Two dead and three injured, including state trooper, in Kentucky shootings
At 11.36am ET on Sunday, an unidentified shooter opened fire near Blue Grass airport in Lexington and wounded a state trooper, according to authorities. The shooting occurred after the trooper had pulled over a vehicle after receiving a license plate reader alert in the area of Versailles Road, Lexington police said.
The suspect carjacked a vehicle in the 3700 block of Belleau Wood Drive before fleeing the scene. The suspect then fled to Richmond Road Baptist church where four individuals were shot. Two women were pronounced dead at the scene and two other men were transported to a local hospital.
According to media reports, the women killed were 72 years old and 32 years old. Additionally, one of the men who was injured was reported to have sustained critical injuries while the other was reported to be in stable condition.
'Preliminary information indicates that the suspect may have had a connection to individuals at the church,' Lexington police said, adding that the Fayette county coroner's office will release the deceased victims' information.
Police added that the suspect was shot by responding law enforcement and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police added that information about the suspect will be released after their family is notified.
Meanwhile, the state trooper is currently being treated at a nearby hospital.
'Three Lexington Police Officers fired their service weapons. In accordance with Lexington Police Department policies, the officers had their issued body-worn cameras (BWCs) activated. The incident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team, and the department's Public Integrity Unit will conduct an internal review of the incident,' Lexington police said.
The police department added that as per policy, the officers will be placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.
In a statement online, Kentucky's governor, Andy Beshear, said: 'Violence like this has no place in our commonwealth or country. Please join [my wife] Britainy and me as we pray for the families of those lost, each one a child of God gone too soon. Thank you to the @lexkypolice and @kystatepolice for their brave efforts today.'
'Kentucky, let's stand strong together and support our Lexington neighbors during this difficult time,' he added.

Postman jailed for 23 years after beheading girlfriend
Warning: This article contains details some readers may find distressing An "evil" postman who moaned about being lonely hours before he severed his girlfriend's head and tried to dismember her body has been jailed for a minimum of 23 years. Ewan Methven murdered Phoenix Spencer-Horn, 21, in the flat they shared in East Kilbride, near Glasgow, last November. The High Court in Glasgow heard the killer dumped his partner's body parts in their hallway and failed to call emergency services for two days. The 27-year-old then bought drugs, watched pornography and sent sickening texts to Phoenix's worried mum pretending she was still alive. Phoenix was stabbed 20 times using three knives in an attack that unfolded after she returned from her waitressing job in Lanarkshire. The 21-year-old described Methven as her "soul mate" on social media, saying in one TikTok video: "Life is so much more beautiful and full of colour with you." A few months later she was murdered by the same man she had been in a relationship with for two years. 'There was a bad smell where the walls join' Sky News has interviewed the couple's neighbour who lives directly next door. Toni Brown, 25, described the horror of discovering what happened. She said: "I think I stayed out of the house for about a week after that. I couldn't even sit. It was horrific. "It's horrific. It gives me shivers thinking about it. It is crazy to think I stayed next door to a monster like that. "What scares me the most is knowing she was lay there and I was in here oblivious." Asked whether she heard any noises or violence around the time of the murder, Ms Brown said: "There was a bad smell in my house in the early hours of the morning she was found. "There was a bad smell in my kitchen basically where the walls join together. Methven's own defence lawyer told the court society will see him as the "personification of evil". When he eventually called 999, he claimed to have suffered a drug-induced blackout during the violent killing. Another life lost to gender-based violence It has raised questions once again about the growing prevalence of gender-based violence. Fiona Drouet's daughter Emily was 18 years old when she took her own life at university in Aberdeen in 2016, days after being choked and slapped by her ex-boyfriend. Angus Milligan was later convicted of physical and psychological abuse. Fiona, who now campaigns on violence against women across the UK and Ireland, has set up a charity called Emily's Test in her daughter's name. Reacting to the death of Phoenix Spencer-Horn, Ms Drouet told Sky News: "There is another mother and father that have just been plunged into utter hell. "Somebody once said to me that if god came to you and said, 'I am going to give you this beautiful daughter, but you'll only have her for 18 years and then we need to take her back, would you still want her?' and I would take those 18 years and go through the pain rather than have nothing. "Although just now that probably offers no words of comfort for Phoenix's parents, maybe one day it can."

College professor killed by masked gunman while visiting ex-wife's home in Greece sparking manhunt
A COLLEGE professor has been shot and killed while visiting his family in Greece, reports say. Dad-of-two Przemysław Jeziorski, 43, was gunned down in an Athens neighborhood on July 4. Jeziorski, who taught at the University of California Berkeley, was shot five times in the chest and neck, as reported by the Polish outlet TVP World. He was killed in broad daylight near the home of his ex-wife. Jeziorski was in the Greek capital for a custody hearing, according to the ABC affiliate KGO-TV. A masked gunman is believed to have carried out the attack and cops are probing the shooter's movements. Local media reports suggest a car was caught on surveillance footage waiting for the gunman. Cops are probing if the attack was targeted. Jeziorski, who was known as Przemek, had worked at Berkeley's Haas School of Business in varying capacities since 2012. Heartbroken brother Lukasz said his sibling was a victim of a 'terrible crime.' 'He was a leading scholar in marketing science, industrial organization and data analytics,' Lukasz said in a post shared on WhyDonate - a GoFundMe equivalent. 'He loved teaching and sharing his passion for the intricacies of marketing analytics and marketing science with his students.' He claimed his brother was murdered in cold blood. In a Facebook post, Lukasz told how their family had been rocked by a tragedy - weeks before his brother's death. Lukasz and Jeziorski's dad died on June 4. "We barely started to get over it," he said. Jeziorski was a highly-respected scholar having worked at Berkeley in different roles for 13 years. He had been an associate professor of marketing at the college since 2018. FAMILY'S DOUBLE TRAGEDY Jeziorski also worked at colleges including Maryland's Johns Hopkins University and Duke University in North Carolina during his career, according to his LinkedIn. He was a visiting scholar at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business between September and December 2021. Outside of academia, Jeziorski worked as a Microsoft researcher between 2008 and 2010. Jeziorski was the co-founder of the property service Keybee - a platform which helps Americans find short-term rentals. Tributes have been paid to the college lecturer and scholar following his death. Devastated pal, Olga Adamkiewicz, said she had known Jeziorski since he was a child. In a Facebook post, she said he was "probably the most talented" in their friendship group. "I'm not ready for us to leave I'm not ready to say goodbye to someone close under such dramatic circumstances," she said. Zsolta Katona, Jeziorski's colleague, described his death as a "senseless tragedy." She paid tribute to him, saying he was an "outstanding scholar." "Przemek was an amazing person, a friend, a colleague," she told SFGate. The shooter is yet to be arrested as investigations continue. 2
