Tribal ministry official reviews welfare schemes in Paderu
Section Officer, Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Aditya Ghosain, visited various places in Paderu mandal of Alluri Sitharama Raju district to review the implementation of Central Government welfare schemes aimed at the development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), on Sunday.
Mr Aditya Ghosain inspected coffee plantations in Modapalli, and interacted with local tribal farmers and asked them about the income generated through cultivating coffee and pepper. The farmers informed him that they earn around ₹1 lakh per acre annually from these crops. He also visited a multi-purpose community building constructed at a cost of ₹60 lakh in Munthamamidi village, in Vanugupalli Panchayat and enquired with the officials on how the building was being used by the people.
Later, he toured some PVTG villages near Sappiputtu and Modapalli panchayats and reviewed the housing units being built under the Pradhan Mantri JANMAN Scheme. He expressed satisfaction with the construction quality and advised beneficiaries to complete their homes as per the sanctioned specifications and move in at the earliest. He also checked the bills submitted by beneficiaries who had completed their houses. The officer also inspected the Anganwadi centres in the villages. He directed the authorities to intensify awareness programmes about the PM JANMAN schemes and other programmes. He later enquired about the issue of Aadhaar cards, bank accounts, Ayushman Bharat health cards and sanction of PM JANMAN housing units.
ITDA Assistant Project Officer M. Venkateswara Rao, Tribal Welfare Department AE Durgaprasad and others were present.

He assured that the Centre is releasing funds under the PM Janman housing scheme and advised beneficiaries to complete construction quickly and move into their new homes. He also enquired about the bills and expenditures related to completed houses. Anganwadi buildings in Sappiputtu and Modapalli villages were also inspected. Aditya emphasised the need to raise awareness about the PM Janman schemes and DAI Juga programmes among the tribal population. ITDA assistant project officer M Venkateswara Rao, Tribal Welfare Department AE Durgaprasad, TRICOR assistants N Sitaramaiah, PMU officer Rajesh, and other officials accompanied him during the visit.

Revision of Bihar electoral rolls: Congress says will oppose exercise legally, politically
NEW DELHI: As the EC began its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral rolls, the Congress on Sunday said it will oppose the move legally, politically, and on all fronts. The move invited scathing criticism from the Opposition parties as the EC on Saturday said around 2.93 crore of 7.89 crore voters, or about 37% of the electorate, will have to submit proof of their eligibility. Speaking with this newspaper, Congress leader Praveen Chakravartyquestioned the methodology adopted by the EC to ascertain that 37% of the Bihar electorate will have to re-register. 'How did they get the figure of 37%? This means they have the electoral roll of 2003 in a machine-readable format. Otherwise, it's impossible to analyse and come up with the figure. The Congress has been demanding the Maharashtra electoral rolls for a long time. If they have the 2003 rolls, why are they not showing us the 2024 Maharashtra voter rolls?' said Chakravarty, a member of EAGLE, an eight-member Congress panel tasked with looking into polls. He also pointed out that the EC had mooted a proposal on March 8 for electoral roll cleaning using Aadhaar, which, while not perfect, is a more viable alternative solution than an intensive voter revision in Bihar. 'Why did the EC abandon that to suddenly announce an SIR three months after the Aadhaar proposal?' he asked. The EC's move on June 24, requiring all existing voters who were not on the 2003 rolls to provide proof of their and their parents' citizenship, has also sparked concerns of disenfranchisement and exclusion of the poor and marginalised from voter rolls. 'If I was a voter in 2024 or 2019, that doesn't mean I am a voter now. I have to re-register. Now, they are saying I have to prove my veracity as a voter and prove date and place of birth. Why am I guilty until proven innocent?' he said. Chakravarty also said the EC has come up with arduous rules for providing birth certificates of voters and their parents, depending on the year of birth. Besides Union and state government officials will now dictate who has correct documents and who doesn't, thus dictating who gets to vote in the upcoming Bihar assembly polls.

Thousands turn up for mega e-khata mela, 677 get documents on the spot
BENGALURU: During the e-khata Mela and door-to-door e-khata distribution programme organised by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the revenue department in Byatarayanapura on Sunday, over 4,000 tokens were distributed and 1,679 applications were processed, of which 677 applicants received their final e-Khatas on the spot. With more citizens still awaiting service, the mela will continue on Monday (June 30). Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar stressed the government's commitment to clean governance. 'No citizen should have to pay a bribe to obtain their property records. This government has come to your doorstep to protect your property,' he said. Highlighting the importance of digitisation, he stated that property records across BBMP limits are being scanned and corrected. 'Just like Aadhaar gives a unique identity to individuals, we will assign a unique identifier to every property,' he added. Shivakumar also announced that the e-khata campaign will run throughout July, covering all BBMP wards. 'Get your e-khata and protect your property from fraud. Officers and workers will assist you,' he told people. As thousands turned up at the mega e-khata mela, many citizens faced difficulties due to long queues, delays in processing and some not bringing the required documents. Several applicants had to return without completing the registration as they were unaware of the specific papers needed for the e-Khata process. A property owner complained about the time taken for the registration. 'It has almost been an hour now and I am still waiting because they said that there is some problem with the server,' he said.
