Ministry of home affairs to facilitate career progression of ex-Agniveers
A gazette notification issued by Cabinet secretariat Monday amended Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961, to add a new entry no 19, 'coordinating activities for further progression of ex-Agniveers', under sub-heading 'department of states' and heading 'ministry of home affairs'.
"MHA will now coordinate with various ministries and departments of govt and also with state/UT govts to facilitate career progression of Agniveers," said an MHA official.
A dedicated online portal will be set up for the purpose.
Agniveers are signed up by defence forces for a four-year stint, after which 25% of them are absorbed and the remaining 75% demobilised. It is a conscious move on part of Centre and states to incentivise youths to choose a short career in the armed forces by offering them a long-term, follow-up career.
Hiring ex-Agniveers will benefit CAPFs and state forces since they will get trained personnel.

No plan to scrap post-matric scholarship for ST/SC students: Centre
The Centre has said there is no proposal to discontinue the Post-Matric Scholarship scheme for Scheduled Tribe or Scheduled Caste students. There have been concerns about whether the scheme will continue beyond 2025-26. In a written response in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale said the objective of the scheme is to increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) of SC and ST students in higher education and that there is no plan to scrap the scheme. Both schemes are currently being implemented with funding and eligibility parameters approved by the Cabinet and Expenditure Finance Committee, which remain valid from financial year 2021-22 to 2025-26. The Centre-State funding patterns differ for SC and ST students. For SC students, the cost-sharing ratio is 60:40 between the Centre and the states, except for the North-Eastern states, where it is 90:10. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment releases the central share directly to students' Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), but only after the state has disbursed its 40 per cent share. For ST students, the fund-sharing ratio stands at 75:25 between the Centre and the states. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs releases 75 per cent of the amount to state governments or Union Territories, which then contribute the remaining 25 per cent and transfer the full amount to students via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in a single instalment.

Over Rs 44 crore released under MGNREGS so far: Centre tells Lok Sabha
Last Updated: New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI) The Centre has released Rs 44,323 crore to states and union territories under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) so far, Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. In a written reply, the minister gave the figures of disbursements of wages, material and admin components till July 17, 2025. According to the revelation, the amount disbursed is almost half of the total allocation of Rs 86,000 crore earmarked for the financial year 2025-26. In a written reply to a separate question, MoS Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan said the allocation included full pending wage liabilities and 50 per cent of Material Liabilities of the previous financial year. 'Regarding budget allocation for Mahatma Gandhi NREGS it is submitted that, for the financial year 2024-25, budget allocation of Rs. 86,000 crore has been made, which was the highest ever allocation for the scheme at the Budget Estimate (BE) stage since inception. In the financial year 2025-26, the Government has retained this allocation at Rs 86,000 crore, ensuring continued support for rural employment," Chouhan said. He said that keeping in view the demand-driven nature of the scheme, the rural development ministry closely monitors demand for employment at the ground level and seeks additional funds from the Finance as and when required. Public hearing on land acquisition for Amaravati railway line on July 22, ETInfra

With an aim to fast track Amaravati railway line works, the state govt has decided to conduct public hearing on land acquisition on Tuesday. The govt issued notices to farmers for the acquisition of about 334 acres in Palnadu district and 200 acres in Guntur district for the proposed railway line to the capital city. The district administration asked farmers to come with their documents and objections about the proposed land cabinet had given its green signal for rail connectivity to Amaravati in last October. Centre has agreed to take up this project on high priority basis despite the fact that it was not projected in the last budget. It estimated that the new rail line project would cost around Rs 2,245 crore and the new line will be laid from Errupalem in Khammam district on the existing Vijayawada-Hyderabad railway line to Nambur station under the Vijayawada-Guntur said that the railway authorities have already completed the land acquisition in Khammam district of Telangana and are gearing up to launch the first phase of works. Although, the process to acquire the land in three districts- NTR, Guntur and Palnadu was also initiated immediately after the Centre's announcement, it got delayed due to objections from land-owning farmers, particularly from Guntur district, were strongly resisting the land acquisition plans as these lands were located close to the capital city and is expected to fetch them massive price. While the current market value for an acre land in and around the capital city is between Rs 4 crore and Rs 8 crore depending on the location, farmers fear that they might not fetch the similar price if acquired by the authorities. Sources said that local legislator Tenali Sravan Kumar is believed to have been negotiating with the farmers to join the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) in case they were not willing to accept the compensation to be offered as per the the state govt recently conducted grama sabhas in several villages of Thullur, Tadikonda mandals to implement the second phase of Land Pooling Scheme (LPS-II). The railway track will pass through Thullur, Tadikonda and Pedakakani mandals.
