Cop, clerk held in graft case
The accused clerk has been identified as Sandeep Kumar. The state vigilance and anti-corruption bureau also nabbed inspector Sunil Jain and the duo will be produced before a local court in Sonepat on Saturday.
In a complaint to Rohtak unit of State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (earlier Anti-Corruption Bureau), Sonepat's Badwasni village resident Vipin Kumar said that his relative Praveen Lakra was booked in two separate cases over some dispute with another property dealer at Delhi's Alipur police station.
'The inspector Sunil Jain, who was probing the cases demanded ₹1 crore to remove my relative's name from one FIR and he assured us to take back some sections in another FIR. The deal was finalised at ₹70 lakh and we informed the vigilance team about the same,' he added.
Inspector Pramila of the state vigilance and anti-corruption bureau from the Rohtak unit said that the clerk was working in a school owned by the inspector's brother. The accused were booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Delhi: Year after woman reports husband as missing, she & partner held for murder
On July 5, last year, Pritam Prakash from Outer North Delhi's Alipur, was murdered and his body dumped in a drain near Agwanpur village at Ganaur district in Haryana's Sonipat. Fifteen days later, his wife Soniya (34) filed a missing complaint at Alipur police station, claiming that Pritam had gone missing during the night of July 5. What began as a probe into a missing person's complaint unraveled into a calculated plot involving deception, betrayal, and a staged disappearance, eventually leading to Soniya and her partner Rohit's (28) arrests on Friday for Pritam's murder, police said on Saturday. The motive behind the murder – a toxic marriage, years of domestic abuse, and the desire to start a new life together. The case took a turn when Delhi Police, conducting routine checks on absconding criminals, noticed that Pritam had been off the grid for too long. In fact, he had been missing for so long that he had been declared a Proclaimed Offender in one of the cases lodged against him. It was then, police said, that they discovered the missing person complaint filed by Soniya. When they attempted to trace Pritam's phone, the police realised that it was active in Jaji village of Sonipat. A raid was conducted but in place of Pritam, the police found Rohit, in possession of the phone. Police said Rohit first attempted to obfuscate the truth by saying that he had bought the phone from a stranger. When questioned further, he cracked. He allegedly admitted to being in a relationship with Soniya and claimed that she had given him the phone to dispose of after Pritam's murder. Subsequently, police said, Soniya was arrested. She allegedly admitted that she hired her sister's brother-in-law, Vijay, as a contract killer to murder Pritam for a price of Rs 1 lakh. DCP (Crime) Harsh Indora said, 'Soniya married Pritam Prakash when she was 16 years old… It was a love marriage. But Pritam was a drug addict and often used to beat her up. They frequently fought over it. Pritam had been to jail many times for illegal possession of weapons, robbery, theft, and kidnapping, among others… because of this, the atmosphere at home was not pleasant.' He added that in 2023-24, Soniya became friends with Rohit, who used to drive a taxi in Delhi, over social media. The police said that on July 2, last year, after a fight with Pritam, Soniya left for her sister's house in Ganaur in Rohit's cab. During the car ride, she allegedly asked Rohit to kill Pritam. But when Rohit asked for Rs 6 lakh, she dropped the idea, said police. Three days later, Pritam came to Ganaur to pick up Soniya. There, the couple fought again and Pritam insulted her, said police. Incensed, Soniya allegedly decided to murder Pritam. Police said she then approached Vijay. 'At Soniya and Vijay's request, Pritam agreed to stay back in Ganaur… She went to sleep on the terrace… After some time, she heard Pritam's screams. When she woke up in the morning, she saw that Pritam was not at home,' said the DCP. The following day, Soniya left for home with Pritam's autorickshaw, which she later sold to pay Vijay Rs 1 lakh and repay some loans. Police said that Pritam's body, then unidentified, was discovered by the Sonipat police on July 10. Ten days later, Soniya filed a missing person complaint. This June, before Soniya and Rohit's arrest, Vijay was arrested in a theft case.

