Opposition to nominate two experts for special committee on Putra Heights blast, says Selangor MB
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the move was to enable the report that had been produced to be reviewed and any shortcomings that arose to be identified, while also mobilising efforts to ensure that those responsible are found.
'The state government is also prepared to publish the entire report. We are currently compiling it as it involves several departments. Within two weeks of the end of this assembly, I am confident that the printing will be completed.
'We will also distribute the reports in the affected areas, as well as all the assemblymen and those interested in studying this matter,' he told reporters at a special information session on the Putra Heights incident at the Selangor State Assembly here today.
Previously, Amirudin was reported to have said that the Selangor government would set up a special committee to investigate the cause of the gas pipe explosion incident in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, which occurred on April 1
According to Amirudin, the committee, comprising seven experts, will get other various agencies involved, including representatives of the state and federal governments and related bodies such as Petronas, to review the investigation findings and draft legal proposals along with long-term preventive measures.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said that the special committee has been given three months to draft relevant proposals.
'For the state government, it will definitely involve policies, local authorities to add value to related works while for the gas pipeline owners such as Petronas Gas or Gas Malaysia, to look at additional information such as factors and the surrounding area of the land as well as situations involving land issues,' he said.
Amirudin also reiterated his assurance that the state government is committed to ensuring transparency in the delivery of information and will not protect or cover up any wrongdoing regarding the incident from public knowledge. — Bernama

He said this in response to a question from Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran) on whether the 2002 International Court of Justice (ICJ) decision regarding the sovereignty of Ligitan and Sipadan islands could affect the determination of the maritime boundary between Malaysia and Indonesia in the Sulawesi Sea, including the sovereignty of blocks ND6 (Block Y) and ND7 (Block Z).

Anwar says Malaysia won't bow to US pressure on Gaza stance amid ongoing tariff talks
KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 — Malaysia's stance on the Gaza issue, as well as matters concerning Palestine and West Asian countries including Iran, will remain unchanged despite the possibility of facing pressure or objections from the United States (US) during the ongoing tariff negotiations, which are expected to continue until August. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia, as an independent and sovereign nation, has the right to express its views on the matter. 'We are not yet at the final stage of negotiations as reported last week. There are still no clear indications, but there are several considerations during the negotiations,' he said. 'The main issue involves electrical and electronics (E&E), semiconductors, and chips, as I mentioned in the Parliament. About 60 per cent of our production is exported to the US. However, the US also relies on Malaysia for chips and E&E, accounting for around 25 per cent of its production. ‘Kutty' row ends as Dr Mahathir, Zahid withdraw legal actions against each other
KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 — Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today agreed to withdraw their respective defamation lawsuits filed against each other at the High Court here. Dr Mahathir, 100, withdrew his suit against Ahmad Zahid, 73, over allegedly defamatory remarks related to the 'kutty' issue, without the right to refile the case. In return, Ahmad Zahid withdrew his suit accusing Dr Mahathir of abusing his position to interfere in his ongoing court case. He also dropped contempt of court proceedings related to a press conference held by Dr Mahathir at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex lobby on Dec 5 last year. Judicial Commissioner Gan Techiong allowed both applications and ordered the cases to be resolved without any order as to costs. Dr Mahathir had initially filed the suit over remarks allegedly made by Ahmad Zahid during the Kelana Jaya UMNO Division meeting on July 30, 2017, which were later published by several news portals. The contempt proceedings were related to Dr Mahathir's press conference, during which he displayed documents including his identity card after testifying in the suit against Ahmad Zahid. — Bernama
