Fifth body found in Sarawak's Belawai boat tragedy as SAR enters second day
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the body was recovered at around 6pm, about 300 metres downstream from the SAR operations post.
The current tally stands at five confirmed dead, five still missing, and seven rescued. Among the deceased already identified are two women and three children. All five missing persons are adult men.
The incident last Saturday involved a fibre boat carrying 17 Indonesian nationals from the Kampung Belawai fishermen's jetty to a plantation workers' jetty at the Pelita Zone.
The SAR operation resumed early yesterday morning involving personnel from multiple agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Civil Defence Force, Sarawak Rivers Board, People's Volunteer Corps, Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit, and local villagers.
Specialied teams such as the Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) and K9 Unit were deployed, with K9 dog Bella assisting in the search efforts.
The search area was widened to a five-kilometre radius, and operations were divided into upstream and downstream sectors for better coordination.
The operation was temporarily suspended at 6.40pm yesterday and will continue today. — The Borneo Post

'She received a parcel containing household items on June 28 and was then asked to provide feedback. 'The suspect also requested her e-wallet account number to deposit a so-called RM8 credit before assigning her tasks such as clicking on certain links that were claimed to lead to other rewards,' he said when contacted by Kosmo! today. Azli said that between July 1 and 3, the teacher made several transfers to the scammer, supposedly as part of the tasks and for penalties due to delays in completing them. He added that last Friday, the victim was instructed to transfer an additional RM75,000. 'In desperation, the victim sought urgent loans through two agents who provided links. She then made deposit payments into five different bank accounts, but the loan money was never disbursed,' he said.

School van in NSE crash rear-ended trailer stalled by engine trouble, Johor cops confirm
KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 — Police have confirmed that an accident involving 21 schoolchildren on the North-South Expressway near the Bandar Dato Onn exit yesterday occurred when the school van they were travelling in rear-ended a trailer that had stopped due to engine problems. Johor Baru North District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh, said the incident was reported at 6.23pm, and a video of the crash had since gone viral on social media, according to a report published in Buletin TV3 today. 'Investigations revealed the accident happened around 2pm, involving a school van driven by a 46-year-old local man. The van was travelling from the Bandar Dato Onn exit towards northern Johor Baru when it collided with the rear of a trailer that had stopped in the lane due to engine trouble. 'As a result of the collision, the van driver and two of the 21 schoolchildren on board sustained injuries and were treated at Sultan Ismail Hospital. 'The 32-year-old trailer driver was uninjured,' he said in a statement last night. The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for failing to control a vehicle, leading to an accident. Earlier, media reports stated that the school van driver was injured after being trapped in the driver's seat following the collision with the trailer. The victim was successfully extricated by Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) personnel within 30 minutes before being sent to hospital.

Cyberjaya student murder: Male suspect to be charged under Section 302, says Selangor police chief
KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 — A male suspect in the murder of university student Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara in Cyberjaya is expected to be charged soon under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said. The charge was initially expected to be brought before the Sepang magistrates' court at 8.30am today, according to earlier reports. However, Sepang police chief Norhizam Bahaman later confirmed that the case has been postponed to a date yet to be determined, according to a report in Free Malaysia Today. Three suspects — a man and two women aged 19 and 20 — were arrested between June 26 and June 27 in Johor Baru and Gemencheh, Negeri Sembilan, following the discovery of Maniishapriet's body. The victim, a student at the University of Cyberjaya, was found dead in her condominium unit by a friend on June 24. She had been living with five housemates, who had returned to their hometowns for the holidays on June 21. Police said all three suspects were known to the victim and confirmed there were no signs of forced entry into her unit. An autopsy determined that she died from blunt force trauma to the head and showed no evidence of sexual assault. Authorities also revealed that the male suspect used Maniishapriet's debit card to withdraw money from multiple ATMs shortly after her death. Her laptop, mobile phone, and some cash were also reported missing from the unit. The remand orders for all three suspects have been extended until July 1