Delhi woman, boyfriend arrested for husband's murder as police crack year-old case
Delhi Police have arrested a woman and her boyfriend for allegedly planning and carrying out the murder of her husband and disposing of his body in a drain in Haryana's Sonipat, an official said on arrested persons have been identified as 34-year-old Soniya, a resident of Alipur in Delhi, and her 28-year-old boyfriend Rohit from Sonipat. Another accused in the case, Vijay, is to police, the motive behind the murder was the ongoing relationship between Soniya and Rohit, along with the alleged abusive and criminal behaviour of the victim. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora said the victim, 42-year-old Pritam Prakash, had more than 10 criminal cases against him and had been declared a proclaimed offender by a Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora said, "The victim, Pritam Prakash (42), was a known history-sheeter in Alipur. He had more than 10 cases registered against him, including those under the Arms Act, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. He had also been declared a proclaimed offender by the court."On July 5, 2024, Pritam had gone to pick up Soniya from her sister's house in Gannaur, Sonipat. After an argument, Pritam left the house but later returned and pleaded with her, Soniya let him stay in the house. That day, Soniya allegedly offered Rs 50,000 to Vijay, her sister's brother-in-law, to kill that night, while Soniya was sleeping on the terrace, Vijay allegedly killed Pritam and disposed of his body in a drain near Agwanpur. Police said Vijay recorded a video of the body and sent it to Soniya via social media, but the video was later July 20, Soniya filed a missing person complaint at Alipur Police Station, claiming her husband had gone out and never case initially did not show any signs of foul play, but investigators grew suspicious after noticing no financial or digital activity from Pritam for later tracked a mobile number linked to Pritam that had become active again after nearly a year. Surveillance led them to Rohit in questioning, Rohit at first misled the police but later admitted to the said Rohit confessed to being in a relationship with Soniya and said they had planned the murder together. He also said Soniya had allegedly paid Vijay to carry out the the same time, Haryana Police had recovered an unidentified male body from the area, but were unable to identify it. The case remained unsolved until Delhi Police linked the details nearly a year to police, Soniya later sold Pritam's auto-rickshaw for Rs 4.5 lakh and gave his mobile phone to Rohit. DNA samples collected during the Haryana post-mortem will now be used to confirm the identity of the said Soniya married Pritam when she was around 15 years old, against the wishes of their families. They later accepted the marriage, and the couple had three children, including a 16-year-old son and two daughters."The marriage was never reported to the police by the families, who later accepted the couple. They have three children from the wedlock, including a 16-year-old boy and two daughters," the DCP according to police, had four previous criminal cases, including charges of murder and possession of illegal arms. Court clears ex-officer who resisted RSS chief's arrest in another case
Former Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officer Mehboob Mujawar, who had earlier claimed he was instructed by senior officers to arrest RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in connection with the 2008 Malegaon blast but refused due to lack of evidence, has been acquitted in a separate criminal along with his wife Nilofar and associate Uttam Navgire, was facing charges of criminal intimidation, unlawful assembly and trespassing. The case was registered in April 2009, about six months after the Malegaon has consistently maintained that the case was filed in retaliation for his refusal to carry out what he called an "illegal order." The complaint was filed by Nazeer A. Hanif Karigar, who alleged that on April 14, 2009, Mujawar and others entered his shop in Solapur, threatened him and claimed ownership of the prosecution stated that Mujawar, identifying himself as an ATS officer, allegedly pointed a revolver at a witness, used abusive language and said he could 'do an encounter' on anyone. The accused reportedly refused to vacate the property, asserting it had been purchased for Rs 80 case dragged on for over a decade. In 2016, Mujawar filed an application seeking speedy trial, stating that the ongoing proceedings had caused him to miss out on a promotion to Deputy Superintendent of Police in 2012 and that further delays would impact his retirement his application, he also linked the case to high-profile individuals named in the Malegaon blast investigation, including Sandeep Dange, Ramji Kalsangra, Col. Purohit and Sadhvi Pragya, and referenced the alleged involvement of 600 kg of a sworn statement to the court, Mujawar reiterated that he had been asked to arrest Mohan Bhagwat, a claim that was later cited by an accused in the Malegaon case in a Mumbai court to support allegations of a wider conspiracy and custodial torture by investigating the Solapur Magistrate court did not consider these submissions in deciding the case against Mujawar. Chief Judicial Magistrate K.P. Jain-Desarda acquitted all three accused, citing lack of court noted that the complainant had since moved to Canada and could not be examined despite being summoned. Other prosecution witnesses failed to support the allegations or lacked witness, Gulam Hussain Kasimsaheb Shaikh, testified that Mujawar had pointed a gun and issued threats, but the court found his testimony insufficient on its weapon was recovered during the investigation, and key documentary evidence, such as a police commissioner's prohibition order, was excluded due to lack of proper certification.'In the absence of the complainant's testimony and supporting evidence, the benefit of doubt must go to the accused,' the court observed.
