Water bell system will be implemented in TN govt schools soon: School education minister

KRISHNAGIRI: A water bell system would be implemented in schools for the welfare of students, Tamil Nadu school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said on Friday. The minister was speaking to reporters in Hosur. In response to a question about introducing the Water Bell system to ensure that children in govt schools drink water regularly, he said this good initiative is already in practice in Kerala. Kerala introduced the system last year. It involves ringing a bell twice a day -- at 10.30 am and 2.30pm -- in all schools to remind students of drinking water. "When it comes to health and wellness, Tamil Nadu govt introduced the breakfast scheme, reflecting our concern for students' wellbeing. Similarly, a circular will soon be issued to implement the water bell scheme in govt schools," he said. He said more than 2,381 govt schools are conducting LKG classes in the state. 'In many schools, teachers are voluntarily taking LKG classes. Since Hosur has a multilingual population, special attention will be given to this area. Steps will be taken to introduce LKG classes in all schools soon," he added.
