Sniggering Rangers told Celtic Treble tears will dry quickly as Modric is more Murray style moonbeams

Daily Record29-05-2025
Rangers fans have been having a giggle at Celtic's tears after Treble failure on the Hotline all week.
But Hoops fans have hit back and insisted their club has the last laugh. Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: 'With Rangers fans at long last having something to cheer about this season it makes me laugh that Celtic only doing a double this season is something to gloat about.
'Yet another season winning nothing, getting beat at home by Queen's Park yet our captain crying is something to chuckle at. If only your own players have a fraction of his talent or passion maybe they would be in with a chance of winning the League Cup.'
Peter Lyons, Blantyre, said: 'Can I ask if true why were you walking past Hampden on Cup Final day when the Govan Galacticos were knocked out in an earlier round by that euro force Queen's Park. Every single Hoops fan still has tears of laughter.'
Glen Mitchell emailed: 'The usual Ibrox leaning supporters of a simply unsuccessful club are taking the mickey out of Callum McGregor shedding a few tears.
'This is a player who has won in excess of 20 trophies, six of which came in the Gerrard period, where they won one from nine. St Johnstone won more than they did during Steven Gerrard's tenure. Don't forget the tears from Ryan Jack either when they lost a League Cup Final.'
Mark McManus, Purley, said: 'I was pleased to see the usual Rangers support on here celebrating a Celtic loss in lifting the Treble. It's great to see that they have something to celebrate at the end of the season.
'No doubt they will be gloating over the billions they will be spending next season to catch up with the champions of Scotland with the one of six managers in the frame along with Luca Modric who apparently is chomping at the bit for a move to Ibrox.
"I say get Slippy back. He has unfinished business as he left early to be successful at Aston villa and Saudi Arabia.'
Meanwhile, the Rangers boss search drags on and Robert Livingston, Palm Beach, said: 'Maybe they should have put half a dozen names in a hat a month ago and have Andrew Cavenagh – who knows nothing about soccer – pull one out. If it's true the new owners are giving Rangers £100m to spend they should have gone and got the best – Jose Mourinho.'
Elsewhere, a tale of two hitmen with Gers' Cyriel Dessers on target for his country and ex-Celt Kyogo out in the cold in France.
Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: 'With Dessers scoring in a Green and White jersey for the Nigeria national team, I'm surprised he hasn't got £30 million rated headlines with mythical Italian teams interested. That's 29 for the season for Cyril, if he played across the city there would be a bidding war.'
While Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: 'What bigger incentive does Brendan Rodgers need to pick up the phone to Kyogo after reports claim he has been told to find a new club? I've watched every Celtic match since his departure and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to see they are a shadow of a team with him missing.'
Finally a word for a promotion hero.
Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: 'David Martindale has been outstanding for Livingston, juggling both roles as manager and keeping the club from extinction.
'He deserves the next managerial award as others would have thrown the towel in. Well done Davie, you are a true professional, you hung in there and hope you reap the rewards next season.'

Al-Ahli, the reigning AFC Champions League holders who had Premier League winner Riyad Mahrez and England striker Ivan Toney in attack, had the better of the first half. Mahrez was involved as the Saudis took the lead on 22 minutes, floating a cross into the box where Brazilian winger Galeno scored with a stunning scissor kick. Arne Engels, Ben Summers, McCowan, Stephen Welsh and Yamada all hit the target with their penalties with Sinisalo saving one of Al-Ahli's efforts to ensure Celtic go into their Premiership opener against St Mirren next Sunday on a positive note.

And Rodgers said: 'It was nice for Shin. 'It's not been easy for him when you think he's only just come into the club. 'He's come to a new culture and new way of working with a real intensity. 'But he's worked really hard in training. 'Sadly he didn't get the run-out the other night but the plan was to give him 45 minutes tonight and I felt he worked really hard when he came on. 'He showed good composure, he's very quick and strong. 'He wants to get in behind and, from the wee bits I've seen of him so far, he just needs to get into more decisive positions to score. 'We are a team that creates a lot of opportunities. 'But he's strong and he he can press the game.' Nicolas Kuhn poses for selfies with Celtic fans as he greets team-mates and Brendan Rodgers at Como Cup Celts will name their European squad on August 14 and Rodgers has challenged his players to make sure they aren't on the list of omissions. He added: 'The challenge is there for everyone. 'All the players want to be involved in that and there is enough time for all the players to be able to do that.' Rodgers was pleased with the performance in Celts' final friendly clash before the new season kicks off. He added: 'If you look at the quality of players they have, they're a top team. 'They have made some real investment in their squad so it was always going to be a good level of game. 3 'That's why we came, 'But I felt in the second half our guys stepped up and create chances. 'We had some of the younger players like Ben Summers and Colby Donovan involved too and I was keen to give them a run-out tonight. 'They showed energy for the game and when they were asked up to take a penalty they showed good composure.' Cameron Carter-Vickers played 60 minutes as he continues to battle back to fitness after his summer knee surgery. But Rodgers says the defender will take time to get back to his best. He added: 'There's no doubt Cameron is number of weeks behind but its that mixture of giving him game time and looking after him. 'It's such a long season. The boys who have played – like Dane Murray – have been excellent. 'It's the same with Ali. It'll take him a while to get up to speed but Tony Ralston is there and he's been great. 'He has got good running power and he was up against a player that cost £50m.' Rodgers, meanwhile, hopes Celts step up their signings search this week. He added: 'I haven't had any update as yet. I've very hopeful that will be the case. We know we want to improve the squad.' 3 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi to Rangers transfer latest as Crystal Palace winger OPEN to Ibrox move

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) JESURUN RAK-SAKYI is open to a move to Rangers. Russell Martin has confirmed the Crystal Palace winger is wanted for an Ibrox loan. Sign up for the Rangers newsletter Sign up 2 Jesurun Rak-Sakyi in action for Crystal Palace last night Credit: Getty Rak-Sakyi, 22, is a target for a handful of Championship sides in England after spending last season on loan at Sheffield United. But the positive vibes are all for a move to Glasgow - after SunSport first revealed Gers' interest. Ibrox boss Martin is hoping for a loan for Rak-Sakyi first before a potential permanent deal. And he may get that if the player is more keen on them than other options. Martin tried to buy Rak-Sakyi for Southampton a year ago and is a big fan. Rak-Sakyi picked up an injury after coming on as a sub in Palace's friendly with Crawley Town on Friday night. Martin said of Rak-Sakyi this week: "There are a lot of players we have been linked with. "Some wide of the mark, some very close and some spot on. "He is a player I liked at Southampton, we tried to take him there and it didn't quite happen. "He is a player I like and I think the recruitment staff like him too, how far that has gone I'm not too sure. Rangers fans unfurl giant tifo ahead of Russell Martin's first match "He is a really good player. We look at all sorts of different profiles that we think can help the team. It doesn't have to be just one sort of profile. "Players are very different. We just need the ones with the right mentality who are desperate to come here and we will see where we are in four weeks' time." 2 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
