BJ Medical College student from Rajasthan dies in Ahmedabad plane crash
The deceased student, Manav Bhadu, was a resident of Pilibanga town in Rajasthan's Hanumangarh district. He had been studying at the medical college in Ahmedabad since August 2024.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Hanumangarh, Janesh Tanwar confirmed the identity of the victim and stated that his last rites would be performed today at his residence.
Speaking to ANI, the official stated, '19-year-old Manav Bhadu, a resident of Pilibanga town, died in the Ahmedabad plane crash. He was studying in the medical college in Ahmedabad from August 2024. When the plane crash happened, he was present on the college premises. His last rites will be performed today at his residence...'
Meanwhile, the collection of DNA samples from the family members of the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash is ongoing to help identify the bodies.
Samples from over 250 people have already been collected in the massive identification effort. The victims' identification relies entirely on DNA results, as the bodies were charred beyond recognition.
The Central government has constituted a high-level multi-disciplinary committee for examining the causes leading to the crash of the Air India Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport (London) on June 12, that left 241 people dead.
The Committee will be headed by the Home Secretary and will include representatives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Indian Air Force and Aviation experts.
The committee will assess the emergency response of the various stakeholders, including rescue operations and coordination among them. It will also suggest policy changes, operational improvements and training enhancements required to prevent such occurrences and handle post-crash incident situations.
'A High Level Multi-disciplinary Committee is constituted for examining the causes leading to the crash of the Air India Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport (London) on June 12, 2025. The Committee will examine the existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued to prevent and handle such occurrences and suggest comprehensive guidelines for dealing with such instances in the future,' an order issued by the Civil Aviation Ministry read.
The AI-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aeroplane bound for London's Gatwick had crashed shortly after it took off from the Ahmedabad International Airport on June 12. The airline said only one out of the 242 people on board the aircraft survived the crash.
The Tata Group has announced a compensation of Rs one crore for the families of each person who lost their lives in the crash. (ANI)

A father-son duo in Gujarat's Mehsana duped a businessman out of Rs 21.65 lakh with the help of a water seller posing as a fake IAS officer. The fraudsters allegedly concocted a story about a Rs 300 crore seizure during an Income Tax raid to swindle the police have arrested the fake IAS officer, while the father and son remain on the to the police, Surat-based Jayantibhai and his son Kaushik Patel befriended local businessman Dinesh Patel. Over time, they exploited his trust by claiming that an Income Tax raid had been conducted at their residence and that Rs 300 crore had been seized. They falsely claimed the funds could only be recovered through court proceedings and asked Dinesh Patel to lend them money to hire a lawyer. To strengthen their deception, the duo enlisted the help of Arpit, alias Rishan Reddy, a water seller from Ahmedabad who impersonated an IAS officer. Arpit contacted Dinesh Patel and, using a script provided by the duo, claimed to be a high-ranking official aware of the alleged tax seizure. He even sent photos of cash to make the story seem credible and urged Patel to financially assist Kaushik and Jayantibhai."I have Rs 300 crore seized by the Income Tax department. Send money to help your friends Kaushik and Jayantibhai in getting it released," Arpit told Patel transferred Rs 21.65 lakh to the conmen under the impression that he was helping friends entangled in a serious legal battle. When no repayment followed, he filed a complaint with the Visnagar police in police investigation revealed that Arpit had no official credentials and was, in fact, working as a water seller in Ahmedabad. He admitted to being paid Rs 80,000 by the Patel duo for making the impersonation calls and participating in the seller Arpit was arrested by the police on Tuesday. The judge also directed the Southern Railway and the state government to pay Rs 50 lakh each as compensation to the victim. Public Prosecutor PT Saravanan, who represented the victim, told TNIE the court has made it clear that no leniency, including parole or leave, should be granted to Hemaraj. The judge further instructed the railways to appoint woman police personnel in ladies' coaches in all trains across TN and to install surveillance cameras in these coaches. Besides, the state government was ordered to bear the cost of the victim's lifelong treatment. The chargesheet was filed on April 26, and the trial commenced on June 9. The crime took place on February 6, 2025, when the woman from Tiruppur was travelling alone in the ladies' coach of the Coimbatore–Tirupati Intercity Express. After other woman passengers got down at Jolarpet station, Hemaraj boarded the compartment and allegedly attempted to rape her before pushing her off the train. On February 10, she suffered a miscarriage of the second baby the family had planned and waited 18 years for.

TG Cricket Assn files complaint over alleged fund misuse
Hyderabad: The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) district committees have lodged police complaints against the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) across various districts, alleging the misuse of funds earmarked for cricket development over the past two decades. District committees from Khammam, Warangal, Adilabad, and Mahbubnagar have approached their respective Superintendents of Police. Dharam Guruva Reddy, General Secretary of the TCA, stated that the HCA has consistently claimed in its annual accounts to have allocated Rs 20 lakh annually for cricket development. However, a forensic audit conducted by E&Y reportedly found no evidence of these funds being spent in the districts. Guruva Reddy highlighted that both the High Court-appointed committee and two Supreme Court-appointed committees had previously recommended investigating and punishing those responsible for the alleged fund misuse. Despite these recommendations, he claims that successive elected bodies governing the HCA have ignored and bypassed these directives. Consequently, four TCA district units have submitted criminal complaints against HCA-related clubs in their respective districts. The TCA plans to submit similar complaints against other district-named clubs on Tuesday. The association is demanding appropriate criminal action against all clubs involved in siphoning off what it describes as 'publicly accountable funds' intended for the upliftment of underprivileged and rural cricketers in Telangana State.
