(Video) Thai Hot Guys' Appearance In PJ This Weekend Draws Flak From Locals

Hype Malaysia2 days ago
After announcing plans to open a Thai restaurant in Malaysia, the viral Thai Hot Guys will be making an appearance in the Klang Valley later this week. Unfortunately, the news isn't so well-received.
Yesterday, local social media personality Caprice shared a video on his Instagram account, revealing that the four members of Thai Hot Guys would be making an appearance at Mattress Premium Outlet (MPO) in Petaling Jaya this weekend. The event, titled 'Thai Hunk Coming To MPO', is scheduled for 26th July 2025 (Saturday) and will include meet-and-greets with the viral influencers.
A quick check on MPO and the Thai Hot Guys members' social media pages confirmed the event. An announcement post also revealed that fans can win a chance to meet the four internet personalities. The event will be held at the MPO Showroom in Petaling Jaya from 11am to 5pm. While the meet-and-greet received interest from fans, it also drew flak from Malaysian netizens.
In his post about the event, Caprice tagged local authorities and the Immigration department, urging them to block the Thai Hot Guys from entering Malaysia and attending the event. The comments also argued that the event is disrespectful to the local culture, given the controversial content the Thai Hot Guys are known for. Others also questioned how MPO had received approval to hold the event.
As of writing, MPO hasn't responded to the backlash. However, it's worth noting that the Thai Hot Guys are likely only attending the event to promote the store and might not engage in their typical sexy content. The group also faced similar backlash after announcing plans to open a restaurant in Malaysia. However, owners Dee and Wow explained that the restaurant will not have the dancing concept as the group wants to respect Malaysian culture.
We hope MPO can clarify this event as soon as possible to avoid any more controversy. However, can an explanation change the public's perception? What are your thoughts on this?

QuickCheck: Was one of the characters in Captain Planet and the Planeteers inspired by a Malaysian?

Kids who grew up in the 80s will remember Captain Planet and the Planeteers. Each week, the titular group of diverse heroes would champion the environment and battle against villains who pollute the earth. In the show, Gaia, the spirit of the Earth, sends five magic rings to five chosen youths from around the world, known as the Planeteers. By combining the power of the magic rings, the Planeteers can summon Captain Planet when they need help the most. Is it true that one of the Planeteers was inspired by a Malaysian? Verdict: TRUE In a 2012 Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) post, one of the co-creators of the animated series, Barbara Pyle, confirmed that Gi, the Planeteer who has the power of water, was inspired by human rights advocate and environmental lawyer Chee Yoke Ling. Chee was also the executive director of the Third World Network, an independent non-profit international network of organisations and individuals involved in issues relating to development, developing countries and North-South affairs. While the show debuted in 1990, Che only found out that she was the inspiration for Gi, a decade later, during a chance encounter with Pyle on the streets of New York. Chee said in an interview that Pyle used to call her Gi because she could not pronounce the 'ch' sound. In addition to Chee, Pyle also said that another Planeteer, Linka, who has the power of wind, was loosely based on German Green Party co-founder Petra Kelly, while Planeteer Ma-Ti, who has the power of heart, was based on Paulinho Paiakan, chief of the Kayapó people and one of the best-known Indigenous defenders of the Amazon rainforest. While Captain Planet is a fictional character, you can contribute to making the planet greener and cleaner. Consider reducing the use of plastic bags and using tote bags instead, join a gotong-royong activity in the neighbourhood and make your home more climate-friendly. Remember, the power is yours! Now with 19 years' experience, he is Crowne Plaza Kuala Lumpur City Centre's chef de cuisine. 'I had applied for a job in a hotel's engineering department but there was no vacancy. 'But the hotel had an opening in its kitchen crew team, so I took it,' he recalled. Malabar Briyani Seven months later, when there was a vacancy in the engineering department, Vengadesen decided to stay in the kitchen. 'My paternal grandfather had a catering business and that might have influenced me,' he said. Vengadesen's forte is in pastries as well as Western and Indian dishes. 'Indian food is my speciality. 'I particularly enjoy Indian food from the Malabar region and Kerala state, which is not spicy but flavourful. 'I learned most of my Indian cooking from a chef from Kerala,' he said.
