Seeman dragging people to Manusmriti age: Minister

Trichy: Milk and dairy development minister Mano Thangaraj has hit back at NTK coordinator Seeman for asking the govt whether toddy tapping is a shame. The minister said the question suggested that Seeman was dragging people to a 'clan-based occupation' based on Manusmriti. The minister was talking to reporters after distributing bank loans worth Rs 7.09 crore to members of the cooperative milk producers' federation in Trichy on Thursday. "Toddy is still toddy,' he said in response to Seeman's demand to lift the ban on toddy tapping. "Nobody said toddy tapping is shameful. We are following the ideology of social justice and equality. We want everybody to be educated. However, Seeman's tone indicates he is dragging people to the Manusmriti age of clan-based profession," Mano Thangaraj said. Education is a necessity, and people may do any work after completing their studies, he said, and alleged that Seeman was overstating the toddy ban. The minister said the federation members are receiving Rs3.11 crore as incentives they made from the profits. District collector V Saravanan and Srirangam MLA M Palaniyandi were also present.

Enact strong law against caste-based killings, says Seeman at toddy liberation conference

Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) coordinator Seeman on Wednesday called for the enactment of a stringent law to prevent caste-based killings in Tamil Nadu. He was speaking at the Kal Viduthalai Maanaadu (Toddy Liberation Conference) held at Pananthoppu in Sakthi Nagar, Samayapuram, here organised by the Tamil Nadu Palm Climber Protection Movement. Addressing the gathering Mr. Seeman criticised the government for banning toddy tapping, stating that toddy is a natural palm extract and not an intoxicant. 'This is not liquor, this is palm paal (palm nectar), a herbal extract,' he said, alleging that liquor lobbyists influenced the ban to protect Tasmac's profits. 'If toddy tapping is legalised, TASMAC revenues will drop. That is the real reason behind the ban,' he added. Toddy Liberation Movement coordinator S. Nallasamy and other leaders participated in the event.

‘Will announce coalition in upcoming conference', says Seeman

VILLUPURAM: Naam Tamilar Katchi chief Seeman, speaking at the inauguration of a party functionary's hospital in Villupuram, accused both DMK and BJP of betraying Tamil Nadu's interests, and claimed that the parties are no different when it comes to bringing in corporate projects against people's welfare. Responding to speculation on alliances, Seeman urged people to wait until the party's upcoming conference, where he would announce his coalition. 'We're the only independent force. BJP and DMK are two sides of the same coin. We are in alliance with the people,' he declared. Seeman further questioned the growing influence of national parties in Tamil Nadu. He claimed that the DMK pretends to oppose the BJP, but enables RSS marches that didn't happen under former CM Jayalalitha's rule. 'If those in power (Dravidian parties) had served the people well, why would national parties be needed here? Why demand CBI probes when we have a sturdy police force,' he asked. Seeman also condemned the alleged lack of Tamil texts in temples and exams, and slammed projects such as the Neyveli coal mining and methane extraction project, stating that they destroy native livelihoods.

NTK, TVK also reject AIADMK's invitation

Chennai: Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) have rejected an invitation extended by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami to join his alliance against the ruling DMK , days after Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Left parties turned down a similar proposal. Speaking to reporters in Villupuram, NTK chief Seeman rejected EPS' call for all anti-DMK parties to join hands, branding both DMK and AIADMK corrupt entities. "One corrupt party cannot be used to uproot another corrupt party. Fire cannot be doused with another fire; water is needed to put out the fire. We are the water that will douse corruption. We are working with the agenda of defeating both parties," Seeman said. TVK too turned down the proposal. TVK had posted a message on the party's official handle on Tuesday stating that party founder Vijay will be the 'people's favourite' chief ministerial candidate in the 2026 assembly election. "TVK will bring the much-needed change Tamil Nadu yearns for. We will create history by delivering a landslide victory in 2026 with Thalapathy Vijay as our CM candidate," the post read. TVK's propaganda and policy secretary K G Arunraj too echoed the statement that Vijay would be their chief ministerial candidate for the 2026 polls. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gold Is Surging in 2025 — Smart Traders Are Already In IC Markets Learn More Undo You Can Also Check: Chennai AQI | Weather in Chennai | Bank Holidays in Chennai | Public Holidays in Chennai The response from TVK came after EPS said in an interview that his invitation for electoral alliance with all parties opposing DMK applies to TVK as well. Incidentally Vijay and EPS hold different views on power sharing. While Vijay had favoured the idea of power sharing, EPS was firmly opposed to coalition govt. NTK and TVK turning down the appeal of EPS comes close on the heels of VCK and Left parties rejecting a similar request from the AIADMK general secretary. EPS had alleged DMK was humiliating its allies and questioned the Left parties as well as VCK for continuing in DMK front. VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan said the remark was a ploy to create confusion in DMK alliance. CPM and CPI leaders too hit out at EPS for making such an offer after having allied with BJP.

Dravidian parties do more optics, less work: Seeman on DMK, AIADMK

Trichy: Chief coordinator of NTK, Seeman, hit out at both the DMK and AIADMK on Wednesday, accusing them of indulging in 'optics' rather than service-orientated governance. Speaking to reporters outside the Trichy court after attending a hearing in a 2018 case involving a clash between NTK and MDMK cadre at the Trichy airport, Seeman alleged that the ruling DMK was no different from the BJP in its policies and approach to governance. "Dravidian parties only do optics. They have no understanding of service politics or action politics. While farmers and teachers are out on the streets protesting, the DMK govt claims it is reaching every household," Seeman said. He further accused the DMK of abusing power to conduct election campaigns and failing to offer power-sharing to its allies in the state govt. "They claim autonomy at the Centre, but in the state, it's just family rule," he said, mocking the party's internal structure. Seeman also took a jibe at AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS), saying that the latter is aligning himself with the BJP ideologically as the saffron party is expected to be in power at the Centre beyond 2026. "He's not doing this out of fear, but out of excessive courage," Seeman said. He also questioned the DMK's recent stance on not including political questions in TNPSC exams. "Isn't the question about the 'dawn journey' political?" he asked. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pernas e tornozelos inchados? There is evidence that he spoke disparagingly about the Thirukkural." When asked why he has toned down rhetoric on Eelam and LTTE, Seeman asserted, "I am the only one still talking about it. When I speak, they say I'm repeating myself." Earlier, judge Gopinath announced that the verdict in the airport clash case will be pronounced on July 19.
