Veteran sports handicappers insist the only way to consistently beat the market is to focus on the specific situation, or 'spot,' for a team.
Many feel that it has proven to be a successful method of forecasting an edge that will outperform mathematical projections. However, some view narratives as much more noise than substance.
I believe we have such a scenario in the WNBA on Tuesday, with the Washington Mystics visiting the Chicago Sky as a three-point road favorite with a total of 156.5.
Chicago is coming off an emotional win over the Connecticut Sun, snapping a three-game skid, all blowouts.
Plus, Angel Reese recorded her first career triple-double.
Meanwhile, Washington's most recent game was an embarrassing 89-56 home loss to the Atlanta Dream. The Mystics mustered only 22 points in the second half and shot just 29.5 percent from the field in the game.
Given these scenarios, I believe the right approach is to back Washington to rebound and play with more focus and energy.

The Mystics are not an elite team, but they have demonstrated they are solid and could compete for a playoff spot. That's enough to view them as reliable in this spot.
I also think this edge in talent, effort and determination is most pronounced in the first half.
I expect the Sky to start flat off the big win.
Betting on the NBA?
Plus, Washington has a much better bench, and that could shine in the second quarter, which is when reserves usually play.
I have a 51-41-1 ATS record in this Post sports section. My next wager is Washington laying one point on the first-half spread.
THE PLAY: Mystics 1H Spread -1 (DraftKings)

Caps trade for a defenseman and add four players as the draft wraps up

On the second and final day of the NHL draft, the Washington Capitals selected four prospects and made a trade for an established player, bringing in defenseman Declan Chisholm from the Minnesota Wild. Saturday's trade doesn't rise to the level of the move they made on the second day of the draft last year, when they acquired goaltender Logan Thompson from Vegas, but Capitals General Manager Chris Patrick viewed it as an important depth move to position the Capitals for the start of free agency Tuesday. Chisholm, 25, is a restricted free agent who will need a new contract to remain with Washington.

Angel Reese is Selling Viral 'Mebounds' Shirt for $45

Angel Reese is Selling Viral 'Mebounds' Shirt for $45 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Initially used to scrutinize Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese for her struggles on offense, the phrase "Mebounds" may now end up earning her a significant amount of money. Advertisement The No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft out of LSU, who went on to become a WNBA All-Star in her rookie season, has been relentlessly mocked on social media for missing shots on offense but racking up rebounds off of those aforementioned missed shots. The phrase was coined by Bhen of Jeff Teague's "Club 520 Podcast" but has since been trademarked by Reese, who on Friday revealed that she is now selling "Mebounds" merchandise. The product line includes items such as hats, slides, beanies, hoodies and T-shirts, and as revealed by the Chicago Sun-Times, some of the proceeds will be going toward cyberbullying prevention. As seen on her website, the shirts come in a variety of colors and styles and even have different graphics on the front. The oversized T-shirt, which features the phrases "Mebounds" and "Anything That Comes Off That Board, It's Mine," also has a silhouette of Reese grabbing a rebound. Angel Reese's "Mebounds" Silhouette Oversized As listed on the website, this particular shirt is available in sizes small-3XL and is retailing for $45. Advertisement While it's unclear how much of the proceeds are going toward the cyberbullying prevention cause, Reese did open up on how difficult it is to be attacked online frequently. Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese (5) waits for play to Gonzales-Imagn Images 'We take social media lightly,' Reese said to the Chicago Sun Times. 'And people always say, 'Block the noise, block this, block that.' But it's not that easy.' Reese also confirmed that she made "six figures" in one day off the phrase. As for her on-court performance this year, Reese is averaging 11.7 points and 12.3 rebounds per game while shooting 39.1% from the field and 30.8% from deep. She and the Sky (4-11) will be taking on the Los Angeles Sparks (5-11) on Sunday in a game that will tip at 4 p.m. ET and air on ESPN.
