Cow and Chicken takeaway in Abersychan gets 4-star rating
This was awarded based on three categories set by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
The takeaway was graded 'good' in the categories of 'hygienic food handling' and 'cleanliness and condition of facilities and building'.
However, it was deemed 'generally satisfactory' in the category of 'management of food safety'.
This category considers whether systems or checks are in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat.
It also considers whether the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
The Food Hygiene Rating Act 2013 requires all food businesses in Wales, including takeaways, to display their hygiene ratings prominently.
The ratings, which range from zero to five, are determined by local authority officers and are updated on the FSA website.
A spokesperson for Cow and Chicken said on Facebook: "We are very proud to announce that after our food hygiene inspection, we have received a rating of 4, 'Good'!"
Businesses have the right to appeal against ratings.
Each inspection is carried out under three categories: hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and the management of food safety.
These categories cover everything from the preparation, cooking, and storage of food, to the layout, ventilation, and hand-washing facilities of the building.
The management of food safety category looks at whether the business has a system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat.
It also requires evidence that staff know about food safety, and that the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
The rating system was introduced to ensure that all food businesses in Wales maintain a high standard of food hygiene and safety.
Cow and Chicken's four-star rating indicates that the takeaway meets these standards and is considered to be 'good' in terms of its food hygiene practices.
