Conspiracy To Defame CM Fadnavis: Uddhav Thackeray On Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad Slap Row
He advised Fadnavis to remain "alert" while claiming that such incidents were being "committed deliberately".
"He is not from my party. He is from the Shinde group. I believe a conspiracy is going on to defame the Chief Minister. All things are being done deliberately. Unke antenna on rakhne chahiye (He should remain alert). He (Eknath Shinde) wanted to become the chief minister but was not made, so he is waiting impatiently," Thackeray told reporters here.
His remarks came after Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad found himself in hot water for allegedly assaulting a "poor helpless" canteen worker. In a viral video, the Buldhana MLA can be seen punching a man in the face while the other people look on silently.
Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials took food samples from the Akashvani MLA canteen, where Gaikwad thrashed a canteen employee, alleging poor quality of food.
"Samples of paneer, Schezwan chutney, oil and toor dal have been taken. These will be sent to the lab and the report will come in 14 days, an FDA official said.
Issuing a clarification on the issue, Gaikwad earlier stated that his repeated pleas to the canteen staff to serve quality food fell on deaf ears.
"I have been coming to the Akashwani canteen for 30 years and staying here for 5.5 years. I have repeatedly requested that they serve good food. Eggs 15 days old, non-veg 15-20 days old, vegetables 2-4 days old. Nearly 5,000 to 10,000 people eat here, and everyone has the same complaint. Someone has a lizard in their food, and someone has a rat or a rope," alleged an angry Gaikwad.
He also recounted that he gave an order for food at 10 PM on Tuesday and complained to the staff about the quality of the food.
"I ordered food at 10 PM yesterday, and after having the first bite, I felt there was something wrong... After smelling it, I found it was stale food. I went down and asked the manager who made it. I made everyone smell the food, and all of them found it stale. I explained to them again that they should make clean and good food, eating poison-like food is a health hazard... If they still do not listen, then I have my own way of making them understand," Gaikwad added.
He further alleged that rodents are roaming in the kitchen, and action should be taken to address the problem.
"Every year, the government receives thousands of complaints, and I don't know why they are ignored. Why is it not being inquired about? Rats and dirt are present in the kitchen... This should be checked, but no one seems to care... I request an action on the same so that people's health is not played with," the Shiv Sena MLA said.
Following the incident, Shiv Sena UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Wednesday strongly criticised the ruling Mahayuti government in Maharashtra.

Opposition leader in legislative council Ambadas Danve slams state govt over ‘plan' to issue new liquor shop licenses in Maharashtra
Mumbai: Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra legislative council Ambadas Danve on Tuesday claimed that the state government was planning to issue 328 new liquor shop licences which would only benefit those who are close to the ruling alliance. "The government is pushing this decision in the name of increasing revenue. But the way the planning has been done, it appears that licences will be distributed to people close to MLAs of Mahayuti alliance," Danve told reporters at the legislature complex, where the monsoon session is underway. It would also lead to a rise in liquor consumption and prove harmful to society, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader said. "With more liquor shops, consumption will go up and it will destroy many families. This will damage the state's reputation," he said. Danve also recalled that when the government tried to take a similar decision in 1972, socialist leader Mrinal Gore had opposed it. Danve, meanwhile, also accused a Shiv Sena leader from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar of owning 12 liquor shops. "On the one hand, the government launches the Ladki Bahin scheme, and on the other hand, it is expanding liquor outlets. We will oppose this both in the House and on the streets," he said. Talking about the resumption of operations at the Akashwani MLA hostel canteen here, Danve questioned the administration's logic. "The caterer's licence had lapsed years ago, yet the same company continued to operate the canteen. Now it has resumed operating. What was the point of suspending it for a few days then?" he asked. After Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad slapped a canteen employee for serving 'stale food' last week, the Food and Drug Administration suspended the canteen's licence. On deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, who is also Shiv Sena president, reportedly reprimanding his party's MLAs and ministers for their behaviour bringing bad publicity to the party, Danve said, "These people are thick-skinned. You will see no change in their behaviour." He also questioned Shinde's role as then urban development minister when Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd won the contract for the Thane-Ghodbunder-Bhayander road and tunnel project. The contract was scrapped in May after the L&T, which had been disqualified, moved the Supreme Court.

