ABU DHABI (WAM) The Ministry of Culture (MoC) is participating in the 31st edition of the Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF), taking place in the Chinese capital from June 18 to 22, 2025. The UAE's presence reflects its ongoing commitment to advancing global cultural dialogue and deepening its strategic partnership with the People's Republic of China.Moc's participation comes as part of the national pavilion 'UAE Pavilion', inaugurated in the presence of Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, UAE Ambassador to China; Mubarak Al Nakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture; Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre; and Rashid Al Kous, Executive Director of the Emirates Publishers Association.The event saw wide participation from federal and local government entities, academic institutions, and Emirati publishing houses, aiming to showcase facets of the UAE's creative landscape and deepen cultural and intellectual exchange with the People's Republic of China.The UAE programme features a rich array of activities, including literary panels, traditional performances, children's reading and art workshops, and curated displays of Emirati publications. Visitors also learn about major national initiatives such as the Golden Visa recommendation service for creatives, the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, the 'Kalimah' translation project, and grant programs supporting publishing and translation. These efforts underscore the Ministry's strategic investment in intellectual and cultural development.A dedicated Emirati Chinese Archive within the pavilion celebrates the longstanding historical and cultural ties between the two nations, showcasing key moments of cooperation in publishing, translation, and the creative industries.Commenting on the UAE's participation, Mubarak Al Nakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, states: 'Our presence at the Beijing International Book Fair affirms the UAE's commitment to fostering cultural connectivity and creating meaningful international partnerships, particularly in Asia. Culture is a vital strategic bridge that promotes understanding, mutual respect, and collaboration between peoples.'He adds: 'We believe that supporting publishers and creatives is an investment in the future of knowledge and in building a well-read, culturally aware, and globally connected society. With this vision in mind, the Ministry of Culture has empowered writers through the National Grant Program for Culture and Creativity. To date, the program has supported more than 30 Emirati creatives in the fields of authorship and publishing, including books, magazines, and digital media. This reflects the Ministry's broader commitment to sustaining and advancing local cultural production.
Recognised as one of the world's premier literary events, the Beijing International Book Fair draws thousands of publishers, authors, and cultural professionals from across the globe. The event features a broad program of professional and public events, including the Chinese Book Award Ceremony, PubTech Conference, Artistic Publishing Forum, World Children's Book Forum, and Beijing International Illustration Forum, alongside specialised exhibitions such as the Beijing Picture Book Fair, International Art Book Fair, and Cookbook Fair.

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has reaffirmed its continued efforts to enhance and diversify its awareness campaigns and communication channels to effectively reach all stakeholders involved in tax implementation. This aims to strengthen engagement with taxpayers and beneficiaries across all emirates of the UAE, while highlighting the Authority's continuously expanding range of services. The FTA stated that over the past year and the first half of the current year, several innovative campaigns, programmes, and activities have been launched to meet the tax awareness needs of the business community and various segments of Emirati society. The FTA announced that it conducted 85 awareness activities during the first half of 2025, benefiting 28,000 participants, marking a 21% increase compared to 70 activities held during the same period in 2024. The increased number of workshops aims to ensure there are no gaps in tax-related knowledge. According to the Authority, 53 virtual events were conducted in the first half of 2025, compared to 43 in the same period in 2024, while 24 in-person events were held, down slightly from 27 events during the first half of last year. The FTA confirmed that it continues to advance its plans in support of the second cycle of the Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme. These efforts are focused on enhancing digital integration with relevant authorities, continuously improving users' digital experiences. The Authority also explained that its awareness activities, including its Customer Councils, which are held across all emirates, focus on organising consultative sessions and dialogues with representatives from the business community and stakeholders. These sessions are designed to gather input and suggestions regarding the FTA's initiatives and projects aimed at reducing unnecessary tax procedures, eliminating repetitive or redundant requirements, enhancing government integration, and promoting data sharing. Zahra Al Dahmani, Director of Taxpayer Services at the FTA, stated, 'As part of our ongoing efforts to diversify awareness tools and communication channels in line with current needs, we continue to engage the business community by incorporating their ideas and suggestions into the FTA's sustainable development plans. These efforts are aimed at maintaining the highest levels of efficiency, quality, and flexibility while simplifying and streamlining procedures.' She added, 'The FTA has launched new awareness campaigns and programmes to introduce its services and initiatives and has continued to expand its core awareness activities. Key initiatives introduced include the 'Tax Talks' workshops, which benefited 72 participants through three sessions; two workshops on 'Tax Certificates', which served 1,330 participants; six workshops on the 'EmaraTax' digital tax services platform, which attracted 2,044 participants; and two workshops on 'Tax Updates', with 1,824 participants during the first half of 2025.' Al Dahmani emphasised that the FTA's awareness efforts highlight the ongoing legislative and procedural developments in the tax system, as well as the various digital transformation projects launched by the Authority. These projects aim to accelerate service delivery, reduce paper-based processes, minimise documentation requirements, and provide more accessible and efficient services all with the goal of delivering tangible results in a short timeframe. Speaking on the occasion, His Highness said the Etihad Rail project is one of the most significant infrastructure undertakings in the UAE, with wide-ranging economic, social, and developmental impact. Etihad Rail – pride of the nation 'Etihad Rail is a vital economic artery that supports the UAE's journey to the future,' Sheikh Mohammed said. 'It is a key pillar in our vision to build an integrated transport network that strengthens the UAE's position as a leading logistics hub, facilitating the movement of people and goods.' He has been integral to our journey, witnessing the evolution of our network through its various phases: from the announcement of the 'Projects of the 50' in 2021 to the inauguration of the complete national railway network and the commencement of freight train operations in 2023. 'Today, we stand on the cusp of a transformative era in the UAE's transportation landscape and take immense pride in and deeply appreciate the support we have received for this national project. This is a project that drives us towards a brighter future by strengthening connectivity and economic integration across the UAE, thus, serving the nation's interests and enhancing its competitiveness.' Networking 11 cities and regions The passenger stations in Dubai and Fujairah will serve as key hubs within the national railway network once operations commence next year. The national project, developed to strengthen the connectivity between different regions of the UAE, is designed to offer citizens, residents, and visitors a fully integrated travel experience, built to the highest standards of comfort, reliability, and operational excellence. Once operational, the passenger service will connect 11 cities and regions, from Al Sila to Fujairah, linking key urban centres and communities across the emirates. The project reflects the UAE's commitment to unity, connectivity, and sustainability, while advancing the national drive toward net zero emissions by 2050. Etihad Rail trains will operate at speeds of up to 200 kmph, with the first four passenger stations located in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah. Each train is expected to accommodate up to 400 passengers and serve 36.5 million passengers annually by 2030.
