Motorcyclist Killed, Run Over By Trailer On PLUS Highway
SEREMBAN, June 29 (Bernama) -- A motorcyclist was killed when run over by a trailer lorry after falling from his high-powered machine at KM254.6 of the North-South Expressway heading north, here yesterday.
Seremban police chief ACP Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the 51-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene due to severe head injuries in the incident, which occurred at 4 pm.
'Initial investigations found that the victim was avoiding crashing into a four-wheel drive (4WD) Ford Ranger, driven by a 65-year-old man with a 54-year-old woman in the passenger seat, which suddenly braked.
'The victim, who was riding a BMW motorcycle, swerved to the right and hit the right rear-view mirror of the 4WD before falling into the right lane and being run over by the trailer,' he said in a statement here today.
Mohamad Hatta said another motorcyclist, who was riding behind the victim, was unable to brake in time and also crashed into the 4WD.
The 4WD driver and passenger, the second motorcyclist and the driver of the trailer did not suffer any injuries, he said.
He said the body was sent to the Rembau Hospital Forensic Department for a post-mortem, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the investigating officer, Insp Tiew Chuan Jie, at 014-9668399 or the nearest police station.

Avoid superstitious acts at grave, says UPSI student's family
JERTIH: The mother of Nurly Sahirah Azman, one of the students who died in the Gerik bus crash on June 9, has called on visitors to her daughter's grave to behave respectfully and refrain from superstitious acts. Kamariah Abdul Latif, 60, said the family had to put up a barrier around Nurly Sahirah's grave at the Tanah Perkuburan Islam Kampung Gong Pasir in Kerandang to curb such behaviour. "We put up the barrier because some visitors were taking soil and kissing the tombstone. Kamariah also reminded the public not to touch the handwritten Quran by Nurly Sahirah, which is kept in the family's house compound. A check by Bernama today found that people from various states, including Kedah, Pahang, Kuala Lumpur and Kelantan, continued to visit the family of Nurly Sahirah, nearly three weeks after the tragedy. Nurly Sahirah was among 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students who died when their bus was involved in an accident near Tasik Banding, Gerik, along the East-West Highway. Another 33 people, including the bus driver and three passengers in a Perodua Alza, were injured. Nurly Sahirah's brother, Mohd Najmuddin Azman, 28, has appealed to the public to respect the family's privacy. "Please give our parents a chance to rest." Najmuddin said the family has decided not to receive visitors from this Wednesday to Saturday. "The family home will also be closed to the public, and we hope for everyone's cooperation," he said when contacted today. He added that since Nurly Sahirah's death, their father Azman Mohamad, 63, and mother have not had proper rest.

64 Per Cent Of Commercial Vehicle Operators Fail Safety Audit
KOTA BHARU, June 29 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has found that 64 per cent of commercial vehicle operators audited during the Special Operation on Safety Audit System Guidelines (Ops Khas JISA) failed to meet mandatory safety requirements. Its director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the nationwide operation, which began on June 23, involved audits on 133 companies operating commercial vehicles. Of these, 85 companies failed to comply with JISA guidelines, while only 48 passed. 'The non-compliant companies comprised 43 lorry operators and 42 tour and express bus operators,' he said after attending JPJ's Setia Khas Assembly here today. Among the key violations were the failure to appoint occupational safety and health officers, lack of GPS installation in all vehicles, and poor GPS monitoring practices. Many companies also failed to record drivers' working hours, which must not exceed eight hours a day, and did not ensure a minimum 30-minute break every four hours of driving. He added that some companies had no safety action plans in place and did not display hotline numbers or the names of responsible officers on their vehicles for public complaints. 'The department will submit the list of non-compliant companies to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) for further action, including possible suspension or cancellation of operating licences.' he said. Aedy Fadly stressed that JPJ will not compromise on safety and will continue to take firm enforcement action as part of efforts to enhance road safety and uphold the integrity of the national transport system. -- BERNAMA

Ex-ticketing clerk claims trial to 10 counts of CBT involving RM114,630
KOTA BARU: A former bus ticketing clerk pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to 10 charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving ticket sales of RM114,630.80 at the Lembah Sireh Bus Terminal a decade ago. Bibi Kasiran Mohamad, 50, entered the plea on Sunday (June 29) after the charges were read before Judge Zulkifli Abllah. She is accused of allegedly failing to remit ticket sales proceeds ranging from RM7,000 to over RM18,000 per transaction to a bus company, between January and October 2015. The single mother, who was working at a ticketing counter at the terminal, was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison term of between one and 14 years, with caning, and a fine, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad appeared for the prosecution, while counsel Muhammad Khairul Azwan Azhan represented the accused. Earlier, Ahmad Faiz Fitri informed the court that while the prosecution was not offering bail due to the 10 charges against the accused, it proposed RM5,000 per charge if bail were to be considered. However, Muhammad Khairul Azwan pleaded for a lower sum, citing his client's age, the death of her husband in August last year, and her responsibility in caring for her ailing elderly parents. He added that she also suffers from age-related illnesses and a heart condition. "My client works at a kuih stall with a daily income of RM45. This is also her first offence. Therefore, I respectfully request the court to impose a reduced bail amount of RM15,000 for all charges combined," he submitted. The court subsequently allowed bail at RM18,000 for all the charges, with one surety, and fixed Aug 28 for case mention and submission of documents. -Bernama
