Goa BJP minister takes corruption swipe at CM Sawant's department, Opposition demands strong action

New Delhi: Goa's Art and Culture Minister, Govind Gaude, on Monday made serious allegations against his own government, accusing it of corruption. His remark came during a Prerna Din function organised by the tribal welfare department.
Labelling serious charges, the minister alleged that the files of contractors are cleared in exchange for bribes, demanding a clarification from the Tribal Welfare Department, which is under Goa CM Pramod Sawant.
'A huge amount of taxpayers' money is allotted to the tribal welfare department. If it's unable to organise this programme efficiently, then it only shows a lack of control over the administration,' Gaude was heard saying in a video shared by Prudent Media.
'The files of the contractors are handled under the Shram Shakti Bhavan building on the sly. And they think we don't know of such things,' he added.
According to the reports, Gaude also questioned the government over the construction of a tribal bhavan. He asked why the project was still pending when the foundation stone was laid during his tenure as the tribal minister. Opposition Launches Scathing Attack Against Government
The opposition launched a scathing attack against the Sawant government and demanded governor P S Sreedharan Pillai to take note of the minister's comments and dismiss Pramod Sawant-led state govt.
'Gaude's allegations against the CM exposes BJP govt's corruption. The anti-corruption branch should probe these claims and take action against those guilty of bribery,' said opposition leader Yuri Alemao. 'It is time for the BJP to prioritise transparency and root out corruption. Hope BJP doesn't say it is 'their internal matter'. Party with differences is exposed by 'differences'?'
GFP president and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said BJP has cultivated and encouraged corruption in every department.
'Cabinet minister Govind Gaude's statement that contractors need to pay bribes to get files cleared is not much of a revelation, but a sign of utter frustration with his own govt. Over the years, I've exposed innumerable scams, small and big, that have dragged Goa down the path of irreversible ruin,' Sardesai said.

Relief for 6,000 residents of Indira Colony as HC halts demolition drive

The Hindu Bureau New Delhi Over 6,000 residents of Indira Colony in north-west Delhi have received a temporary reprieve as the Delhi High Court ordered a stay on a demolition drive scheduled for Saturday and directed that no coercive action be taken until the next hearing on July 31. The court passed the interim order on a petition filed by the Indira Colony Resident Welfare Association, which challenged an eviction notice issued by the Northern Railway on July 4, citing 'unauthorised occupation' of railway land. The court observed that the issue 'requires further examination'. Broken promise Amid legal proceedings, the issue drew sharp political reactions. At a press conference, Leader of the Opposition Atishi said: 'Before elections, the Prime Minister promised every slum dweller a pucca house under the slogan 'Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan'. But ever since the BJP came to power, bulldozers have arrived at poor people's homes.' Former Shalimar Bagh AAP MLA Bandana Kumari said panic spread in the area on July 4 when the notice was pasted. 'This is CM Rekha Gupta's constituency. Despite her assurances, bulldozers razed one jhuggi earlier. Now, Indira Camp faces the same threat,' she said. While there was no immediate response from the BJP, the CM had previously assured residents that no demolition would occur without legal process or rehabilitation, and that any demolitions under way were court-directed. Policy breach The petitioners argued that the eviction violated Article 21 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to life and dignity, including shelter, and that authorities had not followed due process under the Delhi Slum and JJ Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, 2015, and the 2016 Draft Protocols. 'None of the required steps were taken,' it said, pointing out that the colony appears as Serial No. 74 on the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board's (DUSIB) list of 675 eligible jhuggi jhopri (JJ) bastis. The protocol mandates that the land-owning agency must send a request to DUSIB, which must examine the eligibility of the basti for rehabilitation. Only if found ineligible, can demolition proceedings begin, the plea said. Appearing for the Northern Railway, the Central government's counsel submitted that the land belongs to the railway and that the occupants were in 'illegal possession'. The eviction notice, the counsel argued, was issued in accordance with the law.

BJP seeks resignation of Congress MLA over alleged caste cert fraud

1 2 3 Jaipur: The BJP Friday demanded the immediate resignation of Congress MLA from Keshoraipatan (Bundi), CL Premi Bairwa, following allegations that he secured a forged Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate to contest the 2023 Assembly elections. As per allegations, Bairwa—originally from a general category—allegedly obtained a fake caste certificate to contest from the SC-reserved Keshoraipatan seat in Bundi district. BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bhardwaj said the party took note of the issue and would scrutinise the documents thoroughly. "This case exposes how shamelessly the Congress can stoop to win elections. Premi Bairwa became MLA twice—in 2008 and 2023—using fake documents," Bhardwaj alleged. "Though this may not yet be a criminal case, the govt must immediately revoke all benefits and perks he enjoyed during his tenure. " Former Keshoraipatan BJP MLA Chandrakanta Meghwal, one of the complainants, said documents were submitted to additional chief secretary Aparna Arora, who heads the social justice & empowerment and panchayati raj departments Friday. "We submitted documents including Bairwa's date of birth, election affidavits, family history, and caste references," Meghwal told TOI. "Bairwa belongs to a family historically associated with the erstwhile Tonk royal family and carries the title 'Kabari'. His father was never listed as SC in official records, and none of his documents identify him as Scheduled Caste. A probe into his family background will reveal more shocking facts. "
