"I will not apologise, have no regrets": Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad after assaulting canteen staff

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 9 (ANI): Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, who allegedly slapped a canteen worker in Mumbai, has refused to apologise and said that he has 'no regrets' for his actions, saying that the food in the canteen was akin to poison. 'I will not apologise. Whatever the CM and Deputy CM said is their duty. I respect their words, but they also said that there should be an inquiry into the hotel. I have no regrets. I was about to consume poison; others cannot understand this, so I have no regrets for what I did,' the Shiv Sena MLA told reporters here. Earlier today, a purported video of Gaikwad allegedly slapping a canteen worker went viral on social media. The Shiv Sena MLA from Buldhana accused the Akashwani canteen of serving bad quality food and said that the staff were not listening to his complaints. In response to the complaints of the MLA, the state's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the license of Ajanta Caterers, the manager of the Akashwani canteen. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials took food samples from the Akashvani MLA canteen. Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad thrashed a canteen employee here yesterday, alleging poor quality of food. 'Samples of paneer, Schezwan chutney, oil, and toor dal have been taken. These will be sent to the lab and the report will come in 14 days, an FDA official said. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday condemned the alleged assault incident involving Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, who was caught in a video slapping a canteen worker at the Akashvani MLA Guest House in Mumbai over poor food quality. Speaking in the State Legislative Council, Fadnavis stated that such behaviour is unacceptable and not honourable for anyone. CM emphasised that Gaikwad's actions as an MLA have tarnished the reputation of all legislators. He also highlighted the need for accountability among public representatives. (ANI)

Conspiracy To Defame CM Fadnavis: Uddhav Thackeray On Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad Slap Row

As the incidents of violence increase in Maharashtra amid the ongoing language controversy, Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday alleged a conspiracy meant to defame Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He advised Fadnavis to remain "alert" while claiming that such incidents were being "committed deliberately". "He is not from my party. He is from the Shinde group. I believe a conspiracy is going on to defame the Chief Minister. All things are being done deliberately. Unke antenna on rakhne chahiye (He should remain alert). He (Eknath Shinde) wanted to become the chief minister but was not made, so he is waiting impatiently," Thackeray told reporters here. His remarks came after Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad found himself in hot water for allegedly assaulting a "poor helpless" canteen worker. In a viral video, the Buldhana MLA can be seen punching a man in the face while the other people look on silently. Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials took food samples from the Akashvani MLA canteen, where Gaikwad thrashed a canteen employee, alleging poor quality of food. "Samples of paneer, Schezwan chutney, oil and toor dal have been taken. These will be sent to the lab and the report will come in 14 days, an FDA official said. Issuing a clarification on the issue, Gaikwad earlier stated that his repeated pleas to the canteen staff to serve quality food fell on deaf ears. "I have been coming to the Akashwani canteen for 30 years and staying here for 5.5 years. I have repeatedly requested that they serve good food. Eggs 15 days old, non-veg 15-20 days old, vegetables 2-4 days old. Nearly 5,000 to 10,000 people eat here, and everyone has the same complaint. Someone has a lizard in their food, and someone has a rat or a rope," alleged an angry Gaikwad. He also recounted that he gave an order for food at 10 PM on Tuesday and complained to the staff about the quality of the food. "I ordered food at 10 PM yesterday, and after having the first bite, I felt there was something wrong... After smelling it, I found it was stale food. I went down and asked the manager who made it. I made everyone smell the food, and all of them found it stale. I explained to them again that they should make clean and good food, eating poison-like food is a health hazard... If they still do not listen, then I have my own way of making them understand," Gaikwad added. He further alleged that rodents are roaming in the kitchen, and action should be taken to address the problem. "Every year, the government receives thousands of complaints, and I don't know why they are ignored. Why is it not being inquired about? Rats and dirt are present in the kitchen... This should be checked, but no one seems to care... I request an action on the same so that people's health is not played with," the Shiv Sena MLA said. Following the incident, Shiv Sena UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Wednesday strongly criticised the ruling Mahayuti government in Maharashtra.

Capital Foods, known for the popular Ching's Secret brand, generated a revenue of Rs 799 crore and a profit of Rs 119 crore, while Organic India reported a revenue of Rs 374 crore with a loss of Rs 1.93 crore. Following the integration of Capital Foods and Organic India, Tata Consumer Products Limited has streamlined operations and explored new market opportunities, particularly in the organic products sector with a focus on wellness portfolio expansion. Capital Food and Organic India brands, which were acquired by Tata Consumer Products Ltd (TCPL) a year ago, have reported a double-digit revenue growth in FY2024-25, according to the latest annual report of the company. "Both the brands "achieved combined sales of Rs 1,173 crore, with Capital Foods revenue at Rs 799 crore and Organic India revenue at Rs 374 crore," the Tata group's FMCG arm said in its report. Both delivered strong gross margins, supported by synergies that also drove EBITDA margin expansion year-on-year, it added. TCPL in January 2024 acquired Capital Foods, which owns popular Ching's Secret brand, and Fab India-backed Organic India for a combined enterprise value of Rs 7,000 crore. Capital Foods reported a profit of Rs 119 crore, while Organic India had a loss of Rs 1.93 crore for the financial year which ended on March 31, 2025. Capital Food's revenue for the financial year ended March 31, 2023, was Rs 705.5 crore and Organic India's revenue was Rs 324.4 crore. TCPL said the recent acquisition of Capital Foods and Organic India has further boosted its product portfolio. It has integrated logistics and warehousing for Capital Foods and Organic India to streamline operations and reduce costs. "With the integration complete and businesses stabilised during the year, we were able to capitalise on the synergy benefits and scale the businesses," it said. Capital Foods continues to build growth momentum with targeted innovation, market innovation, expansion into white spaces and strategic brand collaboration. Its operating margin witnessed growth despite higher investment behind brands including collaboration with PepsiCo India's Kurkure to create a breakthrough limited edition snack that combined its signature Schezwan flavours with Kurkure's iconic texture, this was combined with a high energy media and other marketing campaigns. While for Organic India, TCPL is exploring alternate channels also. "With growing consumer demand for organic products, Organic India can leverage this opportunity, through wellness portfolio expansion and strengthening the brand equity and consumer connect. We are strategically building future ready channels like Pharma and Food Services to drive long term growth," it said.
