Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Jayanti on June 4th
This was stated by Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy at a preparatory meeting held on Tuesday. He said the celebration will be held on June 4 at Kalamandira from 11.30 a.m. and thousands of people are expected to take part in it.
The celebration will be marked by a procession and a slew of events, and all community members will take part in it. P. Shivaraju, Additional Deputy Commissioner, said this year's celebrations in Mysuru will be a State-level event as the Maharaja belonged to this region and made an immense contribution to its overall development.
The district administration will conduct the event in a manner so that the ideas and ideals of Nalwadi are imbibed by the public at large, he added.
The authorities said that the procession will commence from Venkataramanaswamy temple on the Palace premises and will conclude at Kalamandira, which is the venue for the stage function. The procession will comprise folk and cultural troupe while a portrait of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar will be taken in a procession on a silver chariot.
The mounted police and police band will be part of the procession to lend an air of solemnity to the procession, according to the authorities.
The procession route and the Kalamandira premises will be spruced up by the Mysuru City Corporation.
The attention of the district administration was also drawn to the low-key celebrations in 2024, as the model code of conduct was in place. Hence, it has been decided to make the event a grand affair.
The leaders of the Ursu community urged the authorities to celebrate Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar's Jayanti in all districts of the State, while children in schools should be educated about his contribution and progressive views. They also suggested organising essay competitions at district and State levels on the life and contributions of the Maharaja, who was described by Mahatma Gandhi as a Raja Rishi.

MGP flags concerns over footpath encroachments, delay in Kukkarhalli lake rejuvenation
The city-based NGO Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) has raised serious concerns about the growing footpath encroachments in the city and the delay in rejuvenation work at Kukkarhalli lake and Poornaiah canal. The civic group has called for a coordinated and transparent approach from the district administration, pointing to legal, administrative, and safety challenges. The recent fatal accident of a senior citizen who was run over by a KSRTC bus near Vivekananda Circle, has reignited the debate on pedestrian safety, with MGP questioning the ability of authorities to ensure unobstructed footpaths in the face of rising street vending. The MGP pointed out that the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, which allows licensed vendors to operate, and a more recent Supreme Court directive from May 2025, which directs governments to remove encroachments to uphold the right to safety under Article 21, seemed to be contradictory in nature. In a letter addressed to Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, MGP stated the legal contradiction between the central law and the Supreme Court order could hamper enforcement to clear footpath encroachment. Bhamy V. Shenoy founding working president of the MGP, and S. Shobana, working president of the NGO, raised apprehensions whether the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has the capacity to provide alternate vending locations to all 7,000 licensed vendors in the city. Mr. Shenoy and Ms. Shobana also wondered whether there is a system in place to verify the authenticity of vendor permits and how MCC plans to prevent corruption in issuing or overlooking licenses. It urged authorities to act against the many unlicensed vendors from footpath encroachment. In a bid to address the issue in an accountable manner, MGP has proposed the formation of a Pedestrian Safety Committee with representation from elected leaders, vendor associations, NGOs, police, urban planners, and MCC officials. The MGP said while pedestrian safety and removal of footpath encroachment was necessary, one could not overlook the economic imperatives of the vendors and hence mooted the idea of offering incentives to those who relocate to new areas. This was necessary given the difficulty of replicating foot traffic and business opportunities that some streets currently provide, said the MGP. The attention of Mr. Reddy was also drawn to Kukkarhalli lake rejuvenation project and the MGP underlined the imperatives of restoring the lake and the canal system by removing the encroachments obstructing the natural flow of water. Urging the Deputy Commissioner to expedite the tendering process, the MGP said there was sufficient local expertise with extensive knowledge of the lake and the feeder canal and it should be tapped while drawing the new DPR for the project.

Mysuru DC directs officials to ensure timely processing of e-khata application

The directive came during a meeting held at the DC's office on Tuesday to review civic and infrastructure issues in the Krishnaraja assembly constituency. MLA TS Srivatsa voiced serious concerns over the delays in issuing e-khatas, citing recent Lokayukta raids at zonal offices as a fallout of such inefficiencies. In response, officials provided updates. According to that, zone 1 has no pending e-khata files, while zone 2 has around 200 applications pending due to online portal issues, and zone 9 has approximately 150 files pending, which are expected to be cleared within 2 to 3 days. On infrastructure, the MLA demanded immediate completion of long-pending roadworks at Vijaya Bank Circle, Vivekananda Circle, and Siddaganga Seer Circle on Vishwa Manava Double Road in Kuvempu Nagar, stalled for over a year. The DC acknowledged delays, particularly at Siddaganga Seer Circle, where work halted over concerns regarding the statue's visibility. He instructed officials to consult local leaders, and if no objections arise, resume and complete the project without further delay. The MLA highlighted water scarcity in areas including Narayanshastri Road, Ittigegudu, Srirampura, BEML Layout, and Mahendra Layout, urging reallocation of resources. The DC added that of the additional 30 million litres per day (MLD) sourced from Kabini, 15 MLD should be allocated to the KR Constituency. MDA commissioner KR Rakshith informed that out of Rs 9.5 crore worth of development works in the constituency, three projects were completed, and one is in progress.
