Big Names at Risk: Barcelona's Preseason Squad Exclusions Revealed!
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick's made some tough decisions ahead of the club's preseason tour of Asia as several senior players are expected to miss out.
Asia Tour Plans Underway
Barca're set to travel to Japan & South Korea this week for series of friendlies in preparation for the 2025 /26 campaign which they hope will bring more silverware after last season's domestic treble: La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super cup.
Limited Spots , Big Decisions
According to Marca, Flick's working with 26 player limit meaning several names are likely to be excluded including players not in his plans or still recovering from injury.
Ter Stegen Could Miss Out
Top of the list's goalkeeper ter Stegen who's still struggling with back injury and may require another surgery putting his tour participation in serious doubt.
Other Players Facing the Axe
Oriol Romeu & Pau Victor are reportedly not part of Flick's vision with the club seeking loan or permanent exits this summer.
Andreas Christensen remains uncertain. While he wishes to stay, the board may opt to cash in potentially ruling him out of the trip.
Backup keeper Inaki Pena, alongside Dani Rodriguez & Toni Fernandez are also expected to be left out despite decent preseason showings.

'Normal to have to build your confidence'

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot says pre-season wins can "build confidence" for upcoming campaign. The Red Devils came out 2-1 winners over West Ham United in their opening game of the Premier League Summer Series in the United States on Saturday, with captain Bruno Fernandes netting twice. This preparation for the new campaign is the first time boss Ruben Amorim has had the chance to have a pre-season with the team after arriving in November. Speaking after the game at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Dalot said: "It's been good [having pre-season with Amorim]. We train a lot, we train hard. Today you saw also what kind of intensity we can bring. "I think we're still at the beginning. We have a lot more potential to show in that aspect, but I think for today it was good intensity and a good performance. "Last season was not good enough, we know that, and now we have to find a way to improve. I think we've made some good signings already. You saw already Matheus [Cunha], he can bring a lot to the team. "I like the mentality of us today, high pressing, a lot of intensity." After just 11 league wins and a 15th-place finish, 2024-25 was regarded as the club's worst campaign since the 1973-74 relegation season and Amorim and his players will know they need to do better this time around. "After a season like that, it's normal to have to build your confidence," Dalot added. "That's why I think a win like today is really important. I think with winning, you become more confident. You start to believe more in what you're doing. "[This win] was a good example of what we can show, and hopefully with this the group becomes even better."

Late Odegaard penalty gives Arsenal 3-2 win over Newcastle

Martin Odegaard scored the winner from the spot in the 84th minute as Arsenal beat Newcastle 3-2 in a pre-season friendly in Singapore on Sunday. Viktor Gyokeres, the Swedish international striker signed on Saturday from Sporting Lisbon, was introduced to the crowd of more than 38,700 before kickoff. He watched from the bench as his new club won an entertaining encounter in the Singapore heat. The 27-year-old could make his debut when Arsenal take on Tottenham in Hong Kong next Thursday in another friendly. "We are increasing the quality of the squad all the time, so we're super happy to have Viktor with us," said manager Mikel Arteta. "It has been a long journey to get him here." Newcastle, who were missing striker Alexander Isak as he considers his future, scored with their first attack in the sixth minute. New signing Anthony Elanga blasted the ball into the bottom corner after meeting a cross from Sandro Tonali. But Arsenal overcame a shaky start, regaining their rhythm and control of the game. Mikel Merino levelled in the 33rd minute from Kai Havertz's flick. Arsenal were ahead two minutes later when defender Alex Murphy fumbled the ball into his own net. The Magpies almost conceded a third after the restart but had keeper Nick Pope to thank after he stopped a bicycle kick by Bukayo Saka. Against the run of play, substitute Jacob Murphy levelled for Newcastle a minute later after his shot from outside the box sneaked past David Raya. With the match seemingly headed for a draw, it was 15-year-old Max Dowman's deep run into the box, where he was clipped by Joelinton, that proved to be the game-changer. Odegaard made no mistake from the spot to give Arsenal their second win in Singapore following a 1-0 victory over AC Milan. "Playing against Newcastle today wasn't just a friendly. It was a real test," said Arteta. "It gave us the chance to raise our competitiveness and physical level. There are still things we need to work on, like how we compete, understand our positions and show the willingness to win." str/pst

Attack of 'large proportions' disrupts streaming of Barcelona's preseason match in Japan

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — An attack of 'large proportions' disrupted the streaming of Barcelona's preseason match in Japan on the club's streaming platforms, the club said Sunday. Barcelona said 'various pages' attempted to disrupt the live feed of the team's 3-1 win at Vissel Kobe on Sunday. 'As a result of this avalanche of requests, the system engaged the pertinent security mechanisms which then affected the broadcast on the (club's) website and app,' Barcelona said in a statement. 'Straightaway, the decision was taken to offer the game free on the club's YouTube platform to guarantee the broadcast of the game.' Barcelona apologized 'for the inconvenience caused and will contact all those people affected.' Barcelona's trip for the Asia preseason tour was delayed because of an issue with a promoter. ___ AP soccer:
