Chembur resident crashes rented BMW into dumper, dies
According to the Sewri police, Machra was the son of a real estate broker. He lived in Gurukrupa Terrace near Basant Park in Chembur and assisted his father in the business, along with his younger brother. On Thursday, he left home at around 9pm for a party in south Mumbai, in a BMW he had rented from a car rental platform.
When he left the party around 2am on Friday, he took the Atal Setu and proceeded towards Navi Mumbai instead of heading to his residence in Chembur, said Rohit Khot, senior police inspector, Sewri police station.
'Perhaps, he had wanted to go on a joy ride up to Ulwe and return to Chembur,' said Khot.
Machra had travelled around 8.1km on the northbound lane of Atal Setu and was driving at around 160 kmph when he crashed into the dumper headed towards Panvel.
'The impact of the tail-end crash was so severe that a tyre of the dumper burst and the heavy vehicle crashed into the guardrail,' said Khot. 'Fortunately, it didn't fall into the sea and its driver, Ankit Vishwaskarma, escaped with minor injuries.'
Machra was likely drunk when the accident occurred, said Khot. He was rushed to MGM Hospital in Vashi in an ambulance after the police was informed about the accident, said Deepali Dhate, deputy commissioner of police (port zone).
'At the hospital, he was declared dead on arrival,' said Dhate. 'We collected his blood sample and have sent it for analysis to check if he was drunk.'
Machra was later booked under sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 125 (a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and section 184 (driving dangerously) of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Rashly driven crane crushes traffic cop to death
A 41-year-old traffic police constable of Navi Mumbai police died after he was allegedly hit by a moving crane vehicle, on duty in the Mhape area of Navi Mumbai Thursday afternoon. Traffic cop Ganesh Patil was attached to the Mhape traffic unit and was maintaining traffic flow near Mahape bridge. According to the police sources, at around 12.30 pm the hanging iron hook of the hydra crane vehicle, which was being driven rashly by its operator, hit Patil, who fell down and came under its front wheels. Patil sustained serious injuries prompting his colleague policemen to rush him to Vashi civic hospital, where he was declared dead before admission. His body was sent for post-mortem examination. The crane driver Rajesh Gound was detainedand was handed over to the Turbhe MIDC police station which subsequently arrested him, said a police officer. He was charged him with relevant provisions of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. Police have sent his blood sample for tests, and their reports are awaited.

Hit by auto near Balewadi Phata, elderly man left to die at secluded spot by driver
Pune: After withdrawing cash from an ATM near Balewadi Phata, just 500 metres from a hospital, 63-year-old Gopal Wagh was crossing the road to return home when an autorickshaw hit him on Sunday afternoon. As a crowd began to gather, the autorickshaw driver, under the pretext of taking him to a hospital, drove him to Range Hills and abandoned him in a secluded area. Wagh's sons, who were searching for him, filed a missing person complaint at Baner police station later that night. He was found dead by police on Monday afternoon. Police registered an FIR under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence of an offence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections of the Motor Vehicles Act against the driver on Monday. It was all for nothing," said Amit Wagh (35), Gopal's son, who works as a software engineer. He said if the driver had left his father there in a hit-and-run case, the crowd might have helped him get admitted to a hospital. "I don't understand why nobody went with him in the autorickshaw. "We went through the footage from 10am on Monday at the police station till the afternoon, but couldn't locate him. Later that afternoon, we got a call from police saying a body was found, asking me to identify it. I went and it was my father," said Amit, who, along with his brother, performed the last rites of their father on Tuesday as the post-mortem and other formalities took place late till Monday night. Police said the senior citizen worked at a law firm in Indapur before he retired and came to Pune with his sons, who work as software engineers. "He was severely wounded in the accident. When people crowded around the autorickshaw and pressured the driver to take him to a hospital, he agreed. But instead of taking him to a hospital, he went to Range Hills. Police followed the autorickshaw through footage of different CCTV cameras in the area. Then our staff inspected the area and found the body in a secluded spot near an old bungalow. It is suspected that he died in the autorickshaw," Sawant said. Police said they could identify the number of his autorickshaw from the CCTV camera footage after he left Range Hills and drove towards Sangvi, where he rented a place. "He parked his auto and fled. His location has been traced to UP and our team has already left to nab him," Sawant said, adding that the cash Gopal Wagh withdrew was found on him.

Woman held for kidnapping 2 minor girls
Balasore: A 35-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly abducting two 12-year-old girls from Mayurbhanj's Karanjia area on Thursday. The girls were rescued near the accused, Sitamani Patra's, residence from a village under Khaira police station limits in Balasore district. The incident came to light after one of the girl's father filed a complaint. He said his daughter and her friend had gone to a nearby shop on Wednesday evening to buy noodles but didn't return. After a frantic search, they reportedly received a video call from the abductors warning them not to approach police. Police said the accused woman was upset with relations between the mother of one of the victims and Patra's husband, and planned the abduction to pressure them into ending contact. The families approached Karanjia police, who launched an investigation. Based on the video call and other leads, police intensified search operations to trace the victims and apprehend the accused. Police have continued manhunt to nab accomplices of the woman. Investigating officer, Balaram Maharana said the girls' statements were recorded under Section 183 of the BNSS. A case was registered under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for kidnapping. Efforts are on to identify and arrest other possible accomplices involved in the case.