Black oil attack on Sambhaji Brigade leader: BJP worker, aide arrested after invoking non-bailable sections
Pune BJP worker Deepak Kate and his aide were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly daubing black oil on the face of Pravin Gaikwad, the state president of Sambhaji Brigade, in Solapur. The two were produced in court and remanded in police custody for two days. The police arrested Kate, also the president of Shivdharma Foundation, and Bhavaneshwar Shirgire after invoking non-bailable sections 118 (2) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 352 (intentional insult with an intent to provoke breach of peace) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against them. Five others who have been booked in the case are yet to be arrested. They have been identified as Kiran Salunkhe, Bhaiyya Dhane, Bhavaneshwar Shirgire from Indapur and Krushna Kshirsagar, Akshay Chavan and Babu Bihari, of Baramati in Pune district. As per the First Information Report (FIR), Gaikwad was attacked when he came to Akkalkot city in Solapur district for attending a function to felicitate Janmejay Raje Bhosale on Sunday. 'As Gaikwad was walking towards the hall, all of a sudden, the activists of Shivdharma Foundation intercepted him, poured black oil on Gaikwad's head, blackened his face and also manhandled him,' the FIR stated. The Shivdharma Foundation had been opposing the name of the organisation 'Sambhaji Brigade', claiming that it made a singular reference of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the legendary king known for his sacrifices. The foundation demanded that Sambhaji Brigade be renamed 'Dharmaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Brigade'. The police had initially booked the accused under BNS sections 115(2), 189(2), 191(2), 190, 324(4), which are bailable, against the accused. All these sections being bailable, the police did not arrest the accused, but took preventive action against them as per the law. Sambhaji Bhosale, an office-bearer of Sambhaji Brigade, had filed a complaint against Kate and his six aides at the Akkalkot North police station. 'We recorded the statement of the complainant victim and based on it sections 118 (2), 352 of BNS were added in the case,' sub-division police officer (Akkalkot) Vilas Yamavar said. As these sections are non-bailable, the police arrested Kate and Shirpure and produced them before a court in Solapur. The court remanded the duo to police custody for two days for further investigation. The police said action would be taken against the other five accused. Gaikwad claimed the attack was a part of a conspiracy to kill him and compared the attackers with the killers of rationalist Dr Narendra Dabholkar, communist leader Govind Pansare, M M Kalburgi and journalist Gauri Lankesh.

Maharashtra orders probe into NGO over report highlighting poor state of Mumbai's public toilets
Shiv Sena MLA and Maharashtra Cabinet minister Uday Samant on Monday said the state government will investigate the 'motives' of the non-profit organisation Praja Foundation, which released a report in May highlighting the poor conditions of public and community toilets in Mumbai, The Indian Express reported. In its report, Praja Foundation had said that there is only one public toilet seat for every 752 men and 1,820 women residents of Mumbai. This is much below the guidelines under the Swachh Bharat Mission, which recommends that there should be at least one public toilet seat for every 100 to 400 men and 100 to 200 women. Based on data received through Right to Information applications, the non-profit also highlighted that there is only one community toilet seat for every 86 men and 81 women. A community toilet is a shared facility meant for a defined group of residents or an entire settlement. The Swachh Bharat Mission norms prescribe one toilet for 35 men and 25 women, respectively. On Monday, Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Surve, Bharatiya Janata Party's Raj Todsam and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Rohit Pawar raised questions in the Maharashtra Assembly based on the Praja Foundation's report. In response, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that Mumbai has one toilet seat for every 46 men and 38 women. Milind Mhaske, the chief executive officer of Praja Foundation, told Scroll on Tuesday that the organisation was yet to receive a formal request or communication from the government regarding the data mentioned during the Assembly session. 'Praja remains committed to collaborate with the government to improve quality of life across our cities,' added Mhaske. Samant had claimed on Monday that the Praja Foundation's report was 'not accurate'. 'This NGO has brought out a report on availability of toilets in Mumbai,' the minister was quoted as saying by The Indian Express. 'The data given in the report is not accurate. In such cases, it leads to the defamation of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.'
