Kuwait, GCC tackle human trafficking
VIENNA: Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah has reaffirmed Kuwait's unwavering commitment — alongside fellow Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states — to strengthening regional and international cooperation in the fight against trafficking in persons. This came during a speech delivered by Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher at a side event organized by GCC countries in partnership with the UN Advisory Committee on Combating Human Trafficking, held on the sidelines of the 34th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Vienna.
Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher commended the constructive role played by the UN Advisory Committee in supporting collective Gulf efforts to address this transnational crime. She highlighted several key initiatives spearheaded by Kuwait to counter trafficking, notably the hosting of the Sixth Regional Government Forum on Combating Trafficking in Persons, the establishment of a shelter for male migrant workers, the creation of labour cities aimed at improving workplace conditions, and the launch of the National Strategy to Combat Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants 2025–2028 under the slogan 'Towards Defense'.
Underscoring Kuwait's commitment to protecting rights and promoting justice, Sheikha Jawaher also reviewed the country's legal advancements, including the implementation of Law No (91) of 2013 and Law No. (114) of 2024. She noted Kuwait's close cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), particularly in the areas of knowledge exchange, professional visits to shelters and correctional facilities, and capacity-building.
In light of evolving global challenges, the Ambassador called for enhanced collective action, advocating for the creation of a unified Gulf digital platform to align national strategies and streamline the exchange of information and best practices. Sheikha Jawaher also stressed the importance of active Gulf participation in the upcoming high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly next November, aimed at reviewing the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons.
She underlined the necessity of addressing emerging threats, including the misuse of modern technologies and artificial intelligence in human trafficking activities. The Ambassador concluded by reaffirming the State of Kuwait's steadfast dedication to upholding human dignity, advancing justice, and working closely with regional and international partners to combat this cross-border crime. — KUNA

KUWAIT CITY, July 27: Kuwaiti authorities arrested 44 laborers during a surprise inspection at a major construction site, in a sweeping crackdown on illegal workers amid efforts to regulate the country's labor market. The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), in coordination with the Joint Tripartite Committee, launched the unannounced raid at the Al-Naeem Housing Project under the directives of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah. The campaign uncovered a range of labor violations, including workers found employed by companies other than their sponsors, laborers working in professions not listed on their permits, and individuals residing in Kuwait illegally. Among the violations: 12 workers were found under the domestic servant category (Article 20) but were working in construction. 1 worker was found violating the law under the shepherd category. 28 workers were employed by companies that were not licensed to operate on the site. 3 individuals were caught for residency violations. The arrested laborers were reportedly working under the names of Arab Contractors and First Group, without possessing the required permits and engaging in unauthorized job roles. In an official statement, PAM emphasized that the inspection is part of a broader campaign to enforce Kuwait's labor laws and create a safer, more organized work environment for all stakeholders. The authority affirmed that inspections will continue with full force and violators will face strict legal action. 'These measures are being implemented in collaboration with relevant agencies to deter violations and maintain the integrity of Kuwait's labor market,' the statement read.

Kuwaiti accused of sectarian discord trial set for July 30
KUWAIT CITY, July 26: The Criminal Court has set the session of July 30 for the trial of a citizen, identified only as 'A.M.', who is accused of offending a segment of Kuwaiti society and violating the National Unity Law. The defendant was referred to court following investigations by the Public Prosecution into a complaint filed against him over statements attributed to him, which were deemed offensive and damaging to the social fabric, in violation of Law No. 19/2012 on the Protection of National Unity. The court will study the charges to determine whether the defendant's actions constitute punishable offenses under the law. There have been growing public calls for strict enforcement of the law to deter anyone who incites sedition or threatens social cohesion.

15 more individuals lose their Kuwait citizenship
KUWAIT CITY, July 26: The Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Citizenship, during its recent meeting chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, decided to revoke the citizenship of several individuals, pending approval by the Council of Ministers, reports Al-Seyassah daily. In a press statement, the Ministry of Interior clarified that the decision includes revocations based on dual nationality, fraudulent acquisition through false statements or forgery, and cases deemed necessary for the protection of the country's higher interests. In a related development, the official gazette 'Kuwait Al-Youm' recently published two decisions for revoking the citizenship of 15 individuals. The first decision, issued under Article 10 of the Nationality Law, revoked the citizenship of one woman. The second decision, issued under Article 11 of the same law, revoked the citizenship of 10 women and four men
