Derek Jeter is ‘elitist' for skipping Yankees Old-Timers' Day: Boomer Esiason
Derek Jeter isn't showing up, which has gotten WFAN hosts Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti a bit riled up.
'It's a little bit insulting … I think he should be there, he should be a part of it,' Esiason said on 'Boomer and Gio' on Tuesday. 'It seems elitist to me.'

There are more than 30 former Yankees participating, but 'The Captain' isn't one of them.
'Derek Jeter said that he doesn't want the fans to see him hit again at this age,' Esiason's co-host Giannotti said of Jeter's reasoning.

But all of the players in the game have gotten older since retiring, and the game has been being played for nearly 80 years in some form.
'Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio played in an Old-Timers' game together,' Esiason said. 'If those guys put a uniform back on then [Jeter] certainly can.'

Jeter, 51, last played in 2014.
The Hall of Famer was a 14-time All-Star, five-time World Series champ, five-time Silver Slugger and five-time Gold Glove winner.
Of course, he's not in the same condition as he was during his playing career, but Giannotti thinks that other players have to worry about that more than Jeter does.

'Derek Jeter's not gonna embarrass himself. I think he would put the uniform back on and look just like Derek Jeter when we last saw him,' Giannotti said, challenging Jeter's possible reasoning for not playing. 'He's in great shape, some of these other guys showing up are not — he is.'
And it's not only that Jeter isn't playing in the game, it's the fact that he's not attending whatsoever.
'Just show up, you don't have to put the uniform on if you don't want to,' Giannotti continued.
While Giannotti attempted to reason with Jeter's wishes, Esiason had one theme that kept returning to his mind with Jeter's attitude for the game.

'I just think, to me, he's the captain, he was the guy that was embraced by the fans and loved by the fans and still is to this very day,' he said. 'It just feels a little bit elitist, that's all.'
The WFAN hosts did note that if Jeter has something going on in his life that makes him unable to attend, that, of course, makes sense — but Esiason especially is not buying the rest of the act.

Aaron Judge injury update: How severe is the elbow issue?
The New York Yankees could be without superstar slugger Aaron Judge for a bit as he tends to a right elbow injury. Yankees manager Aaron Boone cemented his worry on Saturday with Judge's condition that knocked him out of playing in the team's afternoon tilt at home against the Philadelphia Phillies. 'I'm obviously concerned, but we'll wait and see, read the imaging and hopefully have more [information] later today,' Boone said, per Bill Ladson. Judge apparently sustained the elbow injury in a Tuesday game against the Toronto Blue Jays but played on through the week despite it. However, Ladson noted that Friday's Phillies game showed issues with him throwing the ball after an off-day on Thursday was hoped to ease any lingering pain. As Boone noted, imaging will show the extent of any elbow damage. We'll keep you updated once we hear more. Aaron Judge Scratched From Yankees Lineup, Sent For Imaging Of His Right Elbow
Yankees star Aaron Judge was out of the lineup Saturday against Philadelphia and was sent for imaging of his right elbow, a worrying development for a team that has been sliding down the standings for two months. "Obviously concerned," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. "We'll wait and see as they read the imaging." Boone wouldn't speculate whether the injury involved Judge's ulnar collateral ligament. "Hopefully it's something that is manageable and we can get through," Boone said. A two-time AL MVP, Judge leads the major leagues with a .342 batting average and 1.160 OPS. He has 37 home runs and 85 RBIs for a New York team that opened a seven-game AL East lead by late May but started Saturday a season-high 5 1/2 games back of first-place Toronto. Judge winced at Toronto on Tuesday after catching Alejandro Kirk's seventh-inning fly in the right-field corner and throwing to second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. as Dante Bichette tagged up and went from second to third. Judge was seen by a YES Network camera clenching his right hand in a fist. "He had a throw in Toronto where it zinged him, it hurt," Boone said. Judge was a designated hitter the following day in Wednesday's series finale, which Boone said then was planned. He was in right field for Friday's series-opening 12-5 loss to Philadelphia, then was out of the lineup for the second time this season. "Felt like he was fine on the off day and then just last night was really dealing with it. He couldn't really throw well from the outfield," Boone said. Boone said Yankees team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad was to read the imaging Saturday. Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
