Kolkata: The rape videos found on accused Monojit Mishra's cellphone were filmed by aides Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee. Monojit had asked them to shoot from an angle from which the survivor's body and face were clearly visible, cops said.
"The girl, in her complaint as well as her statement, said that there were multiple videos shot by the accused which they used to blackmail her during and after the crime. She also wrote in the complaint that the duo took two videos while Monojit was forcibly undressing her. We found all those videos on Mishra's cellphone, and the content matched her claim," said a senior Kolkata Police officer.
Police seized the phones of Monojit and two co-accused — Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed — during their arrest.
The videos were found only on Monojit's cellphone. The videos have been sent for examination at the Cyber Forensics & Digital Evidence Examiners Laboratory in Salt Lake for digital forensic analysis. Alongside the crime videos, police said they found a slew of other objectionable content on Monojit's mobile.

TOI reported on Sunday about Monojit's practice of manipulating photos of young women by superimposing them onto explicit images and sharing them with his inner circle.
According to acquaintances, he regularly captured intimate moments with female companions and distributed these recordings to others. His compulsion to film extended to various situations, including confrontations and violent incidents.
"He and his aides would take photos of women, post them in groups, and engage in body shaming, tarnishing their reputations by discussing their physical appearances," a friend said.
A first-year student told TOI that Mishra controlled all WhatsApp groups where crucial announcements were shared, with complete authority to manage membership. "It was a standard practice to share photos of our female colleagues and make unsuitable remarks.
He had complete access throughout the campus. Students sought his assistance in university-related matters."
Police said they also retrieved CCTV footage from the college that shows the survivor running toward the locked main gate, seemingly attempting to escape.
The footage also shows two men dragging her back to the security guard's room. Police added Mishra was telling investigators that the intercourse between him and the woman was consensual and that she lodged an FIR to malign him. None of the three accused denied their presence on the campus at the time of crime, but they claimed a different version of the incident.
"However, the footage contradicts their claims," said an officer. Cops said they were also checking if Mishra had access to the footage from CCTVs. On Sunday, cops also visited Pramit Mukherjee's Howrah home to check if he stored any other videos on his home computer. Cops took Mukherjee to his home amid protests by locals and stayed there for more than two hours.

Kolkata gangrape case: ‘Red kurta, brown pants' – Police recovers CRUCIAL evidence seen in CCTV footage
Kolkata Gangrape Case: The investigation into the horrific alleged rape of a 21-year-old student inside South Calcutta Law College has taken a critical turn, as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Kolkata Police recovered key forensic evidence, including clothes worn by the main accused—referred to as 'M'—that matched those seen in CCTV footage, according to Anandabaazar Patrika. The Bengali daily refused to identify 'M' in thior reports. The SIT also visited the homes of all three accused — Monojit Mishra, Jayeb, and Pramit — and collected multiple samples. Kolkata Police officials revealed that a red kurta, brown trousers with six pockets, and black shorts were recovered from Kolkata gangrape prime accused 'M's residence. These were the exact clothes the Kolkata gangrape case prime accused Monojit Mishra was seen wearing during the time of the incident, according to the Bengali media report citing the CCTV footage. The items have been sent for forensic analysis and are expected to play a vital role in corroborating the victim's account. The SIT, initially comprising five officers and now expanded to nine, is led by Assistant Commissioner (South Suburbs) Pradeep Kumar Ghoshal. A female officer has also joined the probe. The team visited the homes of all three accused on Sunday, collecting clothing, electronic devices, and other physical evidence. Investigators are probing whether the accused used any other gadgets beyond their mobile phones. According to ABP report, the south Kolkata law college gangrape survivor was taken back to the crime scene to help reconstruct the sequence of events. The 21-year-old law student told officers that the sexual assault began inside the student union room of the south Kolkata law college, but escalated when she was dragged into the guard's room, where the rape occurred. The gangrape survivor claimed to have suffered a head injury during the assault and alleged that one of the accused attempted to strike her with a hockey stick. The stick has since been recovered, and strands of torn hair were also found at the scene, now sent for DNA testing. CCTV footage from 7:30 PM to 10:50 PM on 25 June has been collected. Investigators say the footage supports the survivor's claims and places the accused at the scene. The security guard, who allegedly failed to intervene, has also been arrested. The gangrape survivor's family has stated they do not want a CBI probe at this stage and have expressed faith in the Kolkata Police investigation. According to several local media reports, the arrested guard Pinaki Bandopadhyay has revealed to investigators that another female student was present at the union room throughout the day before the survivor was assaulted. Around 8:30 pm, that female student left the college. On the day of the incident, Pinaki was assigned to the night shift, while another security guard had been on duty during the day shift, whose statement is also likely to be recorded as part of the investigation. According to a News18 report, the police have prepared a list of 17 individuals who were present at the college after 4pm on the day of the incident. Two of them have been questioned by the SIT.

