The mission, which focuses on developing foundational literacy and numeracy, is currently meant for children up to class 3. The call from those states came after the assessment results pointed to a sharp drop in scores in class 6 compared to class 3.

Odisha surpasses Kerala to secure 5th rank in school education index
Odisha has achieved a remarkable climb in the Union Ministry of Education's Performance Grading Index 2.0 (PGI2.0) for 2023-24, securing the fifth position state improved from 14th place in 2019 to fifth, registering a score of 595.6 out of 1,000, and earning the Prachesta3 a post on X, former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, "Glad to share that Odisha has earned 5th rank nationally in the School Grading System as per Performance Grading Index. Report released by the Government of Odisha has achieved a score of 595.6 and secured PRACHESTA- 3 grade for the academic year 2023-24, up from 14th in 2019. The PGI 2.0 evaluates school education through 73 indicators across two categories: Outcomes and Governance & Management.'The state has overtaken Kerala in the education rankings, a milestone once deemed improbable. Former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik attributed this leap to Odisha's 5T initiative, which modernised around 7,000 government schools through infrastructural and technological upgrades.'We always believed that #NewOdisha will be built by empowering every child with the power of education.'He expressed happiness about the foundation for government school education, which helps students excel. He also thanked all the teachers, parents, administration and support staff for this huge EVALUATION USING 73 INDICATORSThe PGI2.0 framework assesses states across 73 indicators spanning six major domains: learning outcomes, infrastructure and facilities, governance processes, access, equity, and teacher are graded on a scale from Daksh (top) to Akanshi3 (lowest). Odisha falls in the 581–640 point range, defined as score in the access domain, which measures issues like enrolment, retention, and transition to the next grade, rose from 59.2 in 202223 to 65.6 in 202324. This positive trend places Odisha amongst the top three states nationally in advancing access to education, alongside Bihar and the rise, the state faces hurdles in digital education. Only a few districts -- Jharsuguda, Khurda, Sambalpur and Sonepur -- scored above 20 out of 50 in the digital learning digital literacy remains crucial, particularly as most districts lag the districtwise PGID rankings, Jharsuguda topped the state with an Uttam3 grade, excelling in classroom quality, learning outcomes, and digital adoption. In contrast, Rayagada was the lowestperforming district, highlighting pockets requiring focused support .JOINING ELITE STATES AT PRACHESTA3 LEVELApart from Odisha, nine other states and Union Territories -- including Punjab, Delhi, Gujarat, Kerala, Haryana, Goa, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu -- also earned Prachesta3 grades by scoring between 581-640. Chandigarh alone claimed the top Prachesta1 impressive ascent showcases the success of systemic reforms like the 5T initiative and renewed emphasis on access and learning quality. To build on this momentum, the state must tackle digital illiteracy and resource inequities in underperforming investment in teacher training, infrastructure, governance, and technology integration will be essential to sustain and further this progress in line with the National Education Policy 2020 and Sustainable Development Goal 4.- Ends
