Dead dogs, cats and birds found on Penang Hill as PHC lodges police report
According to Free Malaysia Today (FMT), PHC general manager Cheok Lay Leng said the carcasses of seven dogs, three cats and five birds were found this morning, scattered in open areas and spotted by members of the public.
'There might be more. We are still looking. We found food spread along jeep track and a few locations,' he was quoted as saying.
'We suspect the main targets are the stray dogs. There have been claims by hikers and visitors in recent weeks that they were bitten by strays.'
Cheok said PHC will also file formal complaints with the veterinary services department and the wildlife and national parks department (Perhilitan) on Tuesday.
The agency is also conducting its own internal investigation.
Earlier today, Penang Hill posted on its official Facebook page that the animals were believed to have been poisoned.
'Using poison to eliminate stray animals is unacceptable and is punishable under the Penal Code (Act 574) and/or Animal Welfare Act 2015 (Act 772) with imprisonment, a fine, or both,' the post stated.

Crash on Sarawak's Pan Borneo Highway kills one, injures two
BINTULU, July 7 — An accident involving two vehicles on the Pan Borneo-Tatau road near Simpang Sangan yesterday evening claimed the life of a 30-year-old man and left two others injured. The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) identified the deceased as Mohammad Norazfarizdwan Iqbal Inai, who was driving a Toyota Vios. A team of six firefighters from the Tatau fire station was dispatched to the location following a distress call received at 7.06pm. In a statement, Tatau police chief DSP Jame Reis said preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred when the driver of a Perodua Kembara, who was in the left lane and attempting to switch to the right, was hit by a Toyota Vios travelling straight in the right lane. 'As a result of the collision, the Toyota Vios lost control and slammed into a road barrier at the P-Turn junction. 'The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Tatau Fire and Rescue Department,' he said. Medical personnel from the Tatau clinic later confirmed that Mohammad Norazfarizdwan died at the scene. The driver of the Kembara and a passenger sustained injuries and were first treated at the Tatau clinic before being referred to Nyabau Hospital in Bintulu for further medical attention. The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Jame reminded motorists to always exercise caution while driving and to comply with all traffic regulations to avoid such incidents. Fifth body found in Sarawak's Belawai boat tragedy as SAR enters second day
TANJUNG MANIS, July 7 — The second day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation for victims of the tragic boat capsize off Pantai Belawai yesterday brought another heartbreaking discovery, as rescuers found the body of a young boy. According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the body was recovered at around 6pm, about 300 metres downstream from the SAR operations post. The current tally stands at five confirmed dead, five still missing, and seven rescued. Among the deceased already identified are two women and three children. All five missing persons are adult men. The incident last Saturday involved a fibre boat carrying 17 Indonesian nationals from the Kampung Belawai fishermen's jetty to a plantation workers' jetty at the Pelita Zone. The SAR operation resumed early yesterday morning involving personnel from multiple agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Civil Defence Force, Sarawak Rivers Board, People's Volunteer Corps, Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit, and local villagers. Specialied teams such as the Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) and K9 Unit were deployed, with K9 dog Bella assisting in the search efforts. The search area was widened to a five-kilometre radius, and operations were divided into upstream and downstream sectors for better coordination. Six missing family members found dead in Proton Iswara submerged in Kedah river
KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — Six family members who had been reported missing since Saturday were found today inside a Proton Iswara submerged in Sungai Korok. The bodies were discovered during a search operation and are currently being retrieved by firefighters from the Jitra Fire and Rescue Station, Harian Metro reported. The victims included a married couple and their four children, aged between six months and nine years old. Grieving relatives were seen in tears as the bodies were recovered one by one from the vehicle. Previous reports said a woman had lodged a police report after her brother, sister-in-law, and their children failed to return home on Saturday. The woman, Nur Adliah Shuhada Ishak, in her twenties, said her brother Mohd Azim Ezzat Ishak, 32, had come to stay overnight at her house in Taman Aman with his family. She said her brother, who worked as a security guard and lived in Jerlun, often visited and usually left early in the morning before heading to work. However, this time they never returned home, prompting her to alert the authorities about their disappearance.
