'Bossy' Meghan dismissed Queen's trusted party planner and Thomas Markle was 'frightened' to attend the wedding: More incredible revelations about run-up to the nuptials that left late monarch 'very upset'

Daily Mail2 days ago
Meghan Markle 's 'bossy' behaviour in the months leading up to her and Prince Harry 's wedding has been revealed - as she refused advice from the late Queen's most trusted party planner.
Journalist and royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith also claimed that Meghan's estranged father Thomas Markle was 'frightened of coming to the wedding' in May 2018 in a post on her Substack channel 'Royal Extras' that was published last week.
She claimed 'everything was going happily for the Queen' until her grandson Harry met the former Suits star and fell head over heels in love with her.
Sally painted a picture of the couple's tumultuous relationship with the late Queen following conversations with Her Majesty's cousin Lady Elizabeth Anson.
Born in Windsor Castle, Lady Elizabeth - a great-niece of the Queen Mother and a goddaughter of King George VI - was a high-society party planner known as Liza to friends.
Sally recalled how she and Liza watched Prince Harry and Meghan's televised interview announcing their engagement together in November 2017, before Liza formally met the actress the following February to discuss ideas for the royal wedding.
While Meghan 'was full of charm', she quickly dismissed any ideas that Liza - who organised Queen Elizabeth II's 80th birthday party - had for their nuptials by saying she couldn't 'make any decisions' until Harry returned to the UK from Botswana.
'He will write from Africa,' Meghan reportedly told Liza.
One of the Queen's most trusted confidantes, Liza later told Sally that Harry had been in touch to say they had decided to go 'another way' and claimed his grandmother was 'content with this' decision to hire a different party planner.
'When I spoke with the Queen, she said she is not at all content,' Liza told Sally. 'Meghan could turn into nothing but trouble. She sees things in a different way.'
Formerly Vanity Fair's Contributing Editor, Sally revealed the months leading up to Harry and Meghan's wedding at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle saw the Duke's relationship with the Queen become strained.
Liza told her how Harry had 'blown his relationship with his grandmother' as Queen Elizabeth II became 'really upset' over some of his and Meghan's plans for their wedding.
The Queen was also saddened after 'Meghan wouldn't tell her' about the wedding dress, Sally wrote, adding that Harry was 'rude to her for ten minutes' during a meeting.
According to Liza, the Queen was dismayed that Harry had asked the Archbishop of Canterbury to perform the wedding service in St. George's Chapel without first requesting permission from the Dean of Windsor.
'Harry seems to think the Queen can do what she wants, but she can't,' said Liza. 'On the religious side, it is the Dean of Windsor's jurisdiction.'
'She said she was really upset,' Sally reported her conversation with Liza.
'I was shocked when the Queen told me this, how she was so saddened. I had no idea about the conversation, that he was rude to her for ten minutes.
'They had tea with her the day before yesterday. She was trying to find out about the wedding dress, and Meghan wouldn't tell her,' the American journalist wrote.
Following these February rows, towards the end of April, Liza claimed that 'the Queen and Harry have patched things up'.
Harry apparently visited her alone to smooth things over and later wrote to her with more wedding details.
But more family drama was on the horizon as Liza told Sally that Meghan's father Thomas Markle was scared to attend the royal wedding.
'I asked her if Meghan was being bossy,' Sally said. ''So I gather,' Liza replied, 'Very much so.''
Thomas, 80, who has since relocated to the Philippines for a 'fresh start', did not attend the wedding due to health problems.
Harry's father, now-King Charles, walked her down the aisle before she said 'I do' to Prince Harry at the altar in St George's chapel.
Despite the Queen's reservations about Meghan, Sally previously wrote, the Royal Family 'fully embraced her and hoped for the best '.
Referring to Queen Elizabeth's plans for the couple as ambassadors to the Commonwealth, one senior adviser said Her Majesty hoped Meghan - who is biracial - would represent a new, progressive Britain.
'Nobody could have tried harder for Meghan than we did,' the adviser told Sally.
Six months after the wedding, however, it became clear that Meghan's 'opinionated and forceful' demeanour had become a serious cause for concern among senior royals and staff.
One adviser claimed the new Duchess of Sussex wasn't even trying 'to fit into the royal family' and was set, instead, on forcing 'her view on Harry'.
Speaking after 'Megxit' - or the splintering of the Royal Family after Harry and Meghan quit as senior members and moved to the US - another staff member said it became clear 'very early on' that Meghan wanted 'to get out'.
Sally said they also suggested Meghan was expecting 'more money' and an even more lavish lifestyle after her marriage into the Royal Family, adding: 'She wanted that royal title that she could leverage.'
MailOnline has asked a spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to comment.
The revelations come as Meghan continues to scale her lifestyle brand As Ever, with the Montecito-based Duchess launching a new rosé on July 1 - the same day as Princess Diana's birth anniversary.
Lady Elizabeth Anson was born at Windsor Castle during World War II and with King George VI as a godfather, she grew up surrounded by, and on first name terms with, the royals.
Lady Elizabeth was also royally connected (her mother, a Bowes-Lyon, was a niece of the Queen Mother) but she was also one of the Queen's closest friends.
For almost 60 years she presided over London's party scene with a ruthless efficiency. From royalty to celebrity her business, Party Planners, organised the capital's best and most lavish celebrations.
She first decided to be a party planner when she was 17. She was working as a receptionist at the Hyde Park Hotel in London, but she fell down a flight of stairs and injured herself.
The fall meant she needed to find a job that would enable her to work from home, and was inspired at having to organise her own debutante party when she realised she could make a living from planning celebrations.
Her first event was for the late Queen Mother. 'She was hosting a party for one of her godchildren,' Lady Elizabeth previously told Mail on Sunday. 'I remember charging very little and receiving a letter from the Queen Mother telling me to double the invoice.'
She hosted bashes for everyone from Baroness Thatcher and Sir Mick Jagger, to Tom Cruise and Bill Clinton. Weddings were a speciality: there was pop star Sting's to Trudie Styler to the slightly more reserved nuptials for Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece (to heiress Chantal Miller).
When Prince William married Kate Middleton in 2011, the Queen asked her to organise a party for all the visiting royal guests.
By then she was a veteran of royal party planning. No palace event, it seemed, was complete without input from Lady Elizabeth. She arranged the Queen's 80th birthday party and that to mark the 50th anniversary of her coronation.
In April 2021, the Queen made Lady Elizabeth a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order as a sign of her personal esteem.

