Sekhukhune United sets ambitious goals with R30m land acquisition in Midrand

The Citizen6 days ago
The projected investment of R30m is aimed at achieving a level of competitiveness comparable to that of Kaizer Chiefs' Village in Naturena, Johannesburg.
'The land has existing structures,' said the club's chairperson, Simon Malatji, 'which are quite huge and are undergoing renovations. We are utilising [those structures] to reduce costs and renovate the building, but the estimate suggests, for us to be competitive, like Chiefs, is going to be around R30m.'
This announcement was made by Malatji during a strategic partnership unveiling with Kelme Sports on July 14 at the Southern Sun Rosebank.

As part of its ambitious vision for the upcoming 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, the club revealed two major developments, the first being the training facility and the second being a partnership with Kelme.
Last season, Babina Noko showcased gear from Kelme, and the partnership announcement confirmed a three-year sponsorship deal with the leading sports apparel brand.
This agreement, presented by Malatji in the presence of a Chinese delegation, including Kelme's chairperson Ke Yongxiang, officially designates Kelme as the club's partner for the next three seasons.

Kaizer Chiefs: French-based Bafana star put on hold by Amakhosi

Bafana Bafana midfielder Lebogang Phiri has revealed that he held talks with Kaizer Chiefs before the pre-season break. The 30-year-old midfielder is currently with French Ligue 2 side Guingamp, but says he would be open to a move back to South Africa. Kaizer Chiefs already have several central midfielders on their roster, including Thabo Cele, who was signed from Europe in January. Although negotiations between Phiri and Kaizer Chiefs have slowed down, the Bafana star believes they can resume discussions and ultimately reach an agreement. 'Yes, Kaizer Chiefs did contact me and my representatives. We had small talks with Amakhosi, but I think since they were going to prepare for their pre-season in the Netherlands, the talks stalled a bit,' Phiri told Sunday World . 'But hopefully in the upcoming days or weeks, our talks will resume, and we will come up with something,' he added. 'Should something work out, I will be here, but if not, I will go elsewhere and keep pushing.' Chiefs have already lost Yusuf Maart and Edson Castillo last month. In the midfield, they might need a bit of experience should Thabo Cele get injured. Phiri spent all his playing career in Europe and might not be an instant success if he decides to move to the PSL. Another Bafana midfielder who Kaizer Chiefs looked at is Siphephelo Sithole. The move failed to materialise with Amakhosi having to settle for Siphesihle Ndlovu. It remains to be seen if the Glamour Boys can add more quality players before the Betway Premiership starts next month. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Chiefs news: Top-rated striker slipping away away, defender drama

Kaizer Chiefs' pursuit of Nigeria's Etiosa Ighodaro remains in muddy waters as the player continues to weigh up his options. 'There's been a lot of talk about Ighodaro joining Chiefs, but the reports suggesting he has signed are inaccurate,' an insider revealed. 'He is still assessing his options both locally and abroad. Nothing has been concluded. AmaKhosi head coach Nasreddine Nabi has been vocal about his transfer demands from the club. 'I wouldn't be honest if say that I'm gonna stay if the club doesn't allow me to get all the tools to succeed next season because they have promised, and myself, I have promised the fans that I want to build a successful team that will compete in every competition to win trophies,' Nabi told SuperSportafter winning the Nedbank Cup final, ending Kaizer Chiefs' ten-year trophy drought. 'That's the condition for me to stay [at Chiefs] because I don't feel that I want to go through what I went through this season.' Kaizer Chiefs have won one of their five pre-season fixtures, raising alarm bells from fans to club legends. The latter relates to Tsepo Masilela, who has been vocal about his displeasure in left-back Nkhanyiso Shinga. 'To be honest, when I look at Shinga, interesting player, but defensively, there's been question marks, in my opinion,' he said. 'Even the second goal (conceded against Twente), there's a couple of times (even) in the previous games, he got beaten in one-v-one situations.' 'Your primary job as a defender is to win those duels, to be on top of the winger – that's how you gain confidence. Listen, he's comfortable on the ball, that we can't argue.' 'But again, him inverting most of the time, I found it that it was dragging (Makabi) Lilepo to receive the ball too deep, more like a left-back. I couldn't understand what's the idea of him inverting that much.' Let us know by clicking on the comment tab below this article or by emailing info@ or sending a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Fans wearing Springbok jerseys back national team

Springbok fans gathered on Saturday afternoon at Die Kantoor Pub and Restaurant in Lynnwood to support their team against Georgia. As was expected, the Springboks crushed Georgia 55–10 in their international July campaign held at Bombela stadium. Chef Shane Martin from the restaurant said fans had a great time watching the match, enjoying food and drinks. Rugby supporters arrived early to get their seats before the start of the match. Edwin Magangane said singing the national anthem and wearing the Springbok jersey is his way to show support and encourage the Boks to play their best. He encouraged everyone to always support the national team by wearing the national team's jerseys. 'Watching the national team play at the restaurant is always fun, especially when we win and luckily, the Boks don't disappoint,' said Magangane. The fans were also celebrating the Springboks' successful stint in the season so far and many agreed the road ahead of the rugby championship looked bright. The Springboks' next match will be against Australia on August 16, followed by New Zealand on August 23. Fans are certain to flock to the big screens again to support their team.
