Clemson football 2026 target, 4-star DL Bryce Perry-Wright announces stunning commitment
The Clemson Tigers and coach Dabo Swinney had long been considered the favorite to land elite four-star defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
But on Saturday, Perry-Wright announced he was committing elsewhere. The 6-foot-2, 250-pound lineman is headed to College Station to play for Texas A&M after a late push by the Aggies this week.
Perry-Wright announced his decision in a live stream on 247Sports' YouTube channel. The Texas Longhorns and Miami Hurricanes were the other finalists for Perry-Wright.
It's a disappointing loss for Clemson on the recruiting trail after a hot stretch in June when the Tigers added five commitments: four-star defensive lineman Keshawn Stancil (Clayton, North Carolina), four-star EDGE Dre Quinn (Buford, Georgia), three-star defensive lineman JR Hardrick (South Pittsburg, Tennessee), and four-star offensive linemen Leo Delaney and Carter Scruggs.
Perry-Wright is the nation's No. 2 defensive lineman in 247Sports' player ratings for the 2026 class and is ranked as the No. 32 overall recruit. Rivals ranks him the No. 5 lineman and the No. 33 overall recruit.
Perry-Wright had received a crystal ball prediction to sign with Clemson in late March, but Rivals recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong logged a prediction on Wednesday that the Peach State native would flip to Texas A&M.
Clemson football 2026 recruiting class commitments
Clemson currently has 20 hard commitments in its 2026 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 8 nationally by both 247Sports and Rivals.

Fox Sports ranks Clemson vs. LSU as one of the Top two matchups that will shape 2025
Clemson football's 2025 season will waste no time grabbing national headlines, with a heavyweight showdown against LSU set to open the year — a matchup FOX Sports calls one of the 10 games that will define the regular season. Two top-10 teams are expected to clash in Week 1, but the spotlight might shine brightest on Clemson, which looks poised to reload for another championship push. Brian Kelly and LSU enter with plenty to prove after an aggressive offseason in the portal and the return of quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. But Kelly's record in openers at LSU — 0-3 so far — means Tiger fans are demanding to see this program finally break through on the big stage. Clemson, meanwhile, looks like the steadier pick according to FOX's early outlook. Dabo Swinney has doubled down on his approach in recent years, and the Tigers return a roster stacked with high-end talent on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Cade Klubnik is listed as FOX's No. 1 quarterback heading into the season, and he'll lead an offense that should be explosive out of the gate. A deep, experienced defense only adds to Clemson's edge. Beyond the playoff implications for both teams, the conference stakes are high. An LSU win would give the SEC an early bragging right in the CFP debate — especially if Clemson rolls through the ACC again. For Clemson, a statement win in Week 1 could be the spark for a season that has all the ingredients for another deep postseason run. BREAKING: Four-star safety picks Georgia over Texas in huge recruiting blow
Just five days ago, it looked like the Longhorns were in a great spot to get four-star safety Chace Calicut to commit to Texas. But that didn't happen. On Friday, the Houston North Shore prospect committed to recruiting rival Georgia. Calicut, who took part in the exclusive Rivals Five-Star Challenge earlier in the week, told Rivals analyst Sam Spiegelman his relationship with Longhorns CB coach Mark Orphey, who also went to North Shore, when talking about his recruitment by the Longhorns at the event's media day. "Mark Orphey came from my hometown school, North Shore. He coached there. He went to school there. He knows exactly how it is to be from Houston North Shore. And he knows how to fit me in with those guys. That's another reason why Texas is up there. It's the same thing with coach Steve Sarkisian. He really gets the players. He's more of a players coach and that's the type of guy I would like to play for." -- Chace Calicut Calicut took an official visit to Georgia on June 6, followed by Michigan on June 13 and Texas on June 20. On Friday, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound defensive back told Spiegelman he actually made his decision on that first official visit to Athens. "I made my decision down there at Georgia during the official visit," Calicut told Rivals. "The coaches always told me that when you're home, it'll feel right ... When I stepped foot on Georgia's campus, after I got a feel for the program, I knew it was the right spot. How could it get better? I don't think it can ... playing for Kirby Smart, at Georgia, at defensive back ... that's the best you can get for a long cornerback. If you wanna get produced, if you wanna go to the next level, you wanna play at Georgia." -- Chace Calicut Texas does already have three DB's committed to the 2026 class in safeties Jake Collett and Yaheim Riley and cornerback Hayward Howard Jr. Advertisement Follow us on X (formerly Twitter) at @LonghornsWire. Where Clemson landed in ESPN's updated College Football Future Power Rankings through 2026
Clemson football is firmly back among college football's top contenders, climbing to No. 7 in ESPN's College Football Future Power Rankings through 2026 — up from No. 12 last year. Much of that optimism centers on quarterback Cade Klubnik, who's set for his third and final season as the Tigers' starter. After accounting for 43 touchdowns and more than 4,000 total yards in 2024, he's expected to finish as one of the program's most productive quarterbacks before heading to the NFL. A dominant defensive line is another reason for Clemson's rise. The Tigers return All-America candidates T.J. Parker and Peter Woods, both projected as early picks for the 2026 NFL Draft. They also added Purdue transfer Will Heldt, who produced five sacks and 10 tackles for loss last fall, and veteran tackle DeMonte Capehart is back to strengthen the interior. Up front on offense, Clemson brings back four starters on the line, including Ryan Linthicum, Tristan Leigh and Walker Parks — all honorable mention All-ACC selections. The Tigers also made subtle but important moves in the transfer portal, landing Heldt and wide receiver Tristan Smith from Missouri State, adding depth to a unit that already features standout Antonio Williams, a first-team All-ACC pick last season. A new defensive coordinator, Tom Allen — fresh off helping Penn State reach the CFP semifinal — steps in to boost a unit that needed a spark. With key stars returning and Swinney's willingness to adapt, Clemson appears ready to make a serious national title push in the next two years.
