‘Will announce coalition in upcoming conference', says Seeman

VILLUPURAM: Naam Tamilar Katchi chief Seeman, speaking at the inauguration of a party functionary's hospital in Villupuram, accused both DMK and BJP of betraying Tamil Nadu's interests, and claimed that the parties are no different when it comes to bringing in corporate projects against people's welfare.
Responding to speculation on alliances, Seeman urged people to wait until the party's upcoming conference, where he would announce his coalition. 'We're the only independent force. BJP and DMK are two sides of the same coin. We are in alliance with the people,' he declared.
Seeman further questioned the growing influence of national parties in Tamil Nadu. He claimed that the DMK pretends to oppose the BJP, but enables RSS marches that didn't happen under former CM Jayalalitha's rule.
'If those in power (Dravidian parties) had served the people well, why would national parties be needed here? Why demand CBI probes when we have a sturdy police force,' he asked.
Seeman also condemned the alleged lack of Tamil texts in temples and exams, and slammed projects such as the Neyveli coal mining and methane extraction project, stating that they destroy native livelihoods.

NDA likely to commence consultations over its nominee for VP post after July 28

NEW DELHI: With the EC formally initiating the process of electing the next Vice President by appointing a Returning Officer, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is expected to commence consultations for its nominee for the key constitutional post after July 28. This move comes amid indications that the Opposition will also field a candidate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to speak in both Houses of Parliament after July 28 on Operation Sindoor. In the electoral college, which comprises members of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, the ruling BJP-led NDA holds a clear majority with nearly 425 members out of a total of 782 MPs. This makes its nominee, clear and strong to win the polls to this second-highest constitutional post of Vice President after the President of India. There is growing speculation that the Modi government may once again take a bold step to send a strong message in line with its mantra of women's empowerment by fielding a woman candidate. If this possibility materialises, it would mark a significant representation of nari-shakti, with women occupying both the posts of President and Vice President. In the days to come, the prospect of a woman serving as Army Chief may no longer remain a distant assumption. 'Remember, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, at a function in Bihar, expressed hope that one day a woman may be seen as the Chief of the Army,' remarked a senior BJP leader. Although no official briefing has been made by the BJP regarding the selection of a candidate, sources have indicated that the Vice Presidential candidate will be chosen from within the party, with strong links to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Given recent experiences, the BJP is unlikely to take the risk of selecting a candidate who could prove unpredictable, once in office. The party leadership is expected to begin serious discussions with NDA allies to reach a consensus on a suitable candidate after 29 July, following the Prime Minister's speech in Parliament. 'One thing is clear, no candidate who has defected to the BJP from other parties, especially Congress, would be considered for this post. The possibility is that our alliance may finally agree on any one of four serving governors who have been associated with the Sangh and are deeply attached with the party's ideology of keeping the Nation and its Constitution above everything,' remarked a very senior BJP leader on July 25 to TNIE. Among the prominent names currently being considered are Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur, Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Bihar Governor Md Arif Khan, and Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel.

BJP hits out at Akhilesh over mosque meeting, clerics object to Dimple Yadav's attire

Lucknow, July 25 (UNI) The controversy surrounding former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav's political meeting inside a mosque refuses to die down, as the BJP and clerics continue their attacks on the Samajwadi Party chief. On the other hand, Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, national president of the All-India Muslim Jamaat, condemned Dimple Yadav's conduct and attire during the meeting, alleging that it violated the sanctity of the mosque. He referred to her as a 'political Hindu woman' and claimed she failed to maintain the appropriate decorum expected within a mosque. 'A mosque is the house of God, and no political party meeting should take place there,' Razvi said. The gathering was reportedly arranged by Maulana Mohibullah Nadvi, the Imam of the mosque at Parliament Street in Delhi. Razvi also alleged that, along with Akhilesh Yadav, SP leaders such as Dharmendra Yadav, Zia Ur Rehman Barq, and several other Hindu individuals were present inside the mosque during the meeting. The presence of two women, he noted, was against Sharia principles. He demanded that Maulana Mohibullah seek forgiveness and apologize to the Muslim community for his actions, accusing him of turning a sacred space into a political platform. 'If he does not seek forgiveness, Muslim organizations will launch protests against him and appeal to the mosque committee to dismiss him from his position as Imam,' he added. The BJP also launched a sharp attack on the Samajwadi Party chief, saying that 'writing slogans on posters does not change one's deeds.' The criticism came in response to a poster displayed outside the SP headquarters, which claimed that Akhilesh Yadav refrains from divisive politics and avoids using religious sites like temples and mosques for political purposes. BJP spokesperson Manish Shukla said, 'Samajwadi Party's politics is deeply entrenched in religion. Akhilesh Yadav's attempts to mix politics with religion are well known. His wife, Dimple Yadav, accompanied him on one such visit, drawing criticism from several clerics.' Shukla said, 'During a meeting near the Parliament complex, Dimple Yadav was questioned by a cleric over her attire and behaviour inside the mosque. The cleric even demanded an apology. Had a Hindu priest made such remarks, SP's online supporters would have erupted in anger against the Hindu community. But since the criticism came from within their vote bank, there has been complete silence.' UNI XC-MBD AAB PRS

Kangana Ranaut says drugs coming to Himachal from Pakistan: ‘Kids opting for theft, breaking furniture...'

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has blamed Pakistan for the drug menace in Himachal Pradesh and called for serious action against it. She was reacting to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla's 'Udta Punjab' remark. Talking to the media on the sidelines of the Monsoon session of Parliament on Friday, the Mandi MP said, 'Drug coming to Himachal Pradesh from Pakistan via Punjab is affecting youth and families in the state...' The actor-turned-politician likened the drug situation in Himachal to that in Punjab and said, 'The situation of drugs in Himachal is so dire that if a strict action isn't initiated soon, the state will become like some of those Punjab villages which only have windows and females now.' Ranaut also called the Himachali kids very 'gullible, naive and simple,' and said that they are now 'opting for theft; they have sold their parents' jewellery, are stealing cars' for drugs. 'Parents come to us crying. (The kids) lock themselves in rooms, break furniture, scream, and cry for help. This (drugs) is worse than death for them,' she said. On Thursday, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla warned that if immediate action is not taken to eradicate drug menace, Himachal Pradesh would become "Udta Punjab" in the next five years. Shukla said that the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases have risen by 340 per cent from around 500 in 2102 to about 2200 in 2023, and expressed concern over the 'rising' menace of substance abuse in the state. Talking about his campaign against drugs, Shukla said, 'This is not just a campaign but a mission to protect our future generations and preserve the social fabric of our communities.' He also expressed his displeasure over the 'lack of government rehabilitation centres' in the state, and emphasised the urgent need for the state government to establish a new state-of-the-art de-addiction and rehabilitation centre.
