Political vendetta, says Rohit Pawar on chargesheet
Pune: NCP (SP) MLA and Sharad Pawar's grandnephew Rohit Pawar termed the inclusion of his name in the Enforcement Directorate's chargesheet in the alleged Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) scam as "vendetta politics" by the govt and said he was ready for the legal battle. The ED filed the chargesheet naming Rohit in connection with the purchase of Kannad cooperative sugar factory in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar by Baramati Agro Ltd, owned by Rohit and his family members, through an auction. Before naming the Karjat-Jamkhed MLA in the chargesheet, the ED recorded his statement in the past. In the alleged MSCB scam, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai police had registered an FIR in August 2019 on the charges of fraudulent sale of the sugar factory by the directors of MSCB then at a throwaway price. Reacting to the ED's action, Rohit Pawar on Saturday said, "The FIR of this case does not have my name, but the ED kept all the 97 people named in the FIR aside and started a probe against me. Now, it has also mentioned my name in the chargesheet." He said, "Out of those 97 people named in the FIR, some are associated with the BJP or the Ajit Pawar-led NCP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. I am being singled out by the ED. This is nothing but vendetta politics." After filing of the chargesheet, Rohit said he was ready for the legal battle and would not succumb to pressure. "Others may have run to join govt, but I will hold my ground and fight it in the court of law. I am one of the few MLAs raising public issues in the assembly, and the govt is using Central agencies to silence me. I will not bow before Delhi," he said.

Man swept away after falling into overflowing drain
Lucknow: A 32-year-old man fell in an overflowing drain and was swept away in Thakurganj on Saturday morning, sparking anger and protests from residents who alleged negligence by civic authorities. Despite hours of rescue operations by NDRF, SDRF, and Suez India teams, the man could not be traced till late evening. The incident took place around 7am when Suresh, a father of three who runs a paan shop, was heading to work. His wife, Renu, said he slipped on a broken slab covering the drain and was quickly swept away by the gushing rainwater. Locals claimed that they alerted the authorities immediately, but the police arrived nearly two hours after the incident, and the municipal corporation team showed up after three hours. Residents blocked the road in protest, demanding immediate action and accountability. Suresh's wife said the family had complained twice about the broken slab earlier, but no repairs were made. "We paid from our own pocket to construct a part of the drain in front of our house," she said. Chief engineer Mahesh Chandra Verma said that teams of LMC, SDRF, and police were deployed as soon as the authorities came to know about the incident. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like So sánh mức trượt giá: Hợp đồng tương lai (CFD) Bitcoin vs Ethereum IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo SDRF commandant Satish Kumar said that a 15-member team was deployed to assist in rescue operation. Kumar added that SDRF unit was leading deep-tracing and access operations in narrower and risk-prone sections of the drain.

ED names Rohit Pawar in MSCB scam chargesheet
Rohit Pawar (File photo) MUMBAI: ED recently filed a chargesheet against NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar in a money laundering case connected to the Rs 25,000-crore Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) scam. This despite the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police filing a second closure report in the case, which ED has challenged in court through an intervention application. EOW had previously given a clean chit to all involved parties, including NCP neta Ajit Pawar and his nephew Rohit. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar serves as the governing alliance partner, while Rohit remains in opposition. In 2023, ED had filed a chargesheet against Jarandeshwar Sugar Mills, which is linked to Ajit Pawar in the MSCB scam for the similar offence. Although the chargesheet mentioned Ajit Pawar's connection to the company, he was not named as an accused. Rohit said: "EOW itself for the second time had filed a closure report. I'm not even named as an accused there, yet ED misuses it to selectively target me while absolving those who joined BJP. This is a legal anomaly apart from being politically motivated, and we will fight it. The ED officers are not at fault as they have to report to someone and need to obey orders given by someone at top." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 코인 투자금 300만원 있다면 '이렇게'해라 나스닥터 더 알아보기 Undo ED had submitted the intervention application in court last year, challenging the closure report on the grounds that it would adversely affect their case as it was based on the EOW's FIR. Last year, ED had recorded Rohit's statement in the case and later attached the assets of Kannad Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd valued at Rs 50 crore.
