Delhi CM proposes language promotion to boost art and culture of different states in Delhi
The objective of the meeting was to enrich the city's cultural landscape and to involve all sections of society in cultural activities.
According to Gupta, the department must take its initiatives beyond designated locations to enhance public participation. She directed officials to ensure that regional festivals celebrated in Delhi include artists from the respective states, as this would help generate greater public interest in these events.
The CM also stated that efforts will be made to explore possibilities for teaching non-Hindi languages to children, enabling them to understand the social and cultural identities of other states. She instructed officials to prepare a detailed report to support the promotion of India's diverse languages in the capital.
'Delhi is not merely the capital city but also a reflection of the country's cultural identity,' she said. 'We want the art and culture of various states to reach every street and for every individual to feel connected to it.'
She called for events such as women's art exhibitions, artist camps, music and dance festivals, theatre performances, and religious celebrations like Chhath Puja and Durga Puja to be organised across the city to increase public participation. 'While the art and culture department has long promoted Delhi's cultural heritage, its reach must now be expanded,' she said.
Student Exchange Programme also proposed
The CM also proposed a 'Student Exchange Programme' with other states. This, she said, would give children the opportunity to learn about different cultures and help foster mutual understanding and harmony. She added, it would significantly strengthen nation's unity in diversity.

The Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday approved a new set of measures aimed at offering record cash rewards and government jobs to athletes, along with digital upgrades in government schools. The decisions were cleared at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. After the meeting, Sports and Education Minister Ashish Sood confirmed that Delhi will now offer the highest cash prizes in the country to international medal-winning athletes, with Olympic gold winners set to receive ?7 crore. "These figures make Delhi the most rewarding state in India for sportspersons," Mr Sood said in the press briefing. Cash Rewards Increased for International Athletes: Under the revised Mukhyamantri Khel Protsahan Yojana, Olympic and Paralympic gold medalists will now receive Rs 7 crore. Silver and bronze medalists will get Rs 5 crore and Rs 3 crore respectively. The government has also raised rewards for other international competitions. Gold medalists at the Asian and Para Asian Games will receive Rs 3 crore, silver Rs 2 crore, and bronze Rs 1 crore. In the Commonwealth and Para CWG categories, winners will get Rs 2 crore for gold, Rs 1.5 crore for silver, and Rs 1 crore for bronze. At the national level, medalists will receive Rs 11 lakh (gold), Rs 5 lakh (silver), and Rs 3 lakh (bronze). Athletes will also be eligible for financial support up to Rs 5 lakh for training and medical insurance of the same amount. For elite-level sportspersons, support will go up to Rs 20 lakh, with insurance coverage of Rs 10 lakh. Those competing in events recognised by the International Olympic Committee will receive up to Rs 2 lakh to cover travel, accommodation, meals, and tournament registration fees. Government Jobs Based on Medal Performance: The Cabinet also approved a policy to offer government jobs to medal-winning athletes. Athletes winning Olympic gold or silver, or Asian Games gold, will be eligible for Grade A posts in the Delhi government. Those with Olympic bronze, Asian Games silver or bronze, and CWG or Para Games gold and silver will qualify for Grade B roles. Other international medalists will be considered for Grade C positions. "This is a landmark step towards cultivating a robust sports culture in the city and empowering young athletes to dream big," said Minister Sood. "The government will closely monitor the implementation to ensure Delhi becomes a premier sporting hub." Laptops and Labs for Government School Students: In the education sector, the Cabinet cleared a Rs 50 crore project aimed at improving digital access in government schools. Starting in the 2025-26 academic year, all meritorious Class 11 students will receive free laptops. In addition, the government will roll out fully equipped computer labs in two phases, 175 labs in Phase I, followed by another 175 in Phase II during 2026-27. The focus will be on 544 schools operating across 350 buildings, many of which currently run in double shifts and lack adequate digital facilities. Each lab will be equipped with 40 desktop computers and essential digital learning tools. A monitoring unit will oversee rollout and ensure timelines are met.

