Khelo India Youth Games: Sports Council screens J&K Fencing Team for participation
Jammu, May 5 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council on Monday screened the J&K Fencing Team for its participation in the Seventh Khelo India Youth Games underway at Bihar.
The screening was conducted at Indoor Fencing Hall, Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu, highlighting the commitment of the J&K Sports Council to promote and develop young talent in fencing.
The selected team, as per the official comminique issued by the J&K Fencing Association, will compete in the event at Khelo India Youth Games, scheduled at Rajgir, Bihar from May 11 to 15.
The screening was overseen by the J&K Sports Council's Screening Committee comprising Balwinder Singh, Divisional Sports Officer(J), Rajiv Sharma, Member JKSC, Suraj Bhan Singh, Manager Indoor Stadium, Krupali Singh besides other representatives along with International Referee, Rashid Ahmed Chowdhary and National Medalist, Maninder Pal Singh.
The Team shall be accompanied by Rachna Jamwal, Senior Fencing Coach, Shotu Lal Sharma, Fencing Instructor and Vir Sangram Singh, Fencing Coach.
The president, J&K Fencing Association (JKFA), Vijay Kumar and General Secretary, Javed Chowdhary, have wished the best of luck to the team emphasising the support and encouragement for the upcoming championship.
The team comprises the following 12 players: Dhananjay Pandit, Amish Sharma, Manik Sharma, Vansh Raina, Said ur Rehman, Ranvir Jamwal, Rinku Manhas and Sayam Sharma in boys category and Subhanaya Sharma, Bhavya Jamwal, Eknoor Kour and Aahana Gupta in girls category. UNI VBH SSP

Telangana, June 28 (UNI) Two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen started her campaign with a clinical 4:1 win over Uttar Pradesh's Rashi Sharma in the 48–51kg category while Haryana's Anjali got the better of World Championships bronze medallist Manisha Moun in the 57-60 kg category in the Elite Women's Boxing Tournament at Hyderabad's Saroornagar Indoor Stadium. Organised by the Telangana Boxing Federation under the aegis of the Boxing Federation of India(BFI) and the Sports Authority of Telangana, the tournament brings together top-tier names and emerging prospects from across the country. The event, running from June 27 to July 1, features 15 participating units- 12 from the recent Elite Nationals, host Telangana, the SAI NCOE Combined team, and the TOPS Talent & Development squad. Other notable Day 1 results included win for 2023 world champion Nitu (Haryana) in 45- 48kg over Rajani Singh (UP) 5:0 while Telangana's Yashi Sharma defeated K Monisha (Tamil Nadu) 5:0 in the 60–65kg category. Another standout from the TOPS setup, Laxmi, posted a dominant 5:0 win in the 51–54kg bout against Ragini (UP). Former World Youth Champion Ankushita Boro is also in the fray. ICC to host 'Run for Peace, Innovation" in Jammu on Sunday
Jammu, June 28 (UNI The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Jammu Chapter is hosting the much-awaited ICC Jammu 10-kilometre Run scheduled to take place tomorrow with the theme 'Run for Peace & Innovation.' Addressing a press conference here, Rahul Sahai, Chairman, ICC Jammu, stated, 'This run is more than just a sporting event—it is a movement to position Jammu as a hub for peace, wellness, and a new frontier of innovation, IT, and startups. We are honoured to host this event with the support of dignitaries and the participation of youth, entrepreneurs, and changemakers.' Sports Minister Satish Sharma will flag off the run, he added. He said that the event will also be attended by Maj Gen Mukesh Bhanwala, GOC 26 Infantry Division, Devansh Yadav, Municipal Commissioner Jammu, Anuradha Gupta, Director General, Sports J&K, Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Debmalya Banerjee, Regional Director, ICC, Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Kiran Radurappa, CEO, Posspole, Bangalore, Vikas Gupta, Director, Tourism Jammu, Ajaz Qaiser, Director, Tourism, M M Madhavan, Director, Narayana Hospital. The run will commence from Jammu University Sports Complex followed by an energetic Zumba session. The 10-kilometre run will begin at 5:30 AM, and the 5-Kilometre will follow. He said that a prize distribution ceremony will be held at 7 AM and more than 400 participants, including students, youth, professionals, and innovators, are expected to join. Kiran Radurappa from Posspole Bangalore, shared several innovative ideas and invited youth to connect with him during the event. He expressed his commitment to guide young minds and support startup culture in Jammu. Debmalya Banerjee, Regional Director, ICC, highlighted the Chamber's impactful activities and legacy. Mandhana, Charani flatten England at Trent Bridge
Nottingham, June 28 (UNI) India Women launched their T20I series against England in emphatic fashion with a comprehensive 97-run victory, powered by skipper Smriti Mandhana's scintillating century and a clinical bowling performance that bundled out England Women for 113 in 14.5 overs. After electing to bat first, India posted an imposing 210 for 5 on the back of Mandhana's majestic 112 off 62 balls, her maiden century in T20 Internationals, which featured 15 elegant boundaries and three lofted sixes. Mandhana, who brought up her hundred with a glorious lofted extra-cover drive off Lauren Bell in the 16th over, dominated the innings with a blend of finesse and ferocity. Her innings earned a standing ovation from the Trent Bridge crowd, and the performance will be remembered as one of the finest in India Women's T20I history. The skipper received solid support from opener Shafali Verma (20 off 22), as the duo added 77 runs for the first wicket. Shafali struck three boundaries before falling to a miscued big shot off Em Arlott. Deepti returned excellent figures of 3-0-22-2, removing both Wyatt-Hodge and Tammy Beaumont (10), who was bowled after a brief resistance. Wicketkeeper Amy Jones managed just 1 before being stumped off Radha Yadav, who also accounted for Em Arlott (12). Alice Capsey (5), Sophie Ecclestone (1), and Lauren Filer (2) all fell cheaply, while Shree Charani wrecked the lower middle-order, claiming 4 for 12 in 3.5 overs — the best figures in the match.
