Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai on Thursday, May 1, where he highlighted the vast potential of Indian content to fuel a new era of economic growth. The event drew film icons, content creators, and industry leaders from over 100 countries. Among the notable attendees was actress Raashii Khanna, who shared elegant snapshots of her appearance at the summit on Instagram.
Raashii Khanna wore a refined saree designed by the label Lajjoo C, radiating grace in a delicate palette of light green and peach. Her blouse, crafted in a soft green shade, featured a V-neckline and short sleeves embellished with detailed embroidery that echoed the intricate work along the saree's border. Draped in a classic style, the saree's peach-toned pallu flowed gracefully over her shoulder, enhancing the traditional appeal.
The grand event featured the presence of major film personalities including Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan and Karan Johar. WAVES promises a rich tapestry of insightful dialogue, a celebration of India's cultural influence as a soft power, and a spectacular display of creativity and art on the global stage.
The opening day of the summit was packed with breathtaking performances, beginning with a 30-member orchestra led by Academy Award-winning composer MM Keeravaani. The schedule also includes classical showcases by maestros Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Yella Venkateswara Rao and Ronu Majumdar; vibrant musical sets by the Tetseo Sisters, JHAALA, Shreya Ghoshal and a dynamic act by KING x Alan Walker.
A special theatrical performance by veteran actor Anupam Kher, along with cultural folk presentations like Maharashtra Ki Lokdhara, will bring regional traditions to life. To cap it off, musical virtuoso Shankar Mahadevan will present a spectacular tribute to the journey of Indian film music.

Bajwa, Sahney support Diljit Dosanjh amid controversy

Jun 30, 2025 08:22 AM IST Senior Congress leader and leader of Opposition in state assembly Partap Singh Bajwa has supported singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh amid recent calls by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees to revoke his Indian citizenship over casting of Pakistani actress Hania Amir in Sardaar Ji 3. 'I find FWICE's demand not only unreasonable but also completely unjustified,' said Bajwa. 'Diljit is a celebrated Indian artiste who has made all of us proud on the global stage,' he said, adding that artistic collaborations should not be politicised. Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney said questioning Diljit's patriotism was unjust. (HT File) Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney said questioning Diljit's patriotism was unjust. In a statement, Sahney said Dosanjh had clearly clarified that the movie was shot in February, well before the Pahalgam attack, during which even an India-Pakistan cricket match also took place. 'We must not confuse timelines or facts when judging intent,' he said. The MP lauded Dosanjh for his sensitivity to public sentiment, citing his decision not to release the film in India.

Bumrah leads T20WC anniversary bash in Birmingham; Pant teases Jadeja on '1-year' milestone, gets knockout response

One year on from the famous victory at the T20 World Cup final in Barbados, India has been reliving that incredible night and celebrating all across the world after ending a long and painful drought of no trophies. When Suryakumar Yadav completed that iconic catch on the long-off boundary and ensured India were once again ICC trophy winners, a generation of cricketers breathed easy for finally having secured silverware — and they were together again one year later, on June 29 2025, as key members from that winning team cut a pair of cakes to commemorate the moment while in Birmingham. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj cut the two cakes while their teammates watch and celebrate the one-year anniversary of the triumph.(BCCI X) In a video shared by the BCCI on social media, select members of India's touring party in England can be seen gathered in a restaurant in Birmingham, where the team prepares for the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Edgbaston. Before the serious stuff starts on July 2, however, this was a nice moment for key players to look back at where they were a year ago while sharing a celebration of the moment with each other. The Indian team honoured the moment with two different cakes, one reading 'Team India', the other reading 'Champions T20 WC 2024'. No player looked ready to be the one to take the responsibility and cut the cake, with the likes of Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj urging each other to be the one. 'Paaji, kaato na…' Ultimately, it was Jasprit Bumrah who stood up and took the responsibility — just like he did a year ago, bowling two crucial overs that turned the tide of a game that was heavily in South Africa's favour with the Proteas needing run-a-ball from the last five overs to win. Bumrah stepped forward to cut one cake, while Siraj did his duties for the other, after their younger battery-mate Arshdeep urged them by saying "Paaji, kaato na (cut it no.)" Pant also teased Ravindra Jadeja by reminding him they were also celebrating the one-year anniversary of his retirement from the T20 format, with the all-rounder having joined Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in calling it a day in the shortest format after that finals victory. Jadeja was sharp to retort, however, reminding his younger teammates that he was still around in the other two formats. The players then went on to feed each other bites of the cake in a really nice moment which encapsulated why this was such an important period of time: after years of coming close but not quite getting over the finish line, this Indian team had managed to get the albatross off its back by lifting the trophy. Whether this heartfelt team moment can be the base for India to bounce back after an opening loss in the English series remains to be seen.