Promising government jobs to athletes who bring laurels to the nation, the Delhi government on Tuesday announced a significant hike in cash awards for medal winners, with rewards for Olympic and Paralympic gold medallists being increased to Rs 7 crore from the current Rs 3 crore. To bridge the disparity between Delhi and other states in supporting athletes, the Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Gupta, approved a revision of the cash incentives under the newly-launched Mukhyamantri Khel Protsahan Yojana, Transport Minister Ashish Sood told mediapersons. While Olympic and Paralympic Games silver medallists will receive Rs 5 crore, bronze medallists will get Rs 3 crore. Similarly, Asian and Para Asian Games gold medallists will be given Rs 3 crore, while silver medallists will get Rs 2 crore and bronze medallists Rs 1 crore. Similar rewards were also announced for Commonwealth and Para Commonwealth Games medallists as well as National and Para National Games medallists. Also, while athletes representing Delhi nationally or internationally will receive an annual financial support of Rs 20 lakh, a support of Rs 5 lakh each was announced for students of classes 6 to 12 who perform at the national or state levels. Further, the Cabinet approved a government job reservation structure for medal winners. Under this, Group A jobs will be provided to for Olympic gold and silver medallists as well as Asian Games gold medallists. Group B jobs will be provided to Olympics bronze medallists, Paralympic medallists, Asian Games silver and bronze medallists, Para Asian gold medallists as well as Commonwealth Games gold and silver medallists. Group C jobs, on the other hand, will be provided to Para Asian Games silver and bronze medallists, Commonwealth Games bronze medallists, and Para Commonwealth Games medallists. 'These decisions mark a new era for Delhi's youth… Whether it's standing tall on the Olympic podium or excelling in the classroom, the government is committed to giving every child the resources and recognition they deserve,' said Sood. Targeting the education sector, the Cabinet cleared the Mukhyamantri Digital Education Scheme to award free laptops. 'As many as 1,200 meritorious students of Class 10 will be awarded free high-performance laptops with i7 configuration. The total budget outlay is Rs 8 crore,' Sood said. Further, the government approved the establishment of 175 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) labs in government schools, each with 40 computers. Underlining the need for ICT infrastructure in schools, Sood said, 'Not a single functional ICT lab currently exists across Delhi's 1,074 government schools.' The new labs will be built according to CBSE-approved standards and aim to bridge a long-standing infrastructure gap, he added.

Manipur: 5 militants killed in factional clash between Chin-Kuki rebel outfits
IMPHAL: At least five militants were killed in a fierce factional gunfight between two newly formed Chin-Kuki rebel outfits in the dense forests of Deiveijang village near Longpi, under Nungba Police Station in Manipur's Noney district on Tuesday morning, officials confirmed. Officials believe the gunfight was the result of rising tensions and competition between the two factions over territorial and organisational control. (Representational image) A police official said the incident site lies approximately 50 kilometres south of Nungba Police Station and is located deep inside the jungle. 'It is not a motorable road and even there is no mobile signal in the place. We also have no adequate details, but a team has been deployed to the spot,' the official told HT. People familiar with the matter said the clash occurred between cadres of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) and the Chin Kuki Mizo Army (CKMA), both of which are not signatories to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the Government of India. The deceased militants have been identified by the people familiar with the matter as Alex, Seiboi, Pongba, Ringo, and Rambo, though authorities have yet to confirm which group the deceased belonged to. A person aware of the matter said, 'Both UKNA and CKMA are recently formed groups and are mainly composed of armed elements from the Chin-Kuki community. Their operations are spread across the hill districts of Manipur and extend to parts of the Indo-Myanmar border.' Officials believe the gunfight was the result of rising tensions and competition between the two factions over territorial and organisational control. 'There has been a consistent tussle for dominance between these non-SoO groups. The situation has worsened ever since UKNA was allegedly involved in the assassination of the deputy commander-in-chief of the Kuki National Army (KNA) on June 30,' an officer said on condition of anonymity. The slain KNA leader, a member of a group that is a signatory to the SoO pact, was reportedly gunned down by UKNA cadres, sparking unrest and intensifying rifts within the broader Chin-Kuki militant landscape. Security agencies have since stepped up surveillance and movement tracking in and around the incident area, but no formal statement has yet been issued by either the Manipur Police or central paramilitary forces regarding the deaths or any ongoing counter-operations. As of Tuesday evening, the situation in Deiveijang village and surrounding forested areas remained tense.