Last Updated: On the day of the incident, Pinaki, the security guard, was assigned to the night shift, while another security guard had been on duty during the day shift Probing the Kasba college gangrape case, Kolkata Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) recovered the same clothes worn by the prime accused, identified as 'M', from his residence, as seen in the CCTV footage from the day of the crime, reported Bengali news website The SIT also visited the homes of all three accused — Manojit, Jayeb, and Pramit — and collected multiple samples. Adding to the gravity of the case, investigators revealed that during the incident, the accused snatched the mobile phone of the college's night-shift security guard, Pinaki Bandopadhyay, allegedly to prevent him from calling for help or alerting anyone about the crime. During questioning, Pinaki also revealed that another female student was present in the college's union room throughout the day before the victim was assaulted. Around 8:30 pm, that student left the college. Sources say that police are likely to summon and question that female student as well as part of the investigation. On the day of the incident, Pinaki was assigned to the night shift, while another security guard had been on duty during the day shift, whose statement is also likely to be recorded as part of the investigation. According to sources, the police have prepared a list of 17 individuals who were present at the college after 4pm on the day of the incident. Out of them, two were questioned yesterday, while the remaining are scheduled to be questioned today as part of the ongoing investigation. An SIT official confirmed that the clothes seen in the CCTV footage, worn by 'M' at the time of the assault, were found during the search at his home. The SIT recovered a red kurta and brown pants with six pockets, which match the clothes captured in the CCTV from the night of the crime. A pair of black shorts was also seized during the search. An officer stated, 'The clothes recovered from the house match exactly with what was seen in the CCTV footage from the day of the incident. These garments are now key forensic evidence in the case." These clothes have now been sent for forensic examination, as investigators believe they could serve as crucial evidence in the case. Police are hopeful that the forensic analysis will help strengthen the case against the accused. Officers believe that the matching garments will play a critical role in corroborating the CCTV evidence with physical proof recovered from the accused's residence. Campus Neta, Lawyer, Rape Accused: Monojit 'Mango' Mishra's Chilling Tale
New Delhi: "Monojit dada is in our hearts (Team MM)" reads a wall graffiti inside the Kolkata law college that has made headlines for a student's rape on campus. "Monojit dada" here is Monojit Mishra, prime accused in the rape case and an alumnus who wielded huge influence on the campus even after he passed out. According to Monojit's profile, he has led the college unit of Trinamool College Chhatra Parishad, the student wing of the ruling party in West Bengal, since 2017. Amid nationwide outrage over the rape case, the Trinamool has claimed he has no links with the party and must face the strictest punishment. Students of the college say Monojit, called "Mango" by friends, wielded massive clout on campus, to the extent that even teachers and office staff feared him. According to reports, multiple complaints of harassment and molestation had been registered against him in the past, but no action was taken. A Priest's Troublemaker Son Monojit's father, Robin Mishra, is a priest at Kalighat, and his mother suffers from neurological issues. Robin Mishra has said in interviews that he worked very hard to provide his son with a good education, but broke off ties due to his involvement in politics and frequent brawls. Monojit stayed nearby and would only come to collect documents delivered to his father's home. Robin Mishra has said Monojit had been living separately for about four years. Neighbours claim Monojit, whose nickname is Papai, was a troublemaker who often got into drunken brawls. Some reports say he had a girlfriend, also a lawyer, who often visited him. The Making Of A Campus Neta Once a promising student aspiring for a career in law, Monojit joined the Kolkata college in 2007 and would have finished the course in 2012. During his time, he became involved in campus politics. In 2011, the Trinamool came to power in Bengal. Monojit dropped out before finishing his course. He took readmission in 2017 and passed out in 2022. His profile describes him as a "criminal lawyer", but his father has said he spent more time on campus than in the courtroom. In 2017, Monojit was allegedly involved in an incident of vandalism at the college's principal's office. The Trinamool then dissolved the college's party unit, so Monojit, officially, didn't hold a post anymore. But the law college, like several other colleges in Kolkata, has had no student body polls since 2017. So, on the ground, Monojit was still the neta, with a loyal bunch of cheerleaders. Interestingly, in 2023, a year after he passed out, Monojit joined the college as a casual, clerical staff member and his appointment letter was issued by the college administration. According to reports, he would get Rs 500 per day for his work. It is curious why a lawyer would settle for this work. The answer, probably, lies in an addiction to the influence and following that he enjoyed on campus. A Pick-Up Line, And History Of Perversion According to a report in The Times of India, Monojit's oft-used pick-up line for women on campus was "tui amay biye korbi?" (Will you marry me?)". He used the same line when he first approached the 24-year- survivor of the campus rape. College students have told The Times of India that Monojit would click pictures of female students, morph them and circulate them on WhatsApp groups. The neta and his gang would then body-shame them and gossip about them on campus. There is more. Some students have said they were so scared of Monojit that they had stopped going to college. Last year, in the aftermath of a doctor's rape-murder at a Kolkata hospital, huge protests rocked the city. Monojit confronted some students who had joined the march and questioned them. He allegedly threatened and also beat up some of them. Students have said Monojit would openly say that nothing would happen to him as he has access to top netas. A Criminal Past Monojit Mishra has multiple police complaints against him. He was out on bail in these cases. Some of them include: (1) ripping off the dress of a woman student in South Calcutta Law College in July 2019 (2) stealing music system, perfume, spectacles from a friend's home in Dec 2019 (3) molesting a woman in Swinhoe Lane in March 2022 (4) assualting a man and getting arrested later in April 2017. He is also accused of beating up a college guard and damaging college property in a May 2024 case. Police have said Monojit Mishra has denied the rape allegation and has claimed that it was consensual. Police are now planning to seek an extension for his custody and may submit the list of crimes in court to argue their cases. What Happened On June 25 The survivor has alleged in her complaint that Monojit and the two other accused Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed called her to the college's union room around 7 pm on June 25. This raises big questions about the discipline on campus. Classes are over by 5 pm, after which the gates must be closed. How then can students remain in the union room till late? The victim has alleged that a security guard on campus assisted the accused. She has said that once she reached the union room, Monojit asked her to "prove her loyalty" to Trinamool's student wing. She smelled a rat and tried to leave, but was dragged to another room and raped there. The accused shot videos and threatened her to stay mum. Police officers part of the investigation have said that the CCTV footage from the campus has corroborated the survivor's account and shows her being forced into the room where the crime took place. Four people, including the guard, have been arrested in the case.
