Rajinikanth enjoyed dancing to 'Chikitu' in Coolie, says Anirudh Ravichander: 'Can tell from the way he performed'
In a video released by Sun Pictures, Anirudh revealed that Rajinikanth experienced the song for the first time on set, during the shoot itself.
'Rajini sir has a practice where he doesn't listen to a song before the shoot, except for 'Hukum',' Anirudh said. 'This time he heard it only during the shoot, and from the way we see him perform, we can tell he enjoyed doing it.'
While the legendary actor may have enjoyed the track, Anirudh noted that it did pose some challenges. 'After the first day of shoot, he said he liked the song, but it would be difficult for him to dance to it, being his old and rugged style of dancing,' he added. 'When we saw the visuals, we were blown away. After 30–40 years, you can see Rajini sir in local tapori style.'
Anirudh also praised the creative team behind the song, especially director Lokesh Kanagaraj, whom he described as a fan of actor and filmmaker T Rajhendherr. He also lauded choreographer Sandy Master for making the sequence come alive. The energetic music video includes shots from 'Coolie' and features Anirudh, T Rajhendherr, and lyricist-singer Arivu.
'Coolie' stars Rajinikanth in the lead and is helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The action-packed entertainer also features Nagarjuna Akkineni, Upendra Rao, and Shruti Haasan. Aamir Khan is rumoured to appear in a cameo, while Pooja Hegde is set to light up the screen in a dance number.
Rajinikanth is also currently filming 'Jailer 2', the follow-up to his 2023 hit.

Last Updated: Director Lokesh Kanakaraj's action film 'Coolie', starring Rajinikanth, releases globally in over 100 countries on August 14. Hamsini Entertainment handles distribution. If one is to go by rumours doing the rounds in the industry, director Lokesh Kanakaraj's much awaited action entertainer 'Coolie', featuring Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead, may well reach audiences in over a 100 countries around the world when the film hits screens on August 14 this year! Hamsini Entertainment, a key player in international film distribution, is backing the film's global distribution. Having released over 130 films across languages worldwide, Hamsini Entertainment has a proven track record of taking Indian cinema to a global audience. Hamsini's recent ventures include the release of The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) starring Vijay in over 40 countries, and Devara, starring Jr. NTR, in more than 90 countries. Now, sources in the industry claim that with 'Coolie', Hamsini Entertainment is gearing up for their biggest release yet, targeting distribution in over a 100 countries, making it one of the most widespread international releases for an Indian film. Produced by Sun Pictures, Coolie has already made headlines by becoming the highest overseas procurement for a Tamil film to date. Apart from Rajinikanth, the film also stars stalwarts from the Indian film industry like Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir and Shruti Haasan. Anirudh has composed the music for the film marking his fourth consecutive film with director Lokesh Kanagaraj. Cinematography for the film is by Girish Gangadharan and editing is by Philomin Raj. The film is keenly awaited as it will feature actors Sathyaraj and Rajinikanth together after almost 38 years. The two were last seen together in the superhit Tamil film 'Mr Bharath', which was released in 1986 and in which Sathyaraj played Rajinikanth's father. Interestingly, Sathyaraj had turned down offers to act in some of Rajinikanth's earlier films like 'Enthiran' and 'Sivaji'. 'Coolie', which is Rajinikanth's 171st film, will revolve around gold smuggling. Interestingly, director Lokesh Kanakaraj has disclosed that 'Coolie' will be a stand alone film and not a part of his Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). First Published:

Coolie: Is Rajinikanth starrer violating IMAX rules after Aamir Khan's character poster unveiled? Find out
Superstar Rajinikanth is slated to hit the big screens this year with the movie Coolie, releasing on August 14, 2025. Recently, the makers unveiled a character poster featuring Aamir Khan, and it seems to have paved the way for new speculations regarding IMAX guidelines. Did the makers of Coolie violate IMAX rules? In a recent announcement, the makers of Coolie announced Aamir Khan with a character poster, revealing him to play Dahaa. However, in the same update, it was reported that the Rajinikanth starrer will be releasing in IMAX format as well. Although Sun Pictures have made the announcement, the IMAX corporation is yet to announce whether Coolie will be arriving on their screens. What makes it more interesting is the fact that War 2 is expected to be hitting IMAX screens all over and is clashing with the Rajinikanth starrer. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, War 2 makers have closed an exclusive deal with IMAX. In the agreement they had, no other films are said to hit the IMAX screens in India. While this deal is speculated to be in effect, it came as a surprise that Coolie makers mentioned the film to arrive on IMAX, including the official logo. Moreover, it is said that any film in association with a corporation is said to have a tag of 'Experience it in IMAX' or 'Filmed for IMAX.' However, the makers mentioned it as 'Watch it in IMAX,' likely going against the company's mandate. With such remarks being made, we'll have to wait and see what the makers of Coolie have to say about it. About Coolie Coolie is an upcoming action entertainer directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film, which is said to feature the superstar in a negative role, stars Nagarjuna Akkineni and Upendra Rao in pivotal roles. As Aamir Khan is making a cameo appearance, the film is said to feature him as Dahaa. Earlier, we exclusively reported at Pinkvilla that the Bollywood superstar will have a massy introduction scene and will appear near the film's climax. Furthermore, the movie also has an ensemble cast of actors, including Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Pooja Hegde (in a dance number), and many more.
