Hulu Langat flood mitigation project enters detailed design phase

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor State Legislative Assembly received an update on the progress of the Hulu Langat Flood Mitigation Project Phase 2, which has now entered the detailed design phase.
State Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim confirmed that the project will proceed to land acquisition and utility relocation once the design is finalised, with physical construction expected to commence in 2027.
The project spans multiple areas, including Kajang town, Kampung Sungai Serai, Kampung Sungai Lui, Kampung Dusun Tua, Taman Sri Nanding, Taman Sri Jelok, and Kampung Sungai Kantan. Key components involve river deepening, embankment construction, water gate installation, pump systems, and water retention ponds.
Datuk Izham provided these details in response to an oral question from Datuk Johan Abd Aziz (BN-Dusun Tua) regarding the status of the flood mitigation plan. The initiative falls under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and includes Phase 2, Package 1 of the Sungai Langat Flood Mitigation Plan in Hulu Langat District, backed by a RM512 million budget allocation. - Bernama

The Prime Minister said that Asean is now being confronted with a new reality, where trade barriers such as tariffs are used as an instrument for geopolitical rivalry. 'I, therefore, urge even closer alignment between Asean's foreign and economic policy tracks. 'Our foreign and economic ministers must move in concert in facing challenges,' said Anwar during his opening remarks around the 58th Asean Foreign Ministers (AMM) meeting here on Wednesday (July 9). Anwar also said trade barriers are now being used to pressure and isolate certain countries. 'Across the world, tools once used to generate growth are now wielded to pressure, isolate and contain. 'Tariffs, exports, restrictions and investment barriers have now become the sharpened instruments of geopolitical rivalry,' said Anwar. Anwar touched down in Kuala Lumpur at 3am today after returning from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil following a week-long tour that covered Italy and France. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to attend the AMM after arriving in KL on Thursday (July 10) morning.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (pic) led his Asean counterparts to the meeting, which took place ahead of the official opening ceremony by Anwar. Present were Brunei's Second Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Setia Erywan Yusof; Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn; Indonesia's Foreign Minister Sugiono; Laos Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane. Joining them were Philippines Foreign Secretary, Ma Theresa P. Lazaro; Singapore Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan; Thailand Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa; and Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son. Timor-Leste Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister Bendito dos Santos Freitas also attended the meeting, in accordance with the country's current status as observer to the regional bloc. Asean Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn was also present at the 30-minute meeting. The ongoing 58th AMM and related meetings are being held under Malaysia's Asean Chairmanship for 2025 with the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'.
