WNBA refs stupid, slow, and useless. NBAE via Getty Images This forced the league to give her a $500 fine, her first, for criticizing the referees. Cunningham bit back at the league on this ruling with a post on social media. Advertisement 'This is funny to me…like, ok, you got it, bud! Cause there's not more important things to be worried about with our league right now.' Cunningham said. Though these fines have slowed her pay, they have had little effect on the Fever's overall performance. Getty Images Coming into Tuesday's matchup with the Sparks, the Fever are on a five-game winning streak, starting just one day after Cunningham's first fine and with star, Caitlin Clark still out with an injury

Wayne Matthews III says MSU is 'stacked' at LB, gives freshman LB a shout out
A freshman Spartans linebacker is turning heads in what is considered a "stacked" position group A freshman linebacker has gained the respect and grabbed the attention of a veteran within that position room. Veteran linebacker Wayne Matthews spoke with the media on Tuesday, fielding a number of questions about the Spartans as they prepare for the 2025 season. Matthews was quoted staying the Spartans are "stacked" at linebacker this year, with one particular young player getting a personal shout out as well: Brady Pretzlaff. Per a post on social media from Emmett Matasovsky of Spartan Shadows, Matthews said Pretzlaff is "going to be a guy" for the Spartans. Whether or not that is this year or down the road is not clear, but certainly still some high praise from Matthews for the young redshirt freshman linebacker. Here's the full post from Matasovsky with the quote from Matthews: Pretzlaff played in four games last year but was able to preserve his redshirt status. He tallied a seven total tackles, with one of which being for a loss. He was a four-star prospect in On3's ratings for the 2024 class, and a nice recruiting win for Jonathan Smith's staff in his first recruiting cycle. Pretzlaff came to Michigan State with expectations of seeing solid playing time early in his career and it sounds like that is going to happen. Having another young solid linebacker in an already talented -- "stacked" as Matthews said -- room is great news for the Spartans.
