Rapid KL probes viral video of MRT bus-cyclist clash, says driver has undergone counselling
The incident, which was captured by one of the cyclists and widely shared on social media, raised public concern over road safety and the conduct of bus drivers around vulnerable road users, according to a report published in the New Straits Times today.
In a statement today, Rapid KL said the bus captain had difficulty proceeding as a group of cyclists had occupied the left lane, obstructing the vehicle's path.
'This situation forced the bus captain to halt the vehicle and confront the group. A brief altercation ensued but was swiftly brought under control by a passing Road Transport Department (RTD) officer,' the company said.
The bus captain has since undergone a counselling session aimed at improving the handling of such situations, Rapid KL added.
All drivers have also been reminded to maintain courteous behaviour and adhere to strict safety protocols at all times.
The company advised the public to stay alert and follow traffic rules to avoid incidents, and reminded cyclists to ride in single file and avoid entering vehicle lanes or obstructing traffic.

(File pic) KUALA LUMPUR : A former senior police officer told the High Court here today police in Perlis did not find any criminal element in missing activist Amri Che Mat's case. Azahar Muda, who used to head the state police's criminal investigation department, said a witness, Yusri Khalid, who claimed he saw a car chase on the night of Nov 24, 2016, could not confirm if Amri was involved. He said another witness, Vee Yak Ban Jong, who saw a few cars parked outside Amri's house several days before the activist went missing, was also of no assistance to the authorities. 'That was why we opened an inquiry paper because we had doubts and were unsure (of what happened). I told my officers to look for leads and witnesses. 'To me, Amri's case was a normal missing person's case, of which we had a handful in Perlis,' he said. Azahar was testifying in a lawsuit filed by Amri's wife, Norhayati Ariffin, against the government and several police officers, including himself, over the conduct of investigations into the activist's disappearance. The suit alleges that the defendants breached the law and their statutory duties, committed misfeasance in public office, and were negligent in the discharge of their responsibilities. Norhayati's lawyer, Surendra Ananth, pointed out that Vee Yak had identified the number plate of a Toyota Vios that was parked outside Amri's house. 'Did you ask (investigating officers) Khor Yi Shuen and Roslan Remeli to check the number plate and its registered owner?' he asked. Azahar said the duo informed him that the registered owner, Saiful Bahari Abdul Aziz, was working on the night of Nov 24, 2016. 'I told them to check the toll plaza CCTV to see if any Toyota Vios had entered Perlis and also to see if anyone named Saiful Bahari had checked into hotels here. 'They said no Vios had entered Perlis that day. Khor also went to Saiful's workplace and found that the Vios had no tinted windows, which contradicted what Vee Yak had said,' he said. Surendra: Did you know that the task force concluded that police had failed to make Saiful a prime suspect, and that you did not get information on his whereabouts in a speedy manner? Azahar: I disagree (with the findings). Khor went to check the toll booths and hotels (around Perlis). Azahar acknowledged that the Attorney-General's Chambers had reclassified Amri's disappearance as a kidnapping in 2019, and said they had simply complied with this instruction. Senior federal counsel Zetty Zurina Kamaruddin told the court Azahar was the defendant's last witness and that they wished to close their case. Justice Su Tiang Joo ordered both parties to file their submissions and replies before Sept 29. The court fixed Nov 5 for a decision, the same day as the decision in Pastor Raymond Koh's family's lawsuit against the government and police.

Man flips out over Penang char koay teow

GEORGE TOWN : Police say they will not take action against a man who attacked a char koay teow seller in New Lane here over the weekend. In a viral video shot by a member of the public at about 7pm on July 5, the man appeared to be upset that the hawker was ignoring a question about which plate of the noodles was his. He then proceeded to shout at one of the two stallholders, appearing to slap one of them. One of the stallholders then threatened to call the police, with the irate man saying to go ahead, before proceeding to flip the hawker's wok. In a statement this evening, Timur Laut deputy police chief Lee Swee Sake said one of the stallholders had lodged a police report over the incident. 'After investigations, we have classified the case as no further action after the complainant forgave the suspect, who had apologised to him after the incident. 'The complainant also does not wish to pursue the case, as neither he nor his family members suffered any loss or injury,' he said.

PAC summons Amir Hamzah over sale of shares, privatisation of MAHB
PAC chairman Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan is being summoned as part of the committee's proceedings related to the management of public airports. PETALING JAYA : The Public Accounts Committee has summoned finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan to provide testimony regarding the sale of shares and privatisation of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd tomorrow. Its chairman, Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, said Amir Hamzah is being summoned as part of the PAC's proceedings related to the management of public airports, in which the committee has conducted six proceedings over the past week. Among the witnesses were former MAHB CEO Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd CEO Lee Jim Leng, and Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) CEO Nik Amlizan Mohamed. Permodalan Nasional Bhd president and group CEO Abdul Rahman Ahmad, Bursa Malaysia CEO Fad'l Mohamed, and Securities Commission Malaysia executive director Zain Azhari Mazlan – representing SC chairman Faiz Azmi – were also called. Among the witnesses called last month were former EPF chairman Ahmad Badri Zahir, EPF chief investment officer Rohaya Yusof, Khazanah board member Goh Ching Yin, and Khazanah Nasional executive director Wong Shu Hsien. Mas Ermieyati said the PAC has now conducted 14 proceedings on the issue of public airport management and will table its report after receiving testimony from all the relevant stakeholders. Last December, she had announced that the PAC would start an inquiry into airport management involving MAHB, the finance ministry, and Khazanah. The PAC was previously called on to probe the privatisation of MAHB, in particular the rationale of selling 30% of MAHB's shares to the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (Adia) and Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP). Global investment firm BlackRock, which allegedly has connections with Israel and its military, completed its acquisition of GIP in October. GIP and Adia are taking up a 30% stake in MAHB through a consortium led by Khazanah. The rest will be owned by Khazanah (40%) and EPF (30%). Critics of the MAHB privatisation deal have claimed that EPF lost RM500 million in stock trading from buying back MAHB shares at higher prices after selling them at lower rates. Mas Ermieyati previously said PAC's inquiry into MAHB would not be limited to its privatisation deal, but would include issues related to the management of public airports, including the hike in airfares to Sabah and Sarawak, and the delayed reinstallation of the aerotrain service at KLIA.
