Lucknow, Aug 3 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday claimed that police recruitments in the state before 2017 were marred by corruption and nepotism, which directly impacted the state's law and order situation.
'Sometimes, there were attacks in the courts of Ayodhya, Kashi and Lucknow, and sometimes, there were terrorist attacks. During this period, the CRPF camp in Rampur was also targeted,' he added.
Emphasising the 'double-engine government', formed in 2017 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Adityanath mentioned that significant steps were taken to ensure transparent and fair recruitment processes.
'The Police Recruitment Board was strengthened, and as a result, Uttar Pradesh now tops the country in police recruitments and government jobs,' Adityanath claimed, adding that so far, 8.5 lakh youth have been given government jobs, the highest in the country.
Highlighting the recruitment reforms, Adityanath pointed out that over 2.17 lakh personnel have been recruited into the police force since 2017. 'These figures are not just numbers; they signify a renewed identity, security, and public trust,' he remarked.
The chief minister also noted significant infrastructure developments in police lines and headquarters across districts, mentioning that barracks are now often the tallest structures in those areas.
Seven new police commissionerates have been established, and women now have a 20 per cent reservation in police recruitment, he informed.
Adityanath further praised the role of the police telecom department during the Mahakumbh and noted the provision of a 20 per cent reservation for Agniveers in police recruitment.
'In a state with 25 crore people, the role of telecom police is crucial. As India moves towards becoming the third-largest economy, the police must balance sensitivity with strictness,' he concluded.
Among the 1494 recruits, there are 1,374 assistant operators and 120 workshop staff, according to an official statement.

Aligarh, August 5 Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme has emerged as a national model. Speaking at a mega event in Aligarh, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation for 186 projects worth ₹958 crore, the CM urged people to embrace local products, calling Swadeshi a must for economic self-reliance and prosperity. He said, 'Adopting Swadeshi is the need of the hour. If our money stays with our own craftsmen and artisans, it will lead to growth and prosperity, and also help increase per capita income.' Karnataka HC cracks whip, trade unions suspend strike till Aug 7
Bengaluru, Aug 5 (PTI) The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday came down heavily on the transport strike despite its interim order and warned of contempt proceedings, following which the KSRTC Staff and Workers' Federation announced suspension of the agitation till August 7, when the matter will be heard next. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice C M Joshi expressed strong displeasure over the strike being carried out despite the invocation of the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) and the court's direction not to proceed with the agitation. The bench warned that the continuation of the strike would not be tolerated and would initiate contempt proceedings against the union leaders. The court extended its earlier interim order restraining the strike by two more days and directed the unions to submit an affidavit on Wednesday confirming that the strike has been called off. KSRTC Staff and Workers' Federation president H V Anantha Subbarao told reporters in Bengaluru that the agitation had been suspended till August 7 and employees had been instructed to return to work with immediate effect. During the hearing, the Advocate General informed the court that the strike had caused significant hardship to the public. In response to a query from the bench regarding efforts at conciliation, details of past rounds of talks with the government were submitted. The court observed that if there are issues then they should be resolved through talks with the government. It also noted that resorting to a strike even after ESMA had been enforced was unlawful. The court also issued notices to the unions of all four state transport corporations. The counsel for the Joint Action Committee assured the court that the strike would not continue on Wednesday. The court made it clear that if the strike is resumed, the government is free to take appropriate legal action under ESMA.