Lana Del Rey thrills London crowd as she's joined onstage by Addison Rae for rousing Diet Pepsi rendition

Lana Del Rey gave fans in London a special treat when she called Addison Rae to the stage. The pair delighted the sold-out crowd at the Wembley Arena show on Thursday night as Lana, 40, continues her UK and Ireland tour. She and Addison, 24, teamed up to perform the latter's hit song, Diet Pepsi. Fans were quick to react to the videos of them singing together as they penned on X: 'ICONICCCCCCC.', 'OH MY GOD.', 'i love this so much i could cry i wasn't there omg.', 'This is so iconic.' 'Omg yesss we need the remix immediately.', 'A CULTURAL RESET!.', 'this is absolutely insaaaane omg.' It comes after last week Lana passionately kissed her husband Jeremy Dufrene onstage while performing in the Wales capital Cardiff. During her show, the singer songwriter stopped mid-performance to run up to her husband, who was standing backstage. She appeared to be still engrossed in their honeymoon phase when she performed the ballad dedicated to her husband, which she debuted at Stagecoach last month. In the middle of serenading both him and her audience with her song Stars Fell On Alabama at Principality Stadium, she got visibly emotional and stopped singing. In fan-taken footage, she appeared to be wiping tears away from her eyes when she walked over to him for an embrace and they kissed all over each other's faces. This came just days after she celebrated her birthday with the swamp boat tour guide and her in-laws. During the performance, the Summertime Sadness singer wore a blue, floral tea dress as she walked around her Southern home porch-inspired set and sang her hits. At the edge of the stage, Dufrene, sporting a baseball hat and a casual, graphic T-shirt, was watching in admiration of his wife as seen in fan-taken footage. A smile crossed his face when Del Rey walked over to him, and they appeared to be whispering sweet nothings into each other's ears while making out. At one point, fans noticed that one of his hands slid down from her waist to her backside in a cheeky moment. The weekend before she rang in her 40th milestone birthday with her husband and their family as seen in her recent social media posts. Last year, the singer and her now-husband exchanged vows by the water in Des Allemandes, Louisiana, at the same bayou where he operates his popular swamp tours. Their nuptials came just one month after she confirmed their relationship following their secret romance. She first shared a photo with him back in 2019 after taking one of his tours from Arthur's Airboats in Des Allemandes. Years after their initial meeting, they reconnected in 2024 before getting engaged and then married in late September 2024 in what sources described as a 'whirlwind' romance. 'It's been kind of a whirlwind romance, but Lana's close friends hoped she would get married,' an insider said. 'Jeremy is different from the men that Lana meets in the entertainment world. He's a great guy.' The source added: 'He's charming and charismatic in a Southern way, very much a gentleman and he treats Lana really well. She's an old soul.' This comes after she posted about her bayou birthday celebration and announced her opening acts for her UK and Ireland tour. 'Just a couple in-laws and a baby. Thank you for sharing your birthday with me cancer queen Phoenix,' she began. 'I'm still convinced I gotta be 50/50 Gemini tho, that would explain all three Lil vibes I got going on all the time,' she added. 'So excited to see everybody starting tomorrow on tour and for all the folks joining us. Truly thank you thank you love you,' she concluded.

Stewart met Hunter in 1990 when she was 21 and he was 45, marrying three months later before separating in 1999 and officially divorcing in 2006. Despite his heartbreak, Stewart met his current wife, Penny Lancaster, the day after his split from Hunter in 1999.
